Anyone want to join me in losing 10 stone?

So today I got accepted for ivf. Put on the waiting list and been told it's likely to be 2022. That's fine! But in that time I need to get my bmi to 25 and under. It's currently 52, judge away I know I've mainly done this to myself. Eating my feelings, steroids for my Crohns and mirtazapine haven't helped, but it's mostly me. I'm in hospital until Wednesday because of a molar pregnancy but on Thursday evening I've signed up for an exercise shred, 4 x classes a week and a calorie goal to stick to.

I can do this. I HAVE TO DO THIS.

So if you also have weight to lose or just want to watch a fatty transform her life in 18 months join in! There is no judgement here.

Today's weight 20 stone 4 pounds (I know because I was weighed for my treatment and I cried but it's over now. Good bye that weight, I will never see you again)

I will also be trying to walk 10k steps a day and god help me if I don't do it at work when I'm back there the dog isn't going to know to what's hit her!

I'm also going to try and practice intuitive/ mindful eating.. I'm getting used to it in hospital as the food is shit but also I'm using the calm app for my emotions and I'm trying really hard to deal all with all the shit that's going on in my head and not eat away my feelings.

I'll be using this as a blog/ diary if no one joins me so don't feel like you have to join in :) but if you want a safe space to talk about wanting to weigh less or you're thinking about doing it but don't know where to start or you just want to chat about how shit it is to be addicted to food/ have learnt to use food as a coping mechanism then welcome :)

But there is no body shaming here, no fat shaming, no thin shaming, everyone is different let's do this Thanks

I’d like to join if I may. I have 8/9 stone to lose. I managed to lose 4 to get my bmi down enough for ivf, then we decided against it and adopted (3 times as it turned out) and my weight has just kept going up over the years. I’m going to count calories and try to up my exercise where I can but unfortunately my job involves sitting on my bum for 8 hours.

FatGirlShrinking · 28/11/2020 16:10

Can I hop on with you, I started a few years ago at 18st 3, managed to lose a few stone then dropped off the wagon.

Weighed at the beginning of August and I was 16st 9lb so I went low carb and started tracking everything I ate in MyFitnessPal.

Once I got past the first few days the carb craving and hunger abated and I was able to add a little carbs stuff back in, in moderation. Since 1st August I've lost 3st 1lb, have another 2st to lose to hit a healthy weight and another stone on top of that to reach the 'ideal' weight for my height. So I'm about half way to where I want to be.

In terms of exercise I like the Our Parks Couch to fitness programme, it's a free programme with 3x30 minute workouts a week that get progressively harder week on week. They show adaptations if you can't do the full move and you can repeat weeks until you are ready to move on. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzyGqy4hi5yAr4wQImo5HgwZIZ58PVyY-

My top tips so far:

  • use veg to bulk out your meals so that you don't feel hungry. I like adding greenbeans, asparagus, mushrooms, baby corn, brocolli, sugar snap peas or mangetout to lunch and dinner. You can have huge quantities for very few calories. Roasted greenbeans are great as an alternative to chips, or just steam up a big bowl of veg for lunch in 3 mins (microwave) and then add a tsp of real butter, seasoning and some sandwich meat for a warm salad.
  • drink lots and lots of water
  • get options hot chocolate for when you're desperate for a chocolate treat

Join weight watchers. Great online support and fabulous community as well. Felt so happy when I joined them and everyone so kind. Double whammy with MN too for support.

Good luck OP and everyone else! I'm on a slightly different journey as I had weight loss surgery (privately) 5 weeks ago and over 2 stone off already.

My GP was lovely when I talked about it with him, but if you are thinking of having it done privately you self-refer anyway.

My fitness pal is brilliant I wasn't keen at first but I love it now so easy to use - I keep it to 1000 cals a day which is actually very easy and often i only have 700-800 cals because I feel so full! My priority is having enough protein as essentially I'm on a low carb diet but without any effort as I no longer feel hungry, which is amazing!

Op it might be worth having some counselling to help you deal with your food demons. I saw (via zoom) a fantastic psychotherapist over the summer to get my head fixed before I had surgery, and it helped sooo much.

@2000lightyearsaway123 look up Lucy Wyndham Read on YouTube, she has loads of short beginners workouts, some you can do sitting down

PurpleMustang · 28/11/2020 16:50

Congratulations on the IVF! I need a huge boot up the backside. Since January have lost about 3 stone but still need to lose another 7 - 8 yet. Am thinking of doing something like Body Boss. Like the idea that you have to commit to it almost every day and it is a 12 week plan. There is fb pages for support too. Also thinking of buying a nice dress, not necessarily expensive but something I would love to wear to motivate me. Has anyone bought a dress as motivation? Thinking I will be happy to buy a size 12 and be able to look good in it

TurquoiseDragon · 28/11/2020 17:01

I started off losing weight by joining Noom. But it's pricey, and I've found MyFitnessPal can help with the logging for free.

I have found logging my food, and logging my weight to be really helpful in a way that WW and SW weren't when I tried them years ago. I've lots a stone so far, but at 17 stone I have some way to go. But I think my mindset is in the right place, and my food choices are much healthier than before.

So, wishing you the best, OP, and I'll be happy to join you.

Ingvermama · 28/11/2020 17:04

I am wishing you so much good luck and strength to do this, 10 stone is a lot, I'm very small and would t exist if I lost 10 stone! But you can do this and it's going to be worth it for your long term health.

Very best of luck. Hope you get everything you're wishing for. xx

andthentherewere · 28/11/2020 19:28

I am in! I have crohns too and put on a load because of steroids and emeritus al eating. I've got 8 stone to lose so would love some company on the weight loss journey. Good luck! X

andthentherewere · 28/11/2020 19:31

That was meant to say emotional eating, not sure what happened with that typo!

squiddybear · 28/11/2020 19:35

Hi OP may I join you. Looking to loose about 4 stone to start with. Hope it's ok to come on in!

theThreeofWeevils · 28/11/2020 19:48

Lots of advice here.
Two things I found useful when trying to lose a significant (3st) amount of weight were developing a massive green tea habit, which just became a comforting thing, and homemade vegetable soups. Without bread on the side - just have more soup later if still hungry. Neither of these is a magic wand, of course - just saying they helped me.
Wishing you luck, OP Flowers

MadisonErin · 28/11/2020 19:50

I've lost 57lbs this year. You can do it! Take it one step at a time. Focus on losing 7lbs at a time and don't beat yourself up if you have a bad day.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 28/11/2020 19:53

Lots of luck, OP. I'm 7 stone down and have kept it off so wanted to share a few things in case it helps.

Firstly PLEASE don't jump into 4 exercise classes a week. I know how tempting it is when you're desperate to get going but not only will you make yourself hungry and knackered (so you'll eat more), you do unfortunately risk a nasty injury if you are 10 stone overweight. However much you're raring to go (and that's great), start with just walking. Get used to doing 10k steps a day, make it more challenging by carrying weights or doing hills and upping your pace as you get fitter, get swimming and then maybe cycling but just take good care. Your joints are under strain as things are and honestly, if you get a bad knee or back injury right now you do just risk feeling shit and gaining more weight. I've seen it happen. Easy does it and you can build up to more intense workouts over the months. It'll go quicker than you think and people are right to say exercise is actually a tiny part of weightloss. The fitness group My Peak Challenge is lovely as there are lots of women on it trying to get fitter and stronger and you can build up slowly with the workouts and adapt them to suit you.

With my diet I did a low fat, calorie controlled diet at first. It made me feel shit, I was hungry constantly and honestly, counting calories is miserable long term. Plus it's 100% not necessary. I am living proof. My life and my health changed when I did a Whole30. All the information is available for free online but there is an amazing book called It Starts with Food if you want to know more. It reset everything for me.

I started eating healthy fats because of it and for the first time in my overweight life stopped feeling hungry all the time. I was full after my meals because fat naturally regulates your appetite. You can talk about comfort eating but I genuinely believe that you get into a cycle of doing that because of hormone disregulation and HUNGER from eating too little. You have to focus on good quality nutrition over calories and you will then naturally be satisfied with less (but Brain over Binge is good for the last bits of your emotional eating that is left over.) I never look at calories, I do spend time considering how nutritional the food I'm eating is though. And it changes your tastes though. I used to eat so much junk and honestly it now tastes pretty revolting to me. That happened with no effort as I followed the Whole 30 and it does for lots of others.

Have a look at some Diet Doctor videos on YouTube and Dr Jason Fung for lots more useful info. They're amazing and show you why losing weight is about your hormones more than calories in/calories out. I couldn't have kept my weight off without their knowledge. I eat really tasty, healthy food, I'm genuinely hardly ever hunger these days and my health has improved so much for eating the right things. You can absolutely do this just put yourself in the best position to do in a sustainable way and be careful.

Doodlebug5 · 28/11/2020 19:54

Me me me.
I started out at 24stone 8lb

However i am not weighing myself. I am eating healthily and exercising 3 days a week. I get too obsessed with numbers and then feel deflated with not losing too much and fall off the wagon so if i dont know what they are i cant feel unhappy.

@2000lightyearsaway123
I have started walk with leslie on yootube. It is essentially walking only. And if you cant do something then i just walk. Ive found it ok at 24 stone. Just wear trainers :)

TheUnexpectedPickle · 28/11/2020 19:59

I'm in! Have about 6 stone to shift. I'm a size 16/18 but short.

I love bread and wine. But luckily u also love salad!

SummerHouse · 28/11/2020 19:59

I read your post OP and just thought i believe you.

You have this in the bag. Good luck lady!

elliejjtiny · 28/11/2020 20:00

Congratulations on being accepted for ivf OP. I'd like to join in too. I lost 2 stone at the beginning of the year going from 22st to 20st. I've stalled since then though and I eat way too much bread and malteasers. I'm managing to do 10,000 steps most days but find it really hard.

Tambourinetunes · 28/11/2020 20:04

Good luck! Have you thought about getting a personal trainer? I agree with the PP who said don’t suddenly start 4 classes a week, focus on your steps and moving and keep going. A personal trainer would be able to advise on daily calories for you and get you moving in a way that suits you. I write this as someone who has lost several stone with a PT this year. I didn’t think it was for me but it has been amazing to have my own cheerleader each week encouraging me, identifying obstacles and walking alongside me, advising me and sharing in the losses. Above all be kind to yourself. Make sure you have good trainers and plan rewards for each 7lb lost, some of mine have been practical, sports bras, trainer etc.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/11/2020 20:19

I have found my people.

I've got about 11 stone to lose. My BMI is 45 and my height is 5'8" I weigh over 21stone 8lbs

There is literally no reason for me to be fat. I just can't seem to commit to losing weight.

I've decided to do the Cambridge 1:1 diet. Let's see where I get to

Christmasfairy2020 · 28/11/2020 21:20

I've started fluoxetine and it is helping me lose weight as it has decreased my appetite. Maybe change the mirtazapine? If able?

rhowton · 28/11/2020 21:31

Don't beat yourself up! You know it's not great, and that's the first hurdle. Walk as much as you can to start with, and then build up to more types of exercise. Find out how many calories you actually need to lose weight, and stick to it the best you can. Because of your current weight, it wouldnt be that restrictive, so hopefully you can still enjoy some nice things. Have a cheat meal once a week. Download a calorie app and track calories the best you can.

You've got this and you will nail this and in 2022, you may find yourself pregnant with the body of a Goddess.
