Do you wash your new clothes before wearing them?

OP posts:
Ghostlyglow · 27/11/2020 21:10

Never for new ones.

Ynwa12345 · 27/11/2020 21:11

Always

Backbee · 27/11/2020 21:12

Yes, but I have ridiculously sensitive skin and find my skin usually gets irritated unless I've used the usual washing powder on them.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/11/2020 21:12

No, never.

MajesticWhine · 27/11/2020 21:14

I have never done this, no.

DaisyDreaming · 27/11/2020 21:15

Yes, aren’t they normally sprayed with something to make them look better on display?

BackforGood · 27/11/2020 21:15

No, never. Life is way too short for such nonsense.

This ^

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 27/11/2020 21:15

Yes, everytime. This has more to do with removing any dust in the clothes (I am severely allergic and sometimes even trying them on is enough to get me into a sneezing fit) than out of any ick factor. On the other hand, I occasionally walk out of a shop wearing my new shoes.

Wankerchief · 27/11/2020 21:16

Yes, always. My 10 year old has contact eczema and I think it's the dye residues?(not sure)
So all my new and his get washed a few times first. He comes out with full body rashes and lizard skin otherwise

Don't to do dps or the teens though as he's not snuggly with them

SuperFairy · 27/11/2020 21:16

Never, I love that first, never worn before, wear.

Unless from a charity shop.

Mhschoolq · 27/11/2020 21:19

Unless second hand (eBay / charity shop) or knickers, nope.

donkir · 27/11/2020 21:20

I wash anything wrapped in plastic so things like pants/knickers or kids pj's and school shirts.

lostandfound55 · 27/11/2020 21:22

I didn’t use to but I do since covid. I think it’s because often they have a funny smell from the packaging whereas there was no smell when I used to buy clothes in shops.

Mistymonday · 27/11/2020 21:25

Yes, always - new and secondhand!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 27/11/2020 21:25

@dinosforall ha spot on...l see your 37 years and raise you 44 years!

amillionwishes · 27/11/2020 21:28

@SuperFairy

Never, I love that first, never worn before, wear.

Unless from a charity shop.

This!! Maybe because I buy my clothes from primark and a wash doesn't help 🙈
RosieBdy · 27/11/2020 21:39

Yes... does anyone else remember a casualty/holby (I think!) episode from years and years ago where the girl didn't wash her new clothes and ended up in hospital?
Something to do with the fact that they were fake and the die gave her a reaction?
I've washed mine when new ever since!

Merrz · 27/11/2020 21:45

Yes. Didn't used to until I bought a dress on line, tried it on very quickly when it arrived, hung it up and wore it on a night out then realised it absolutely stank and I was mortified

MrsJBaptiste · 27/11/2020 21:49

Never! Even with copious ironing, you'll get them them uncreased again.

And yes, I iron and hate creased clothes 😡

itbemay1 · 27/11/2020 21:50

Always. Hate that unwashed feeling, get a bit of flack for it though from my family Confused

PersonaNonGarter · 27/11/2020 22:04

No way - rip the tags off and go

formerbabe · 27/11/2020 22:08

Only pants

maverickallthetime · 27/11/2020 22:43

I didn't until I heard from a friend who lives abroad and told me that they spray rat poison all over the cloth

SlothWithACloth · 27/11/2020 22:46

Only pyjamas. I once heard that some people can react to factory chemicals so I don’t fancy going to bed and waking up to find I’m covered in a rash or something.
I’ve never reacted to new clothes but you never know.

MiddleClassMother · 27/11/2020 22:47

Yes, it used to be because they was on display in stores etc but now most of my clothes are from online. It's just a habit.
