I have bought some presents, pretty much at random as I panicked a bit in the farm shop. Grin They are all edible anyway so hopefully won’t be a total disaster.

Watching Agatha Raisin, which is a murder mystery about a poisoned quiche.

EggNogPegg · 20/12/2020 22:34

I left my phone in my bedroom from about 4pm today. I didn't miss it at all, which was nice and refreshing.

I got two small artificial trees down from the loft today so that the DC could have one each in their rooms. We havd lots of spare baubles so they used those to decorate them. I also found just enough additional lights in the loft, plus two of these HoHoHo lights so they have those in their rooms too. DH and I are co-chairs of the PTA, so these are things that we usually use for the Christmas Fayre that live in the loft the rest of the time. At least they're getting some use this year. The DC are very pleased with them.

We don't have enough stars or angels to go on top of their little trees so DS2 has topped his with a Santa hat and DS1 has used an elf one, complete with big ears.

@Spudlet, I've ventured into a couple of threads recently. It feels like a very hostile world out there right now.

I have watched very little TV recently, but did finish my somewhat schmaltzy book today. I never knew about the animal fat variant of the word, I too am a lifelong vegetarian.

MoonlightMedicine · 20/12/2020 22:54

I cleaned the guinea pigs out today. I've been putting it off but it never takes as long as you think. And they're so happy when it's done.

I learn something new almost every day on MN. Smile

Well done giving the DC some holiday cheer Egg

I finish the Netflix series on the Yorkshire Ripper last night. Oh my god, did the West Yorkshire police drop the ball. They interviewed Sutcliffe nine times but kept letting him go because he didn't have a Geordie accent. And in the end, they caught him almost by accident.

We just Zoomed with my lovely MIL and DH is making Mongolian chicken.

Late to the party but we have just signed up for Netflix to entertain us over the Christmas break and have started on The Crown. It's rather like watching it with a toddler as DH keeps saying "who's that?", "who's that?"

So that's our Christmas holiday sorted.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/12/2020 08:46

I finished my work year by closing my time recording. I ended up with 12,11 h plus in my account, which is good.

Spudlet · 21/12/2020 08:57

@EggNogPegg I’m staying here for the foreseeable [huddles in the corner]. Don’t go out there people!

DH has sniffed ddog again in the morning ritual and once again, his nose has been fully assaulted by every nuance of ddog’s unique personal aroma. And he also feels fine in every other respect. So far, he has covered five miles in total going around the garden with a podcast...!

DS is happy because his Starbucks Christmas cup is still ok to use (I picked up a drive through the other day and they very kindly gave me an extra cup for him because he loves the pattern on them). I will be taking DS and ddog to the woods later so I might get another drive through on the way home as a morale booster.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 21/12/2020 09:05

We had a roast turkey practise Christmas dinner last night, which might be just as well considering we are supposed to be collecting Christmas food on 24th and looking at BBC news a bit concerned about that. Got a bit worried when carrots and yorkshire tasted soapy then remembered had just brushed my teeth, phew.

It's the rabbit's 2nd birthday so we need to make him a veg cake.

Ordered DH's Christmas present so everything is ordered now and only his to get here.

Phone call with ed pscyh today for DS. He keeps coming to see me for lots of little chats, on about visit 111 already today but quite a lot are just hello and then he disappears as fast as he arrived. Xmas Grin

soddingkitten · 21/12/2020 09:26

I put too much booze in my trifle. I’ve made a non-jelly one this year so I didn’t hold back (my trifle jelly didn’t set one year because of the sherry). This one has sloshes of cranberry vodka, as well as a jar of prosecco and vodka-soaked summer berries in their boozy syrup. I told DH we shouldn’t drive after eating it and my misjudgement has scuppered my trifle for breakfast plans for the week. 😞

Sodding is getting soppier and more playful by the day with all of us home and our full attention. DS2 plays frisbee fetch with him using a Pringles lid. Sodding loves it and brings you the lid when he wants to play.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/12/2020 10:14

Again - unknown food. I just googled trifle, yum!

I have to report that out of six 1kg tin boxes of biscuits only 1/2 a box remains. I think I will have to bake again.

soddingkitten · 21/12/2020 10:20

Prok There are some fantastic recipes and suggestions on this thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4101335-TRIFLE-A-thread-about-trifle?pg=1

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/12/2020 10:36

@soddingkitten
I will have a look at this thread.

We just received an e-mail asking for our placet to have DMil vaccinated by a 'mobile vacc. squad'. Yay!!!

EggNogPegg · 21/12/2020 11:52

Oh I love trifle. It is so underrated. I don't like custard in any other form though.

Back to the doctors with DS1 this morning. His swollen has improved a little, but the antibiotics haven't really done much. Plus they were vile, so getting them in him was traumatic for everyone involved. Saw a different doctor who has prescribed a 'slightly less disgusting' course.

Boiler continue to leak at an alarming rate. DH now looking at just getting a new one installed before Christmas.

EggNogPegg · 21/12/2020 11:55

I keep looking at the clock as exactly this time next year, we will be on a plane. I'm like a child counting down the days again. Now we just need the flights to go live so that we can actually book them. The BA app is only showing up to the 10th of December so far.
Can you tell that I'm impatient?

Spudlet · 21/12/2020 12:01

@Prokupatuscrakedatus A mobile vaccination squad sounds so exciting! Like they’re going to crash through the window swinging on a rope, brandishing a loaded syringe Grin So pleased for you, it will be such a relief when the people we love who are vulnerable get sorted, won’t it?

soddingkitten · 21/12/2020 12:13

Prok - a trifle tip if you decide to give it a go. A Madeira-style sponge cake with some heft and structural integrity to it is best. You don’t want cakey mush in the bottom of a trifle, although fluffy, light sponge can work OK in a jelly-based trifle as the trifle holds it together.

soddingkitten · 21/12/2020 12:14

Jelly holds it together...

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 21/12/2020 12:21

Sorry to hear about the boiler EggNog Hope you can get that sorted out quickly.

We just had Ed Psych on the phone for an hour - DS wasn't impressed we were communicating with enemy forces sent by school and was doing a mini-stomp outside our room for about 4 walks past. He is quite small and light so its like a toddler stomp.

Hopefully we can make a rabbit cake and DS will love us again.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/12/2020 12:37

sodding
Yes, in English it does sound so andventurous. She is on the ground floor, the squad will aproach crawling stealthily through hedges via the aldi car park.

I have to annouce that one of our hot water bottles has joined our iso mat in the persuit of a good life. We can't find in anywhere.

EggNogPegg · 21/12/2020 13:10

DH has been on the Worcester website this morning. The earliest we could book one in would be the 29th. There is supposed to be an engineer coming to look at it at some point today, but we haven't heard from him yet. DH has said he will hold off the purchase until he's been today, or not turned up. We are using the extension renovation money to cover it, but are relieved that at least we have the contingency pot.

DH has just taken the DC to a National Trust site. I've stayed behind at his suggestion. Partly to do uni work and partly to be home for Boiler Man. The NT site is an hour away, so not possible for to get back at short notice.

I am now sat in a quiet house listening only to the drip drip of the boiler. I'll take it. The DC are slightly feral. They were grumbling about going for a walk. They will be fine when they get there and climb some trees.

sueelleker · 21/12/2020 13:13

Walked my dog round the block. His Mum's gone out with the dog-walker, but he had a small growth removed from his foot on Wednesday; and is restricted to short lead-walks until the stitches are removed on the 30th.

LittleTiger007 · 21/12/2020 13:24

@FortunesFave

My big dog and my small dog had a big argument over a bone today. It started when I gave both of them a bone each.

As usual, Big Dog waited a while, then stole Small Dog's bone and buried it....then carried on eating his own.

Small Dog has had enough and the moment Big Dog looked away, Small Dog took possession of Big Dog's bone.

Big Dog sulked for hours whilst Small Dog barked at him if he so much as glanced at the bone.

Finally, Big Dog tried to steal the bone back and Small Dog went nuts. They both snarled in each other's faces. Was worrying as Big Dog is BIG.

I threw a Croc at them.

Have you been spying on my house?! This exact thing is playing out here... little dog uses mean tactics at times... big dog cries like a baby. The pair of them are loony tunes when a bone is involved 🤦‍♀️
MissConductUS · 21/12/2020 14:58

Happy winter solstice, lovely people of the thread!

Goodness, it's been busy this morning. Welcome @LittleTiger007 and thanks for sharing your canine news. This thread can be a little cat-centric at times. My apologies to any other newcomers I've missed.

I have, of necessity, been on a thread about a Brit who supposedly gave birth in the US without insurance and is now trying to raise money via a gofundme page. Anytime the US healthcare system comes up on MN the egregious misinformation and vitriol arrive like water from a fire hose. So I have occasionally donned my fireproof PPE and waded in. It has been grim and I hope the thread winds down soon.

@EggNogPegg Sorry to hear about your boiler. We finally got our furnace fixed sorted about a week ago. I think you're wise to replace it if it's over ten years old. They're appliances, just like washing machines or freezers. I don't know why but people expect HVAC equipment to be immortal. I hope your DS1 gets a better dx this time. Pharmacists here have candy flavors for the liquid antibiotics. I looked back through the thread but couldn't find where his swelling is occurring.

I'm off today for the holidays starting at 1330, then have to collect my car from the dealer (DH and I carpooled today) and then off to the dentist. I have been feeling a little poorly this morning so I'm debating about rescheduling the dentist. It's nothing that concerning, just a bit tired and a minor headache. It might even be my blood pressure going to low.

Miss
I quite forgot, from tomorrow on the year will be going " 'nauszus " as my Dmil used to say.
Sun is already down.
