Do you wash your new clothes before wearing them?

OP posts:
DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/11/2020 20:40

Sometimes, depends on what it is and where it’s come form.

Bloody hell, that’s a vague answer.

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/11/2020 20:42

Only if I bought them from a charity shop.

Didyousaynutella · 27/11/2020 20:42

No way. ( apart from knickers) I love the first, never been washed wear.

woodlandwalker · 27/11/2020 20:43

Not usually but have done since Covid.

HilaryBriss · 27/11/2020 20:43

Never, I like wearing new clothes, they are never the same once I have washed them Grin

JustSay · 27/11/2020 20:43

If they are second hand or new but have a smell.
I do wash swimming costume and knickers before wearing though.

Poppyolive90 · 27/11/2020 20:44

No. Only thing I would wash is a proper shirt as they often have creases which need to be washed out

AnyFucker · 27/11/2020 20:44

No. Because that would be ridiculous

AgeLikeWine · 27/11/2020 20:45

No, never. Life is way too short for such nonsense.

Tatapie · 27/11/2020 20:46

@AnyFucker

No. Because that would be ridiculous

Yes to underwear, socks, t-shirts, cotton items etc.

No to tailored items, dresses, silks, formal trousers etc

My preference is yes, but only if I am sure I won’t spoil the look , especially if it’s special occasion.

Thelnebriati · 27/11/2020 20:47

Yes, they smell wrong.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 27/11/2020 20:48

I love the new feel and smell.
The first wear is my favourite.
I wish I could make clothes feel like that after washing

1vandal2 · 27/11/2020 20:49

Always because despite covid every single person browsing the clothes touches stuff and that can end up being a lot of people.

Diverseduvet · 27/11/2020 20:49

Never, for anything. Remove label and go.

HelloDulling · 27/11/2020 20:52

No. Never.

Bloodybridget · 27/11/2020 20:54

Never.

Alldayeveryday200 · 27/11/2020 20:56

I never used to no. However I realised the other day that I had washed a new jumper before I wore it. Not intentionally but I ealised it's because I've got in the habit now of washing my baby's new clothes and so automatically started doing this with mine!

broccolibush · 27/11/2020 21:00

Yes. Since I was wedding dress shopping forever ago and the woman who was helping me told me about the numbers of women who turned up to try on without pants on. Made me things that the same pantsless women might have tried on whatever I bought in Topshop. So I wash now.

CathyorClaire · 27/11/2020 21:01

Usually.

Don't like the smell of them unwashed or the thought of other people having possibly swiped their sweaty pits or crotches round them.

Willdoitlater · 27/11/2020 21:01

For me, no, but yes for DH as the dressing on new clothes gives him a rash.

LindaEllen · 27/11/2020 21:04

No, but if I ever pick anything up from a charity shop I will, because they always have a bit of a weird smell to them (and you can never be 100% sure they've been washed since they were last worn).

dinosforall · 27/11/2020 21:04

Nope. And I have reached the age of 37 without ever catching a disease from an item of clothing.

PenOrPencil · 27/11/2020 21:07

Always. New clothes have gone through God knows how many hands, been stored and shipped in dirty places and the fabric has dye and finishers in it.

greenlynx · 27/11/2020 21:09

I wash if it’s something which will be next to my body and allDD’s clothes apart from coats/jackets.
