Tested positive but need to get out, is this okay?

I’ve tested positive for Covid-19. I don’t know where I’ve got it from as I’ve followed the rules rigidly. I wonder if one of my children is an asymptotic carrier.

I feel quite rough but I’m not in bed. One thing I always do is a lot of exercise. I walk or run about 8 miles a day and without it my mental health deteriorates rapidly. I paced round and round the house and our tiny garden to do 10k steps today and the thought of trying to do that tomorrow is making me anxious.

If I set the alarm for 6am, do you think it is acceptable to go out for a walk? I live rurally so can take a head torch and go down lanes and tracks where I’m 99% sure I won’t encounter anyone and there is no need for me to touch anything, no gates etc. I will wear a face mask. DH says it is too risky in case I have an accident of some sort (I’m not sure how) or need aid. He thinks that would be putting others in danger. He does agree the chance of seeing anyone is very remote.

What would you do? I have to stay in don’t I?

Stay in! I have SAD and poor mental health when I don’t exercise and I don’t have a garden. I still managed to complete my 2 week quarantine after coming back from holiday in the summer, because it was the right thing to do. You don’t know who you will bump into and you’re literally infectious. Put on an exercise video indoors if you need to

Leafylife · 30/11/2020 12:47

I run for MH and had a similar experience when I had to self isolate a few weeks ago (I wasn't ill, just had been in contact with someone with Covid). Exercising outdoors has really helped stabilise my MH, so I was worried about losing that.

The thing I found helpful during SI was an hour a day in the garden doing any jobs I could find, especially if a bit strenuous - cleaning out the shed, cleaning all the garden tools and plant pots, jetwashing the patio, cleaning the windows, painting the fence, digging, weeding, etc. It's not a substitute for running, but I found it helpful as a short term thing. It worked better for me than trying to do indoor exercise.

For those saying go out early - round here 6am wouldn't be that early to avoid people.

Lots of workers are out walking their dogs at 6am so they can do it before work.

Lots of vulnerable people take their walks and exercise at that time too - to avoid meeting too many people.

It would need to be well before 6am in many places, especially on work days.

@yawnsvillex

I thought this virus was deadly?

How are people well enough to exercise? What am I missing?

Well clearly, just like lots of other illnesses, people are hit on different ways and to different extents.

We know that with Covid some can have no symptoms and not be ill at all yet others can be extremely unwell and end up in hospital.

Ilovecandlez · 30/11/2020 17:28

I mean it’s unlikely but if you have an accident when you’re out and someone needs to help then you’re putting them at risk

nipperbat · 30/11/2020 17:29

Stay in please!!! Can’t even believe you are thinking of going out

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2020 17:33

@nipperbat

Stay in please!!! Can’t even believe you are thinking of going out
Read the thread please!!! Can’t believe you posted without checking whether the op had decided not to go out
FluffySocks75 · 30/11/2020 17:36

Glad you have decided to stay in.

Think your point that you have been v careful and still caught it is exactly why you should stay in. Its v contagious. We dont know enough about the exact methods of contagious ness yet

purplebunny2012 · 30/11/2020 17:38

You must stay in. You have no idea if you'll pass someone and you'll likely be touching things along the way

Mummyofsquidge · 30/11/2020 17:39

Sorry but no. It's only 10 days you need to stay in. People ignoring this is why we are in this state.

roxanne119 · 30/11/2020 17:41

What if you collapse what if you fall if you need rescuing you have COVID no you can’t go out .

Ginfordinner · 30/11/2020 17:42

MrsBadcrumble123 · 30/11/2020 17:43

You need to stay in

pleasehelpwi3 · 30/11/2020 17:44

Don’t go out, it’s shit, but not as shit as accidentally passing it on.

Elfblossom · 30/11/2020 17:45

1, give your head a wobble
2, buy a treadmill
3, consider some therapy as it sounds like you're addicted to exercise and NO addiction is good.

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2020 17:45

FFS.

She is staying in.

You look like a bloody twit when you don’t read the thread and only post in response to the first post.

Harls1969 · 30/11/2020 17:47

I think you should stay in and rest. I totally understand your need to exercise but your immune system is fighting a particularly nasty virus. That said, you're an adult and it's up to you. Hope you're feeling better soon

FredtheCatsMum · 30/11/2020 17:47

It's hard, isn't it. But you do have to stay in your own place.

Perhaps try some other form of exercise that is more vigorous than walking - an online class or something.

Harls1969 · 30/11/2020 17:48

Oh I'm going to get hammered by the Mumsnet massive for not reading the whole bloody thread. Save your breath, I've got my sackcloth and ashes ready

timeforanewstart · 30/11/2020 17:49

No stay in you cannot guarantee you won't run past anyone and can't you get a fine if caught out without valid reason

Torvean32 · 30/11/2020 17:50

Stop trying to bend the rules. Do your 10 days. Do some exercise videos off you tube.

timeforanewstart · 30/11/2020 17:51

@Harls1969 yes i commented without reading all as well but on phone app you don't have a chpice to see all Op post that I can find anywhere?
Also should be a button where OP could maybe end the post as answered or similar

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2020 17:51

No you shouldn't go out. But I also really struggled with not being able to go out. Fortunately I only had to isolate for 5 days in the end. But had it been for the full 10, I was going to nip out after dark for a walk. The self isolation for me was far far worse than Covid. It's is really ready hard. Particularly if you are on your own. I don't think people who live with others realise just how hard it is.

Notreallyhappy · 30/11/2020 17:51

The clue is in the title. Self isolate... That's a no from me

PurpleDaisies · 30/11/2020 17:53

It takes quite a lot of arrogance to assume that in fourteen pages of posts...
A) Your post hadn’t already been posted over and over again
B) You don’t need to check whether the op has changed their mind

Posting is not compulsory.
