I’m pretty sure it must be a scam but, it’s sent from the same no. that I’ve had other (legit) notifications of parcels due

It takes me to a page address reschedule-royalmail.co.uk/Receiver.php?accessToken

That looks pretty legit

But then it asks name, address, DoB then for card details

It’s a scam isn’t it?

It's a scam. I had a genuine-looking Royal Mail email this week saying the same thing with a link to follow. The sender's email address was non-uk. I just deleted it.

StreetHaunting · 26/11/2020 13:27

If it was legit there would have been a card put through your door, and you're right, they wouldn't ask for card details. Scary though, how convincing these things are getting, it's good you drew attention to this. Seems you have to question everything these days! As a poster said upthread it's good practice to not follow these links, find the website address yourself and go in that way.

AuntieStella · 26/11/2020 13:36

The legit version is a card through the door with a reference number. It's a grey/white card - looks just like the red/white 'you were out' card

You can then either follow the link on the card, or google your way to the Royal Mail website. You enter the code and it takes you to a payment page (the sort you'll have seen loads of times). No info is needed other than making a normal (secure) payment, and then the underpaid item turns up in the next day or so.

If you don't want to do it online at all whilst the scam is about, then you can take the card to the specified sorting office and pay at the counter

If I hover over that original link it now bounces through Google Luxembourg and finally shows a PayPal style page

A who.is check against the address comes up as registered with a ‘cheap hosting’ service
Royal Mail must be running short of funds

It's a scam. If you miss a delivery then a red card would have been left. It doesn't cost to have a redelivered unless you want it sent to local post office instead. Also if there is ever any fee to be paid - either because of customs charges or insufficient postage then you would be sent a grey card that is physically delivered by postie. And lack of postage would be something like 1.50 or 2.00 - ie not ending in 99p

JovialNickname · 27/11/2020 17:59

No legitimate company will ever send you an email with a link to click to give your card details.
The rules for giving your card details via an email link are the same as the rules for blackface. It's always wrong.

FishyMcFishyfingersFace · 28/11/2020 00:59

That is a very good scam message, hard to tell what's not right about it, but the last paragraph where it says '...by pressing here' is wrong. It would say something like '...by clicking this link'. The word 'pressing' is not normally used in this situation.

Nordman · 28/11/2020 01:31

In case you are still in doubt, this is a scam. The Royal Mail has a ".com" website, your screenshot shows a ".co.uk" website, so it's not really them.

ineedaholidaynow · 28/11/2020 01:38

I had a similar email supposedly from DPD saying they had tried to deliver a parcel and that I would need to pay an additional fee to have it delivered again. Weirdly I got the email about 5 minutes after DPD had delivered a parcel!

RosieLemonade · 28/11/2020 05:57

@starryeyed19

It's a scam. Royal Mail don't text you telling you you've missed a parcel
Yes they do. I got a text telling me yesterday. They also text you with a delivery time and if they have successfully delivered.

\thanks for thread, OP

PhilCornwall1 · 28/11/2020 07:54

The domain was registered on the 13th November through Namecheap.

It's completely a scam. They are probably banking on the fact that someone reads the domain as reschedule.royalmail.co.uk.

The RM website url is royalmail.com. They could well have the .co.uk one registered too, but what you've got is a straight scam.
