Tested positive but need to get out, is this okay?

Puffler · 28/11/2020 23:08

I’ve tested positive for Covid-19. I don’t know where I’ve got it from as I’ve followed the rules rigidly. I wonder if one of my children is an asymptotic carrier.

I feel quite rough but I’m not in bed. One thing I always do is a lot of exercise. I walk or run about 8 miles a day and without it my mental health deteriorates rapidly. I paced round and round the house and our tiny garden to do 10k steps today and the thought of trying to do that tomorrow is making me anxious.

If I set the alarm for 6am, do you think it is acceptable to go out for a walk? I live rurally so can take a head torch and go down lanes and tracks where I’m 99% sure I won’t encounter anyone and there is no need for me to touch anything, no gates etc. I will wear a face mask. DH says it is too risky in case I have an accident of some sort (I’m not sure how) or need aid. He thinks that would be putting others in danger. He does agree the chance of seeing anyone is very remote.

What would you do? I have to stay in don’t I?

Running with a virus that is known to be associated for some with fatal cardiac issues isn’t a great idea. Let your body physically recover and don’t push it.

Seriously? 🙄

Meowchickameowmeow · 29/11/2020 09:36

You know you need to stay in or you wouldn't be asking. Also if you feel rough you need to be resting.

As you’ve already said you know you can’t go out so stop trying to justify doing it.

If you can’t catch your breath you shouldn’t be exercising. Your body needs to rest and recovery. You should use the time to do some reading about exercise obsession and try and break that habit of having to hit your minimum 10k steps. It’s not a healthy mindset.

QueenOfLabradors · 29/11/2020 09:45

They call up the local volunteer squad and someone like me does a covid safe handover in the garden and walks the dog daily until the household is able to do it for themselves again.

QueenOfLabradors · 29/11/2020 09:46

Sorry that message makes no sense as somehow the quote it was meant to be attached to has vanished!

Notverygrownup · 29/11/2020 09:49

The OP did try to stop justifying it, about 6 pages ago! And she has already explained that a) she can't do Youtube videos, b) she is staying in and c) she feels much worse, so all of this is irrelevant now!

OP - credit to you for taking all of the advice and staying in. Hope that you turn a corner soon and feel better.

Pleasegotosleep01 · 29/11/2020 09:50

I work in sport and we are seeing that some people with Covid are really struggling long term if they continue to train through it. So while you might physically be able to exercise right now it might well impact your long term ability to exercise. I get it is very hard to not be active when you use it for mental health benefits but in a few weeks you'll really appreciate that you didn't cause yourself any long term harm.

cardswapping · 29/11/2020 09:53

Glad you are staying home and taking care of yourself.

A friend's teen had it and was doing well so they did (home-based) strenuous sport training (kid is athletic and in a team, did not want to lose fitness, etc).

Teen was horribly worse after the exercise. Not hospitalised but went from being okay at home (feels like a cold but I am fine) to being bed ridden at home (high fever, in bed, parents worried). Teen is fine now but I think it shows that your energy levels are finite and when your body is fighting a virus, it is not a good idea to redirect its energies away from the battle into exercise.

The law is you need to stay at hone, don’t be so bloody selfish and irresponsible

VioletCharlotte · 29/11/2020 09:59

I'm glad you're staying at home and taking care yourself. I think there would be minimal risk to anyone else to go out at that time, but it wouldn't do you any good. I do understand the need to be outside. I had flu a couple of years ago, after 5 days, I was feeling a bit better so went out for a dog walk. I was really poorly again as a result. Hope you feel better soon.

Derekhello · 29/11/2020 10:00

Stay in for f sake. Selfish.

peridito · 29/11/2020 10:03

I wish people would read the whole thread before firing off posts like LadyPenelope who should take her own advice .

OP asked for opinions = she took those telling her not to go out on board . She has posted 4 times saying that she will stay in .

She has explained why running outside is important to her .

For those who don’t understand, do you understand when people are afraid to leave their house, or huge crowds of people? For me, staying home is like throwing someone suffering with the opposite onto a tube at rush hour (pre-Covid!). For me seeing a vast space and very distant horizon calms me down.

Can't posters be kind ? Or at least RTF

yawnsvillex · 29/11/2020 10:03

I thought this virus was deadly?

How are people well enough to exercise? What am I missing?

anniegun · 29/11/2020 10:05

you need to stay in

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/11/2020 10:07

Stay at home. Don't go out. Not at all. You won't die of not exercising, but somebody who you infect with the Covid-19 you know you have very well could...

If you break the rules once, what's next? Just popping to the shop? Just nipping to the pub? Don't be selfish.

PurpleDaisies · 29/11/2020 10:09

Read the thread.
She’s staying home.

Retiremental · 29/11/2020 10:09

So if you fall, break your ankle, hit your head, dislocate your shoulder etc you’ll need help from ambulance and NHS staff. We’re already on our knees. We don’t need further exposure from infected cases.
You feel rough. You need to rest. Do a few online workouts if you feel well.

Ginfordinner · 29/11/2020 10:10

@yawnsvillex

I thought this virus was deadly?

You know damn well that there are huge variations in the severity of symptoms. From nil to death.

The old ‘if it’s so deadly blah blah’ line is so bloody tired.

Spend a day in ICU or a covid palliative care setting and you’ll gain a little understanding of how the deadly end of the spectrum is panning out.

Earslaps · 29/11/2020 10:13

My DS1 has adhd (so needs lots of activity!) is self isolating due to close contact. We bought the Nintendo ring fit game so he can get some exercise indoors. He's insistent on following the rules, he wouldn't even come out in the car with me but not getting out.

Figgygal · 29/11/2020 10:14

I’m glad you’ve decided not to you know it’s the right thing to do

and anyway running with a respiratory condition which can change how it’s affecting you from one day to the next according to a lot of people hardly seems the best idea

Crazycatlady83 · 29/11/2020 10:17

Cannot for the life of me think why or how this virus is still spreading ........

Oh no wait .......

AnotherNameForChristmas · 29/11/2020 10:17

Legally, no.
In practice, if you are quite sure you will encounter nobody and touch nothing used by others (eg gates etc), I don't see a problem.
