Odd text message from Royal Mail

I’m pretty sure it must be a scam but, it’s sent from the same no. that I’ve had other (legit) notifications of parcels due

It takes me to a page address reschedule-royalmail.co.uk/Receiver.php?accessToken

That looks pretty legit

But then it asks name, address, DoB then for card details

It’s a scam isn’t it?

Why would they need my card details?

No calling card left

I don’t think I’m expecting any deliveries

If you are worried go direct to the royal mail website target than using the link and navigate from there to the reschedule bit.

cheeseismydownfall · 26/11/2020 12:47

The language is wrong. Hard to explain why, but it is just off somehow. Its pretty easy for scammers to spoof the number to make it look like it is originating from a legitimate organisation.

Handsnotwands · 26/11/2020 12:47

Screen shots from link.

Don’t want anyone clicking on it

Yeah that is a scam. You can tell by the URL.

cheeseismydownfall · 26/11/2020 12:50

If it was legit it would be royalmail.co.uk/reschdule, or something like that. Anyone could set up a domain with the words Royal Mail it.

Handsnotwands · 26/11/2020 12:51

The thing I find particularly weird is that is is from the same number that I’ve had numerous other legitimate notifications from

Am trying to report it to Royal Mail but they don’t make it easy

cheeseismydownfall · 26/11/2020 12:51

And it would be "Addressee" or "Recipient", not Receiver.

starryeyed19 · 26/11/2020 12:51

It's a scam. Royal Mail don't text you telling you you've missed a parcel

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 26/11/2020 12:56

They can spoof that - it's how people think they're texting their bank when they aren't.

Have you found this page on the Royal Mail website?

Handsnotwands · 26/11/2020 12:58

They do notify you that a parcel is on its way though. This is part of the text “conversation” with the same number

I have now reported it.

That wording has scam written all over it Grin

SmashingTurnips · 26/11/2020 12:58

I received something similar although I'm not in the UK.
The link went to a page that looked like the legitimate post office but I'm sure it is a scam as it asked for my card details and that I pay 1.99 in order to get my delivery as it had not been property franked.

I'm sure it is a scam and must get round to reporting it.

WhatsErFace2020 · 26/11/2020 12:58

I’ve only just completed a RM redelivery and it looked nothing like this at all!!

Firstly you’d have a ‘something for you’ card posted through your door which has details on in order for you to arrange redelivery.

They absolutely do not request your DOB or card details!! Send this to RM customer service, you won’t be the only one to have received it sadly

MyOwnSummer · 26/11/2020 12:59

personal.help.royalmail.com/app/contact

Then choose "complaints and claims" - they need to know, you won't have been the only one targeted. You should also report to Action Fraud.

Handsnotwands · 26/11/2020 13:00

Thanks theSecondMrsAshwell. I have now reported it

Bloody scamming scamsters.

I had exactly the same text this morning! I almost put all my details in but it didn’t feel right - never been asked for date of birth etc and the letter was apparently from HMRC (which obviously then makes you panic), but it required postage to be paid to reschedule... which wouldn’t have happened from HMRC. It’s a scam.

I have no idea how they have come up in the Royal Mail delivery text stream?? The website is different to normal as well - usually (on mine), it starts with: ryml.me and not reschedule-Royalmail.co.uk

I’m relieved to see this thread as there was still a small part of my mind thinking I hope that it is a scam and there’s not a letter - and now I’m reassured! (And I work in cyber security and can’t believe I almost fell for this!! I think it’s because they’ve somehow latched onto the official Royal Mail text thread - it really validates it even though it feels wrong.)

Scam

tommika · 26/11/2020 13:13

As others have mentioned, a fake sender can clone the source and make messages appear among genuine messages

These screenshots show some genuine ones and include a link to pay a customs charge.
If in doubt you can always google for ‘Royal Mail reschedule’ and ‘Royal Mail pay a fee’ which will bring you to genuine pages and you then enter the reference number etc

Amazon scam is also a new one asking to renew prime membership PayPal too and tv license yes always check URL - legit ones tend to use names and address in correspondence and business address linked to company be careful everyone -

Look at the inconsistencies between the text messages. For example, the authentic one uses ‘am’ after the time.
ChaosTrulyReigns · 26/11/2020 13:21

HOW many unread messages have you got???

Shock
GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 26/11/2020 13:22

I had the same - it’s a scam with a cloned number

RosieTheHat · 26/11/2020 13:22

It seems like a scam This is the correct one for redelivery. I used it myself the other day and I wasn't asked for money and parcel was brought by my usual postie

www.royalmail.com/receiving-mail/redelivery

The 'reschedule' is wrong - RM use redelivery
