Best veggie sausages

It's for a sausage casserole so I dont want them to fall apart. One friend is vegetarian so if I use veggie sausages I only need to make 1 meal.

And yes - Some Quorn products give some people tummy problems. DS has a horrible reaction to the mince (it usually gave me dodgy tummy the next day) and when I googled it, a few runners magazines had commented on people getting the runs (haha) after eating it.

Ruddyfedup · 25/11/2020 08:14

The frozen quorn ones made my uncle violently vomit every time he had them!

PurpleDaisies · 25/11/2020 08:14

Richmond are the best. I also like shroom dogs. The Linda McCartney ones are fine but wouldn’t be my first choice. Sainsbury’s always have the Richmond sausages round here.

I would do the casserole and sausages separately. Fry the sausages and just add them for five minutes at the end.

Another vote for Richmond. I hate the meat version but DD recently cooked for us with the meat free ones and they were lovely.

TinkersRucksack · 25/11/2020 08:16

Naked Glory or Richmond. They have actual casings which hold everything together, unlike Linda Mac.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/11/2020 08:16

I’d say Sainsbury’s Shroomdogs too, that’s because they are indeed quite nice but also because I really don’t like them ‘meat substitute’ kind of stuff.

Kidneybingo · 25/11/2020 08:24

Do any of you know which are most like the Tesco's own that they don't seem to do any more? We've tried most of the ones mentioned here but they aren't as popular in our house.

bellagogosdead · 25/11/2020 08:27

I am obsessed with Linda McCartney Lincolnshire sausages- they really are the best.

notacooldad · 25/11/2020 08:28

Richmond are my new favourite by miles! These will be great for a casserole.
Linda McCartney are excellent and good for a bangers and Mash type tea.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/11/2020 08:31

Cauldron. Waitrose or Asda generally have them. Sometimes the Coop.

WoodbytheRiver · 25/11/2020 08:33

Another vote for Richmond meat free. There’s a recipe for a pasta dish on the packaging that’s really easy and tasty.

QueenBlueberries · 25/11/2020 08:34

We love Richmond. We are not vegetarians but my kids prefer Richmond to meet sausages now. I use it in casserole and also in pasta sauce, chopped up in bits, fried with vegetables in a tomato sauce.

Parkandride · 25/11/2020 08:35

Richmond!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/11/2020 08:36

I've also used Linda McCartney ones in a casserole when I couldn't get Cauldron, as a pp said, just cook them separately and put them in towards the end.

Why did he keep on eating them?
FamilyOfAliens · 25/11/2020 08:38

Richmond sausages have been made to appeal to meat eaters.

As a vegetarian of over 30 years I find them too similar to the meat sausages I used to eat as a child. Clammy skins when you take them out of the pack and extremely salty.

lastqueenofscotland · 25/11/2020 08:53

Richmond or Sainsbury’s shroomdogs

Trisolaris · 25/11/2020 08:59

Cauldron. They are soy based not quorn.

GameSetMatch · 25/11/2020 09:10

Richmond meat free, they are a bit salty but really tasty!

inappropriateraspberry · 25/11/2020 09:29

Another vote for Richmond. They're a more meaty texture that won't soak up a lot of liquid and go mushy - hate veggie food that does that!

inappropriateraspberry · 25/11/2020 09:31

I think Tesco have changed a lot of their veggie offerings. The 'chicken' pieces go to mush now, they used to hold their shape and texture really well and preferred them to Quorn ones - more flavour. Now they just go mushy and have no taste.
DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 25/11/2020 09:32

Cauldron by a mile.

The shroom dogs are vile, as are the refrigerated plant kitchen ones from Tesco with a skin.

Tesco used to do great frozen Cumberland sausages but no more :(

FamilyOfAliens · 25/11/2020 09:32

They are incredibly salty, because they don’t contain anything that would otherwise give them taste.

As I posted thread, definitely designed for the meat-eating market.

Bajalaluna · 25/11/2020 09:33

Linda McCartney rosemary and red onion are th BEST for that sort of dinner. I'd cook them seperately first though and dunk them in the casserole towards the end.

BuffaloCauliflower · 25/11/2020 09:34

Richmond or Naked Glory hands down. They could trick a meat eater, so definitely a good option for a dish to serve veggies and meat eaters.

Linda McCartney are nice but they’re clearly a veggie sausage and would fall apart cooked in a sauce, I think Cauldron are the same.
