Pharmacy teams, it's that time of the year again..

Christmas is around the corner, the phones won't stop ringing, our patients are filled with Christmas joy no they are not , stress levels are on a new high and let's not forget the bastard mcs drugs keeping us on our toes!

Let's all gather around on this difficult month and vent.

Have your dispensary chocolates at hand and the wine on standby at home. If we only swear 5 times in a day it's an achievement and if the phone accidentally lands on the floor and you happen to be stomping your foot at that very spot it landed..oh well..oops!

AND REMEMBER!

It comes automatically

hello fellow pharmacy friend!!! Great username btw. Smile
Fucking Docusate is MCS, bastard thing.... and wouldn't you know it we have a million scripts with it on.

User258544 · 03/12/2020 22:08

You have just reminded to ask for a repeat prescription when I see my consultant next week, thanks Grin. My pharmacist is amazing.

Sceptre86 · 03/12/2020 22:15

Love this. We are down 40% of the workforce in our area due to staff sickness and isolating. At the busiest time of year... Still we will try to do our best. Hopefully people will be taking stock of their meds and ordering in plenty of time, there was a segment on this Morning to urge people to do so.

I went back to work two weeks ago after a month off with COVID. I felt awful leaving everyone in the lurch but it couldn't be helped. I still don't feel fully fit.

chuckyegg2 · 03/12/2020 22:22

“It comes automatically” Hmm Thanks for the laugh!!! Nice to know it’s not just us!

Esomeprazole tablets are the current holy grail at ours! Still getting the odd Ranitidine script too- do these GPs live under a rock?!

Biscuit tins from lovely customers = 1 so far, let’s hope the count keeps rising! Grin

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 03/12/2020 22:24

Ooh a pharmacy thread! Exciting!
Don't forget the bastard HRT. Every now and again we get a couple of patches or a small supply of something only for it to go again

muddledmidget · 03/12/2020 22:30

You know I'm having a bad day when I tell a customer Christmas has been on the calendar for over 2000 years so it really isn't my problem that they forgot to order their repeat in time!

BastardRanitidine · 03/12/2020 22:30

Thank you Xmas Grin

Ah yes docusate! The new mcs flavour of the week! It hasn't affected us as bad as that bastard gaviscon peppermint some weeks ago! We didn't realise how many people were on gaviscon until we had no gaviscon to give..

Can I throw in sodding SSPs and MYS flu submissions not working - Merry Bloody Christmas - if we make it that far...

You are welcome Xmas Grin

Make sure to let your pharmacist know, I think we all could use a boost of morale at the moment!

Perhaps we should rename Gaviscon as Gav-is-gone....Grin

Am now pondering whether I could get chocolates (or similar) delivered to my community pharmacy...

I’ve been shielding since March so my appreciation has mostly had to switch to Twitter; bar a few phonecalls about prescription issues & seeing a couple of people when they’ve delivered my medications, which really just lets me say “thank you” & quickly say I hope they’re ok...

What I don’t want to end up happening is a We Tried To Deliver... card situation, & just making work for them. Unlikely, given where they are, but The Donkey Of Destiny rejoices in tap-dancing on the skulls of the innocent...

Had someone kicking off the other day because prescription of 10 items plus (which we only had received that morning)wasn't ready and we didn't have all the stock, when questioned when said prescription was requested apparently it was requested three days ago and now they had ran out.... when advised that they should order a week early in the future just to be safe they kicked off some more. I hope you are right but I am filled with dread the closer we get to Christmas!

Can I ask how early should I be ordering my prescription? I usually get it at the end of the month. I know you can't tell me exact waiting times, but am I best panic putting it in now or will it only need a few extra days?

If I had a pound for every 'it comes automatically ' I hear I would be rich! Xmas Grin

And yes to the random ranitidine scripts, even the NHS website says it's not available and yet scripts still come through from time to time!
Same with the odd loestrin script even though it has been discontinued! Xmas Shock

Zero chocolates/biscuits on our end so far! I am hoping it's early days...

Oh God yes, the HRT madness! They come back in for a couple of days, raising hopes and dreams only to go back out again. At least the patients are used to it now. When they first went out the rage we had to face was unbelievable as if it was our fault!

Dear lovely pharmacist who saves my arse on a daily basis, thank you love this crazy mad GP!!

and ill hang my head in shame for the occasional ranitidine that still is on repeat :D

DaftAsABrushh · 03/12/2020 23:34

Grin I am that nightmare patient begging for contraband ranitidine and pints of extra-strength peppermint gaviscon (the aniseed stuff is just rank!). My local pharmacist is wonderful, thank you all for what you do Flowers

RoxytheRexy · 03/12/2020 23:48

I’m a nurse and I’m always thankful to Pharmacists. They were the absolute fonts of knowledge and saved me many times when I was in ITU. Now I’m in community I’m even more grateful to you all. Thank you to you all

It really depends on your surgery and how many days they normally take to process requests and the tablets you are on. Control drugs for example, I am not sure they are going to accept a very early request.

I would say have a look at your tablets, and count how many days you have left. Normally how many days before you ran out you order? If its 7 for example, i would add another 3-4 days. Our local surgery has said that they are willing to accept up to 15 days before patient is due requests because of Christmas and to give the pharmacy enough time to deal with the volume of work. It's possible other surgeries are doing the same.

Please keep in mind that if the surgery feels your repeat is too early they are going to reject it, so do enquire a couple of days after you put in if it has been accepted. (Patient access, if you use it to order your meds, should let you know though if your request has been approved)
