I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

My DS also loves penguins and feed them fish for his birthday last year, it was our last trip pre lockdown.

mathanxiety · 19/12/2020 04:10

Fingers crossed, @Spudlet.

Went out for my evening constitutional with DD3 and nearly lost my ears to a wicked east wind.

sueelleker · 19/12/2020 08:10
@EggNogPegg I too love your penguin.
DS and I watched a documentary on them earlier this week and DS asked if I'd like a pet penguin. I said I would but we wouldn't be able to keep one as the temperature (amongst other things) wouldn't be ideal for one. He then proceeded to do his best to work out how we could combat that and get two for the back garden, one to keep the other company. He also googled penguin colouring sheets and printed one off for each of us to colour in this evening. He's a sweetheart.
How about Galapagos penguins? They seem to do OK in wame climates. www.santacruzgalapagoscruise.com/equatorial-tropical-penguin/#:~:text=Penguins%20can%20be%20found%20in,miraculously%2C%20right%20on%20the%20equator.

EggNogPegg · 19/12/2020 09:38

Thank you for the penguin love. I love them too. The big one is DS2s advent calendar. DH bought that and the reindeer one for the DC from Aldi last year, not realising that I'd bought the bags. So now they have two. They live on the DC beds the rest of the year. The little penguin used to contain biscuits, but now my crochet hooks live in there.

I have left a bag of decorations in the loft. It contains the star for the top of the tree and my gingerbread man advent calendar (that I forget to get out for myself this year).

Later I will go to B&Q and beg for tree branch offcuts so that I can make my door wreath.

DS1 has his optician appointment in an hour. I will put his prescription in my bag now before I forget.

EggNogPegg · 19/12/2020 09:40

Oh, and DS2 had his Beaver Christmas party last night. I'm very taken with this reindeer that we made.

Weloveoptimus · 19/12/2020 09:58

I have put a Christmas bambi style duvet cover on my bed.
It's nice but very fussy and bright and it's taking me abit of time to get used to it as my previous duvet cover was quite plain.
I think I will persevere though a bit longer.

Nyjd your Dh reminded me of this -which I may have even got from this thread, but it bears repeating!

Hyper English?
That's an expression....

Squirrel26 · 19/12/2020 10:44

I like the Christmas duvet cover.
I also like the rest of the bedroom (what I can see of it). It looks very calming.

EggNogPegg · 19/12/2020 11:07

@MrsWooster That I'd brilliant, and so accurate!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 19/12/2020 11:16

@sueelleker sorry, wasn’t ignoring you! - I don’t get notifications.

Yes they did! I didn’t watch that series but I’ve looked it up. Tbh Paul’s æbleskiver weren’t quite right from the photos I’ve seen. 😆

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 19/12/2020 11:43

Picking up paint for DD's room and glue for her skirting boards, Christmas lego for DS (unhelpfully store cancelled it after 1 day but I reordered it and went through quickly for collection and was £1 cheaper) and printer ink.

Hyper English isn't a phrase I've heard before - a phrase that sounds nice is gobbledygook which is muddled up English as in she was speaking gobbledygook.

Spudlet · 19/12/2020 11:56

@MissConductUS Happy to contribute to the ongoing linguistic exchange Grin

No symptoms here. Yesterday the family plague rat reports that he kept feeling convinced he was coming down with something but we think it was psychosomatic as he is bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. I have been to Tesco and collected what appears to be the entire contents of the shop, so we will now at least have a Christmas dinner! Although I didn’t get anything for a special breakfast so I will have to go back out there anyway and apparently I also have to go and buy my own stocking fillers as of course DH can’t go himself 🤦‍♀️ Hey ho.

We got the link to DS’s nativity last night and it is the cutest thing I have ever seen. DS kept elbow his way to the microphone so all you could here was him singing with the entire rest of the two classes involved (socially distanced between bubbles and outdoors) looked like the backing singers; the angels got dizzy and crashed into each other; one of the other shepherds was waving his crook around like a broadsword (no injuries recorded); and then at the end DS lost it and was just seen running around in the background like a creature released into the wild. It was wonderful 🤣😍

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/12/2020 12:17

I have fixed new felt coasters under the chairs, emptied the dish washer, cleaned the bathroom and the windows (prior to fixing my straw stars to them). DD is cleaning the shower cubicle and the bathroom floor and Iwe found a place for the tree.

Yay.

@spudlet The nativity sounds lovely!

I love school nativity plays for this reason - they’re just so brilliantly lovely, every single time.

halfpasteleven · 19/12/2020 12:41

What a perfect nativity @HollyandIvyandallthingsYule
I didn't sleep well last night so I'm going for a lie down now

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 19/12/2020 12:45

@halfpasteleven yes, it is.🎄🎄🎄 But it’s @Spudlet’s DS’s nativity play - I was just quoting it. 🙂

Enjoy your sleep!

We”re having Christmas tea and pebernødder (spiced crispy biscuits). It’s a lovely daily ritual this week.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 19/12/2020 12:46

DS is giggling to himself, he came upstairs giggling to see me but said it was a secret what he was giggling about and he's gone back downstairs giggling away to himself. Think he's happy school's out to 11th Jan.

MissConductUS · 19/12/2020 12:50

What's the US equivalent? Gas? Or are there more colourful regional variations?

A very posh American might say "broke wind", but farting or passing gas would be much more common.

Welcome @MrsWooster and @Weloveoptimus and thank you for sharing your news! This thread is becoming so popular I expect it to appear in the Daily Fail very soon.

Egg, your tree and reindeer are very festive and charming! I don't know how all of you who are posting pictures manage to keep your homes so tidy. Smile

-12 here this morning but the roads are clearer, so I ran for 20 minutes. I could have gone longer but despite two glove layers my hands were getting too cold.

I'm off to do a quick grocery shop before the supermarket becomes a madhouse.

Christmas tree decisions:
DD wants red and orange baubles
I want straw stars and crafted ornaments
what is it to be?

Oh and we found the lights.

All of it!🎄🎄🎄

Although I’d go for red baubles and then use dried orange slices for the orange element - that should tie in nicely with your handcrafted ornaments and straw stars.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/12/2020 13:29

@HollyandIvyandallthingsYule

We'll try that and see how it goes - it is a small tree.

HelenaJustina · 19/12/2020 13:30

We’ve been on a walk to deliver our Church’s Christmas cards, and didn’t get caught in the rain. I’m thinking about doing the Christmas food shop on the 22nd.

@MrsWooster, DH is English born and bred and I’m not. It seems that he has been trying to impress me all these years when I thought he’d stopped trying! 🤣🤣
Champagneforeveryone · 19/12/2020 14:27

DS was still awake at 2am, chirruping away like a distressed cricket to his friends online. In essence I'm not overly bothered by this (it's not like he has anywhere to be going after all) but he was in his room all day and neglected several very basic, everyday jobs. On top of waking me up, when he knows my alarm goes off at 4.50am

In blatant and approximate retaliation I have sent him a list of jobs to keep him busy today, including cleaning ChampagneCat's litter tray
