@Spudlet - I'm so sorry. Job hunting is such a long, hard slog.

And we have new bath mixer taps - just had single taps before, one leaking so that's a huge improvement. Plumber said sink taps also need replacing but DH starting saying he would fix them even when plumber says they are not fixable Xmas Hmm But at least sink taps are currently only leaking a tiny bit whereas bath tap was much worse and 1/3 on.

DS is just going to test the toilet and new taps, 5 mins after guy left - I knew he wouldn't be able to resist for long.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 22/12/2020 19:23

We do have a downstairs bathroom but DS is like the cat and has a preferred toilet and sink.

Squirrel26 · 22/12/2020 19:33

I have a preferred toilet and sink too. I much prefer the upstairs toilet, although actually the downstairs sink is nicer.

Picked up duvet. Bought lots of exciting biscuits from Lidl.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/12/2020 19:48

DH has been locked out of his payed for zoom account and does not know why - who's he gonna call? Yes, me.

Nydj · 22/12/2020 19:50

We had waitrose veggie koftas for dinner with flatbreads - jamie Oliver’s easy flatbreads which are really easy to make and taste great.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 22/12/2020 19:54

DD just came and told me that the bath taps are not her preferred height of bath taps and they also have a shower attachment which is unnecessary in her view.

DS said why should we care about your taps views and went off singing. Now DD is singing and using the taps she doesn't approve of.

soddingkitten · 22/12/2020 20:03

I had a two hour nap on the sofa earlier. I’m feeling much more relaxed today.

Holothane · 22/12/2020 20:35

My quality of life has improved massively since having coil removed, no bad pain, also thrilled just brought two satin bomber jackets one silver one mint green for next summer, only 9 quid each instead of £30.

EggNogPegg · 22/12/2020 21:02

Sorry to hear about the job @Spudlet. Job hunting is crap.

I'm loving the feline photographs.

Boiler manufacturer rang us today to confirm our booking of a new boiler. They can't fit us in on Christmas Eve, but can fit us in at 8am tomorrow. The installer sent his guy over for a look today and he said 'why haven't you just turned the water on it off if you don't want it to drip'. We looked at him blankly. He then showed us a small switch inside, showed us which way to turn it and the water stopped. This is the THIRD engineer that has been out to see us. Clearly it didn't occur to the other two to show us that.
It's booked in just in time. The whole thing has packed up now, so we are without heating or hot water tonight.

I took the DC to the park over lunch time. It was a complete mud pit. Despite my suggestion that they might be warmer in trousers, the DC wore shorts and got completely filthy. DS1 went down to just a t-shirt five minutes in. So they showered (last time we used the hot water) when we got back, had lunch and then spent some time playing Minecraft. I went for a nap with EggyCat2.

Tonight DH and I watched Arthur Christmas, and the DC opted to watch Teen Titans in another room.

We did the food shopping today (and got everything for free as a group of lovely virtual friends had a whip round for us after DP was diagnosed with terminal cancer). We have finished the present shopping. Now we just need his blood tests to go ahead tomorrow so he can start chemo on Thursday to buy us some extra time, he has advanced bile duct cancer so he has no chance of long term survival. The phlebotomy department had tried to cancel his bloods but have re-instated them as chemo can't start without the tests.

Holothane · 22/12/2020 21:14

Bloody white at
So sorry to read this, delighted that people paid for your shopping hugs.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/12/2020 21:31

Holothane I am glad you are feeling better.
bloodywhitecat Glad the medics could be persuaded. I hope all goes as best as it can for DP and for you.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 22/12/2020 21:34

So sorry to read that Bloodywhitecat I hope the chemo goes as well as it can do.

Hol Glad things have improved.

EggNog That's great can get boiler fixed and have stopped leak for now.

DS is very cheerful, singing and TV on full volume. DD says its the new taps he's excited about. I've just ordered new sink ones.

Holothane · 22/12/2020 22:25

I’m so happy now it’s just so unbelievable my life now, with very little pain and a soft sheepskin pad for hips so I sleep much better at night, that was an early present from dh he told me to spend on it, a thick long seat pad perfect.

Therainisback · 22/12/2020 22:40

Finished work now until 4th January. Have written 3 lists:-
To Do
To buy
To bake/make

mathanxiety · 23/12/2020 05:14

Couldn't find lady fingers anywhere I shopped today, so I decided to bake some. I need them for tiramisu.

Most of the items I ordered have arrived, but DD3 is on her third attempt to get one thing she ordered as a gift for DD1 delivered. Someone stole the first package either from the front porch or in the USPS van, the second attempt reset the delivery address to her previous address before covid drove her university online, and now the replacement for that may be delivered as late as the 29th. We are laying bets on what might go wrong if we are forced to put it in a FedEx box and ship it ourselves.

Best wishes to bloodywhitecat and family Flowers

What good news, Holothane Smile

Gilead · 23/12/2020 07:21

Today I go for cataract removal!

soddingkitten · 23/12/2020 07:42

Hope it goes well, Gilead.

Nydj · 23/12/2020 08:24

@bloodywhitecat, I’m so sorry about your husband’s diagnosis and hope the treatment goes as well as it can.

@Gilead, all the best for the cataract procedure.

@Spudlet, I’m sorry about the job - I hope your dream job is round the corner and that you get it.

Sending positives vibes to everyone xx

PurplePlain · 23/12/2020 08:33

I dropped the car off for an MOT and service this morning. Now waiting for the phone call that starts "We need to a couple of extra things technical speak. It'll cost £ vast amounts."

Posted my dad's birthday card on the walk back from the garage.

TenCornMaidens · 23/12/2020 08:52

Went for a walk last night and then slept much better than usual. Suspect these are connected.

Making the pavlova for Christmas Day today Xmas Grin

Spudlet · 23/12/2020 09:46

@bloodywhitecat I’m so sorry about your DH. Sending you lots of love from this little corner of the internet.

@Holothane Great news that you’re feeling so much better, hope it continues!

@Gilead All the best for today! My DBro had bilateral cataracts removed as a child, and it was like magic. Good luck.

Thanks for all the condolences everyone - onwards and upwards. I’ve been a SAHM for 5 years so it was never going to be easy to get back to work, never mind during a pandemic and massive recession. It’s just a knock to the confidence, that’s all.

DH is still fine, I’m steeling myself to to go for a run in the pouring rain. I know it will be fine once I get going, it’s just the thought of it doesn’t appeal. Got all my kit on, I just need to get over it and go...!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/12/2020 10:16

Not to let things get too exciting: DD and I just sorted our sock drawers

Squirrel26 · 23/12/2020 10:16

Fingers crossed for everyone’s medical procedures.

The sun has just come out here. I’m not sure it’s going to last, according to Carol on the BBC weather earlier.
