My Sisters children live in Australia. We want to send them some British sweets/biscuits snacks to try that you cant get over there.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Kids are all under 10

As an Australian who moved to the UK, I was particularly impressed by Jaffa cakes

Fresh01 · 07/12/2020 21:40

Plain simple Dairy Milk and Galaxy chocolate. The chocolate you get there tastes different as they add something to stop it melting so easily.

You get lots of Haribos there but not so much things like Fruit pastilles. Or you didn’t, we have been back a while.

KittyWithStripes · 07/12/2020 22:00

Minstrels? That’s the only one I can really think of. Most sweets and chocolates pretty much similar between the two countries imho, it’s not like America where sweets are v different (in a bad way)

I've just sent a box of sweets .. these www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009VUAWI0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8 plus a kilo (!!) of sherbert pips to my DS1 who moved to Australia in February!

Cost more to send them than to buy them , mind!

Ozgirl75 · 07/12/2020 22:10

Don’t post them from the U.K., it costs a fortune. Better to look up one of the places over here that delivers, like treats from home, British Sweets and Treats etc. There isn’t really anything you can’t get here any more as even the supermarket does a range of British stuff now but British Sweets and Treats have quite a good range.

StillMedusa · 07/12/2020 22:23

Not sherbert pips tho Ozgirl75 !! I looked and looked!!!!!

BowlerHatPowerHat · 07/12/2020 22:24

Percy Pigs?

VaggieMight · 07/12/2020 22:28

Square crisps
Quavers
Their chocolate tastes different too

timtam23 · 07/12/2020 22:34

If you send chocolate it'll probably melt before it can be delivered...a UK friend sent me a Christmas present of a box of chocolates when I lived in Australia, it was a very hot summer there and the chocolates arrived in a very poor condition, I had to throw them away.
Are Haribo sweets available in Australia? Maybe some fizzy cola bottles, Tangfastics etc. Or some Swizzels sweets, like Love Hearts?

Rhynswynd · 07/12/2020 22:34

Main supermarkets have British food section with minstrels, double decker, fox peppermint, and a couple of others. Jaffa cakes are sold in Cole’s now.

I really miss monster munch and uk crisp flavours that just don’t get made here so Worcestershire sauce and prawn cocktail crisps.

I wouldn’t send any chocolate through the post it just ends up in a melted lump after sitting in the post van on 40• days.

Rhynswynd · 07/12/2020 22:35

Swizzles are available in the reject shop.

There really isn’t much we can’t get unless we can’t be bothered to look

MrsIronfoundersson · 07/12/2020 22:40

We rented a house in the Blue Mountains and brought Hula Hoops for the owner at his request!

Longdistance · 07/12/2020 22:40

I missed prawn cocktail crisps when I lived in Oz. It’s cheese, cheese with cheese crisps out there.
Uk Cadbury or galaxy, I’m sure they put something in the chocolate to stop it melting, and it ain’t pretty.

worcestersauce29 · 07/12/2020 23:16

I second Percy Pigs!

BritInAus · 08/12/2020 01:52

Percy Pigs
Plain Dairy Milk or Galaxy

SD1978 · 08/12/2020 02:21

If you can without them being squashed- a whole range of crisps!!!! There is bugger all choice here!

Takethereigns · 08/12/2020 02:31

We do miss the different crisps, like hula hoops/monster munch/squares and golden wonder.
There are websites like Uk food down under that sells this stuff, but at a premium price. The supermarkets have a small section of different foods and drink. If they live in an area full of Poms then they are more likely to have those types of foods in the supermarkets.

Ozgirl75 · 08/12/2020 04:32

I’ve never heard of sherbet pips! How have I missed them when I lived in the U.K. for 30 years. Not sherbet dip dabs? I know them.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 08/12/2020 04:39

As others have said, crisps, Percy pigs, and don't send chocolate. Although I can get crisps in the UK candy store near me but they are expensive ($3 a bag!). And I found a Percy pig copy once, but it wasn't as good as the real thing. Get your friends to send you some chicken salt and Violet crumbles in return!

Crustmasiscoming · 08/12/2020 04:43

Pretty much any kind of crisps from the UK are unavailable here. So if they like crisps then that could be good.

I think I've seen Monster Munch in a few speciality shops in Cairns and Perth, but that's pretty much it.

Crustmasiscoming · 08/12/2020 04:45

Oh right, I can see the crisp thing has been mentioned repeatedly. I did not RTFT. I will go and hang my head in shame...

Wombatstew · 08/12/2020 04:58

Came on to echo monster munch and hoola hoops. Just had a quick look on Asda online and I can’t see we have vimpto sweets, chupa chups melody lollies, sherbet fountain, dib dabs or wham bars. We have lots of Haribo but haven’t seen Rowntrees over here. Trio or club biscuits, Gariboldi and am not sure about Jammie Dodgers.

Takethereigns · 08/12/2020 05:28

We 100% have chupa chups you get them in Aldi coles and I got a massive tub in Costco. And I’ve seen a variant of those whistle lollies aswell.
BritInAus · 08/12/2020 05:44

Chupa Chupps are everywhere... they seem to be at every petrol station, swimming pool on the counter, Aldi checkouts.

OMG Trio biscuits - yum! Do they still exist in England? Aldi did mint and orange clubs fairly recently in Aus but don't think you can get them generally.

TheHoneyFactory · 08/12/2020 11:18

i just bought my DH the large chrissy novelty pack of jaffa cakes from our local supermarket so can defo get them here! honestly apart from monster munch and prawn cocktail (sorry but just no) crisps i think most things can be found here now days (weirdly alot from the reject shop/cheap as chips etc)

the only thing my DH misses/cant find is weet a bix(?) or vitabix (?) - basically the UK version of weetbix....
