What stocking present do you remember best from your childhood?

When I was 4 I got a Hello Kitty compact with a comb and mirror. I don't know what happened to it but I remember it so clearly and I was hugely proud of it. I still wonder what happened to it.

I've just looked it up and found the exact one

I do remember lots of other things but that is the one that has always stood out.

I always had my main presents downstairs, and then my stocking hung on my bedroom door, with one present and a tangerine in it that I was allowed to open before going downstairs.

This was always something like a DVD, book, colouring pad and pencils etc and I was actively encouraged to use those before waking my parents up. Quite clever really, as it got them a little more of a lie in.

I have very fond memories of being snuggled in my duvet, eating my tangerine and watching my new DVD!

Chocolate orange. Don't remember any toys.

@KaptainKaveman

I'm a bit older than you lot I think!

Best stocking fillers were a pair of bright pink clackers and wonderful kaleidoscope, hours of fun and magic.

Clackers were banned in my school as too many kids ended up with badly bruised knuckles 😂😂😂

@inappropriateraspberry

I also opened my bedroom door one year to find an A La Carte kitchen outside in the corridor! My mum must have set it all up overnight. I loved that thing.
I had this kitchen!! Xmas Smile

I had a Jacob's Ladder one year which I loved.
I also got a giant pen/biro that had 10 different colours in it, you turned the middle and then clicked on the colour you wanted. I thought that was amazing. this would have been early 70s

Chocolate coins and a woopie cushion

NeverTwerkNaked · 08/12/2020 16:58

Chocolate coins! We only ever got them in our stockings and rarely had any type of chocolate.

A kaleidoscope, I loved it, spent hours looking at it.

A penknife, made me feel grown up and trusted. (I was 12 I think)

A beautiful little jewellery box , probably second hand, that I still use today.

@165EatonPlace

I was once given a tube of peach smelling hand cream. The top of the tube was a small orange peach. I loved it. I felt so grown up. I was probably around 7 years old. Ive never forgotten it!
Sounds like Avon "Pretty Peach". I loved that.

Parma violet sweets in a selection box- first time I'd had them , they were harder and a lozenge shape, this was at a time when we didn't get many sweets.

I'll never forget the year my parents gave up on giving us a satsuma that went straight back into the fruit bowl - my sister got 4 passionfruit and I got a pomegranate Grin

EugenesAxe · 08/12/2020 18:00

@maudspellbody I think I love you a tiny bit for reminding me of that advert 😂

I usually have an amazing memory for things like this but I can't remember many presents I can differentiate as being stocking ones... probably the only and best one I can be sure of (other than the satsumas) was Now That's What I Call Music 2!

My best all time present was the Sindy cooker with its sound effects 😍

shrunkenhead · 08/12/2020 18:13

Miss Matey bublebath. It was the only time of the year we had it!

bunintheoven88 · 08/12/2020 18:14

A blue Baby-G watch when I was 11, it was my pride and joy Grin

The main present I remember as being specifically stocking was a little children's typewriter.

The main reason I remember it, was it was one of the few times that I had a present outside the stocking and it was much bigger than the normal ones we got-which tended to be along the lines of bubble bath/packet of smarties.

I found (much) later that the reason why I'd got it, was that dm had a friend who'd had a bonus (I think a win on the premium bonds) and she'd decided that this year Father Christmas would do one special present. Her dd had been asking for a typewriter for about 2 years so she bought this little yellow children's one.
Naturally she was very pleased to get this-until she commented to her dd that she'd always wanted a typewriter and her dd said "oh I don't want that any more I want xxx".
So that was how dm ended up with a typewriter she gave to me (in my stocking).

The only other one was me and dsis got 50p on a card telling us to go to the shop in the village and choose a mug each. I got one with a Mr Man on. I think dm probably just thought we'd be better to choose our own. But we didn't have our own money and 50p seemed like a fortune!

@JimmyJabs oh, yes, those mini kinder eggs seemed like the most delectable things in existence, and everyone I knew seemed to have some sort of lopsided plastic moneybox that had one held them.

I'll have to get some Schockobons in for Christmas this year, and test for myself.

A tamagotchi. I used to let people at school pay me a quid to kill it so it was quite the money spinner as well 😂
