What can I do with crap Rosè wine?

My lovely neighbour dropped a bottle round for me as I've taken in about 30bajillion parcels for her over the last month.

I'm not averse to Rose, but usually only have it in the height of summer and prefer a less sweet one.

Anyways, poured myself a small glass and it's just so sweet. Tastes like pop.

I don't want to waste it - can I shove it in a recipe (I'd do this if I got a red or white I didn't like)? Any other ideas?

Just have it really cold with ice 😂

Avery7 · 03/12/2020 16:19

Mix it with something bitter or sour in a cocktail?

MsRinky · 03/12/2020 16:20

Add brandy, dried apricots, orange peel and a couple of star anise and leave it until Christmas. It's a Nigel Slater thing, so delicious. He uses some fancy sweet wine but I use cheap pink crap for mine every year and it still comes out amazing.

Add soda water and ice to make a spritzer

bigbirdbetty · 03/12/2020 16:20

Give it to me

orangenasturtium · 03/12/2020 16:22

If it's very sweet, you might not want to add it to a savoury recipe. You could use it in sweet recipes eg rose jelly with fruit, poached fruit, sorbet

Use it to make cocktails or a sangria style drink or punch. You can easily find recipes for rose sangria. I make one with strawberries.

Hmm....I'd be tempted to add a dry rose to risotto but this one is so so sweet.

Agree just add some soda and ice. Turn the heating up and pop a beach scene on the tv 😆

draughtycatflap · 03/12/2020 16:26

Give it your children or the servants.

Cheesewine · 03/12/2020 16:27

Shots

x2boys · 03/12/2020 16:35

Give it to your Dh/ partner , gran etc this is what I did when my friend thoughtfully dropped a bottle of wine for me ,from her holiday ,as much as I love wine it was way too sweet for me .

AlwaysLatte · 03/12/2020 16:40

Send it round to the woman on the other thread taking in bajillions of parcels so she can give it to her cheeky neighbour. Maybe if it's that awful they'll stop getting them delivered there!

movingonup20 · 03/12/2020 16:52

Nice in jelly

AriesTheRam · 03/12/2020 16:55

Drink it as fast as possible, holding your nose

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/12/2020 17:09

Yes, put it in jelly. I've also done that with cheap bucks fizz (a gift!) to make up an orange jelly and it was really good.
I'm just waiting for another bottle now ...

WantChewbaccaForGood · 03/12/2020 17:16

give half of it to bigbirdbetty & half to me :)
Is it echo falls?
(anecdote tangent dh was looking for echo falls in waitrose once & was told "we don't sell the cheap stuff" hehehehe)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/12/2020 17:19

It's "Grapevine"? Not sure if that's a decent brand or not. It's crapness is related wholly to it's unbearable sweetness rather than any brand snobbery.

Re-label it as ‘vaccine’ and chase the local conspiracy theorists around Asda with it.

GameSetMatch · 03/12/2020 17:38

Drain cleaner?

napody · 03/12/2020 17:44

Like the sound of this plan....worth a try anyway!

Poach pears in it with sugar, vanilla pod
& a stick of cinnamon. Once they’re done, add a bit of sugar and turn it into a syrup. Serve with creme fraiche.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 03/12/2020 18:18

Soda water, ice, down it 😬😬
