I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

In a moment of insanity, I decided to go running. The roads are still covered in patches of snow and ice. About halfway through I almost slipped and fell, then decided that even for me this was madness. So I came home.

DS has what I think is his last two final exams this morning and I can tell that he's a bit stressed about them. The cats are annoyed that it's too cold to go out on the deck.

I have logged out - there's nothing more I am prepared to do or can do for the project. I doubt anybody official is working anyway.

So I inted to very slowly clean the place and put my decorations up.

@Holothane - All the best to you!!

Welp, Christmas is cancelled here... DH’s boss has tested positive so DH is now self-isolating. He’s just had the dreaded text to confirm it 🙈

Fortunately he has no symptoms at this time and I have a click and collect slot booked tomorrow so am frantically throwing things into the online basket and hoping I can still go and get it tomorrow. Otherwise I don’t know what I’m going to do about food.

Torn between wanting to cry and being slightly relieved, in a strange sort of way, that the decision has been made for us about seeing family over Christmas. But mostly I’m a bit gutted.

If DH is going to develop symptoms it will mostly likely be this weekend so fingers crossed everyone...!

MissConductUS · 18/12/2020 11:32

@Spudlet - that's awful, I'm so sorry this has come up for you, particularly so close to Christmas.

There are few supplements he should start taking if possible. Vitamin D, zinc, quercetin, and N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (often abbreviated as NAC). All should be available at any good-sized chemist. I take all of them prophylactically. I can post some links later when I have more time but they're all perfectly safe.

Let us know how he's doing.

Oh no @Spudlet! I hope that your DH stays symptom free.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/12/2020 11:45

@Spudlet - All the best!

MissConductUS · 18/12/2020 12:21

A role for quercetin in coronavirus disease 2019

I take 1000mg twice a day.

N-Acetylcysteine to Combat COVID-19: An Evidence Review

NAC is given to some covid patients in hospital by IV infusion. I take it orally, 600mg twice a day.

I recommend 5000iu per day of vitamin D and whatever zinc is given in a good multivitamin.

Argh spudlet , what bad timing. Hopefully your DH will remain symptom free.

I have put both rinse aid and salt in the dishwasher. It's a very old but dogged Bosch and requires constant tending and filling with stuff, but today it decided it needed both at the same time. Very pleasing.

DDogs have had lamb ribs for breakfast and I have mopped the kitchen floor afterwards. I will mop the sitting room later.

We have a takeaway from the local pub this evening. A double edged sword as their food isn't that amazing, but Covid has hit them hard and we want to support them as much as we can.

halfpasteleven · 18/12/2020 13:03

Fingers crossed for you all @Spudlet, rotten timing but hoping your DH stays symptom free. Was he in close contact with his boss?

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 18/12/2020 13:16

Hope you all manage to stay symptom free Spudlett

Children have just finished for Christmas, back Jan 11th now with a week of home ed first and possible mass covid tests by volunteers.

Cleaned bathroom had a bath and electrician came and changed two lights - he said the wiring is very old, DH pointed out the house is tudor (c 1550). Having mac and cheese and sweetcorn. Plumber cancelled.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 18/12/2020 13:17

I can hear DH talking to Silkiecat hello Silkiecat, best kitten in the world (she's 15 and Dh needed to be persuaded to get her).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/12/2020 13:34

DS's christmas present just arrived (phew).

BuddhaAtSea · 18/12/2020 13:37

I’m about to put my wellies on and take the dog for a walk. The same dog that had to have a bath after the morning walk, it was that bad. What are the chances of a second bath of the day, giving that it’s pouring with rain out there?

bearlyactive · 18/12/2020 13:43

I'm returning to this thread for the first time in a month or more because I am somewhere between days 9 and 6 of having COVID (exposure between Monday and Friday last week, symptoms started Sunday, tested Monday, came back positive Wednesday, do with that what you will).

My dull and unexciting news is that I've made cookies (quite a lot of them, so many that I've frozen some of the dough and am now calling them COVID Cookies), and plan to clear out some old cookbooks this afternoon, before a virtual pub quiz.

And my vaguely exciting news (for me) is that I've managed to get an Iceland delivery!!!!!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/12/2020 14:09

@bearlyactive
It seems that, if you've been making cooking, things have turned out not to be too terrible C-wise?
I've made several boxes of cookies but almost all have been eaten already.

Holothane · 18/12/2020 15:49

I’m home brilliant day loads of chat about anaesthesia and history, biopsies took, coil removed results in about four weeks, if my life is less painful after bleeding a few days it will have been worth it.

Spudlet · 18/12/2020 16:08

Thanks for all your good wishes everyone. Apparently when his boss was filling in the contact tracing thing DH didn’t fall into any of the close contact things but they agreed to put him down anyway as they were working in the same room without masks on (I could murder them both, tbh. Honestly!). So hoping he might be ok, but this weekend will be the crunch, I think - if he makes it through that he’ll probably be ok 🤞🤞

Champagneforeveryone · 18/12/2020 17:36

It's all a bit vague anyway spudlet. DS is in isolation Mk3, we've just received a notification to say that he doesnt actually need to isolate since his last contact was on Friday, and his guitar teacher became ill on Monday afternoon. Apparently there is a 48hr window?

Given we have nowhere to go it hardly matters really Grin

DDog1 went to the feed merchants earlier and did a spot of light shopping Grin

Taswama · 18/12/2020 19:04

I appear to have started a book club at work.

Spudlet · 18/12/2020 19:12

Ddog1 is beautiful, @Champagneforeveryone. How old is he/she?

DH cooked a curry for dinner this evening. He promises me that it smelt and tasted very good to him (it was very nice).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/12/2020 19:21

No isn't that typical?
I come off work, free till the fourth and I develop a cough. Aargh.

But I worte all my cards ( to the generation above me) and did some of the cleaning.

TenCornMaidens · 18/12/2020 19:22

Busy busy day. Arrived home to a salmon and mozzerella omelette made by my loving DH.

soddingkitten · 18/12/2020 19:22

When I opened the pack of chicken thighs I’d defrosted overnight for dinner they smelled grim. DH had a sniff and agreed. I had to defrost a pack of salmon fillets. It wasn’t the curry we had planned but it worked out OK.

Sodding kept going out in torrential rain this afternoon. DS2 towel dried him the first two times. After that his sympathy evaporated and he had to make do with washing himself dry. Hmm

DS1 and I had a running text exchange earlier in the day about why he hadn’t gone to pick up his prescription yet. It boiled down to having no clean pants in his drawer and DH using my work room (access to the airers/dry laundry) for meetings today. He was still in his pyjamas when I got home at 4pm. I got soaked doing the detour on my way home to collect his prescription. 🤔

IEat · 18/12/2020 19:24

I sent a friend a message at 8.45 this morning and they didn't reply. Now I've got the right hump with them. Wankers for not replying.

Spudlet · 18/12/2020 19:24

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Noooooo! Will you be able to get a test? Fingers crossed it’s just a winter sniffle!
