We might be craving tiles, but we'll leave the woodchip and artex alone unless we're feeling very brave...

Welcome into another thread covering the whole range of life and death, novelty vegetables, DIY, any other randomness and musings about a certain pandemic.

I had to explain to FIL that Primark sells children's clothes as well as adults and that children grow so said queues may be a result of that.

justasking111 · 03/12/2020 16:40

The queue at our Debenhams went around the building yesterday. Then folk moaning that it's not cheap enoughGrin

justasking111 · 03/12/2020 16:44

Watched a documentary on Lidl recently and its transformation in recent years from tatty to streamlined. They only carry 2000 lines far fewer than the big three so quicker to get round. When it's gone they sell something else. Primark is like that. Fewer lines easier to find what you went in for. Frequent change of stock. Far more of each size. Try buying for growing twins in Debenhams, it's not easy

So bored. Did my workout at lunchtime.

Would go for a walk now but it’s pissing down.

TheOrchidKiller · 03/12/2020 17:27

Posted several Christmas parcels today using the self-service tills in the post office.

The staff explained that all of the letter boxes inside the post office building were "sealed up because of covid." But they happliy came up close to take my parcels out of my arms. I'd obviously touched the parcels & the screen at the till which probably had all sorts of bacteria on it. The staff weren't wearing gloves.

I don't have a problem with handling post personally, but don't see the logic behind sealing up the post box if staff are then expected to man-handle items.
Hmm

I've been busy watching my patio grow today.

Prepped the ground Monday. Laid 2 courses of bricks for the retaining wall Wednesday and cutting and laying the brick topping today.

In the whole time of building this house, I think, on the garden, I have finally found someone I would happily recommend to anyone. A real craftsman. It's a patio retaining wall - each corner comprises 6 bricks, precision cut - looks fab.
Sometime next week I should finally have a patio

Cool!

AcornAutumn · 03/12/2020 18:47

I never thought I’d be this person

I’ve hit a wall

I find I need to go to a bar, restaurant or something

It’s not healthy that my only company is my 82 year old mum

I spoke with a friend who said if a waiter or someone who tested positive got in touch with a restaurant, by the time we heard about it, half the isolation period would be up.

It’s my feeling that there’ll be another lockdown after Xmas so maybe I should go now.

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2020 18:51

Honestly @AcornAutumn you’re never close enough for long enough with anyone in a restaurant to have to isolate. Go for it! Once you do you’ll feel loads better about it

AcornAutumn · 03/12/2020 18:59

But I don’t think T&T will see it that way.

I realised today that I've got a week to finish two uni assignments. I've done the research and structured the content, I just need to actually put it together and I've zero motivation. Im really struggling lately.....Please someone give me a kick in the ass.

Swift and firm boot applied to backside.

Get on with it!

ISaySteadyOn · 03/12/2020 19:23

Quit procrastinating, @LivinLaVidaLoki. You are a smart, capable woman and you've done loads of it already. You can do it! Waves pom poms, falls over

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2020 19:29

@AcornAutumn but it’s not just being in a place where someone tests positive, it’s contact for 15 mins less than two metres
@AcornAutumn but it’s not just being in a place where someone tests positive, it’s contact for 15 mins less than two metres
Thank you

I can’t read that but it’s reassuring

I heard that it could be less if 1m but beginning to think perhaps the scare stories have got to me

But certainly in a place where a couple of staff test positive, I think they’d ask everyone to isolate to be safe.

I never thought I’d take my chances but this is the worst time of the year for me normally

So I’m bored, stressed and this on top of usual SAD.

It’s like constantly waiting for an axe to fall

and the risk of more lockdown after Xmas is very high.

So I think I better go!

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2020 19:39

Just go! And they really won’t .

I’ve been out loads and loads in Scotland and England and it’s fine when you’re out. And genuinely, it’s not everyone on a place who has to isolate

TheOrchidKiller · 03/12/2020 19:44

@AcornAutumn
I understand your reservation (no pun intended),& back in the heady days of September/October when we could eat inside I was incredibly picky about where I tracked into.

No more quick cups of tea in chain cafes - it didn't feel worth getting caught for.

But a nice, leisurely dinner in a restaurant occasionally- that felt worth being forced to stop indoors.

I am desperately keen to eat out again & if we weren't stuck in a tier 3 I'd go for it. I had to eat an emergency sandwich outside in the rain today & it was pants.

I'm sorry you've hit the wall.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/12/2020 19:55

Anyone else's DC bouncing off walls? It's been pouring here and obviously no softplay. They are v loud and thumpy.

AcornAutumn · 03/12/2020 19:58

Thanks

The main issue is I’d have to get my sister to take over mum’s care if I got caught in a net

She lives quite far

Mum isn’t bothered at all but the point is, breaking the law means a huge fine. Her point is she could have strangers caring for her and they’d be higher risk. But the system of fines is not based on infection control or common sense.

It’s stopped raining so I’m going for a walk to escape the flat!

No, I’m bouncing off walls 😂

If it’s stopped where you are, you could take them for a walk. I’ve seen toddlers out at9pm last time I had to do this.

TheOrchidKiller · 03/12/2020 20:13

@AcornAutumn
I see your dilemma. It's unfair- you care for your mum but taking a break leaves you between a rock & a hard place.

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2020 20:16

Take your mum out with you. My old dad was very happy with some lunches out. It’s very safe.

MercyBooth · 03/12/2020 20:25

@AcornAutumn I understand your dilemma. But i think a meal out would do you good. Flowers

Thought of another T shirt idea. Barbara Windsor and Mark Drakeford on the front standing just inside a pub with Babs screaming "GET OUTTA MY PUB!!!!!

ISaySteadyOn · 03/12/2020 20:37

BogRollBOGOF · 03/12/2020 21:05

@AcornAutumn it sounds like going out will do you good.

We tried to do a lot in the summer, admittedly mainly outside while the going was good. It really helped to break the Groundhog Day tedium. As autumn drew in, we began to eat-in more and haven't had an issue. One pub in August invited us in as it began to go to twilight and there was no one indoors!

I'm probably projecting a bit as I'd love for pubs etc to be open, but it really does make a difference when you change the scenery.

As my friend said 10 years ago when very heavily pregnant and unable to get out on my own with the snow, "I'm picking you up to come to mine so you can look at a different set of walls" Grin
