Drinking 1-2ltr water a day? How?

Seems very basic but I don’t seem to manage it!

How do you do it (if you do)? How do you keep track of how much you’ve drunk? If you fill a ltr bottle, do you keep it in the fridge - or beside you, and just drink room temp water? Do you drink little and often, or just a few big drinks?

I drink at least 2 litres a day.

1 litre before lunchtime and another 1 litre before 3pm (then I tend to drink nothing else for the rest of the day).

I'm a teacher, so talk a lot, which I think helps me remember to drink.

I tend to have a gulp every half hour or so, but if I haven't met my 'goal' then I will quickly drink the rest before lunch / home time.

My class are good at reminding me to drink too Grin

@cliffdiver

Do you keep a big bottle of tap water on your desk? As just drink it room temp?

I drink warm water and have two pint-sized glasses I fill at the same time. I fill the two glasses four times during the day (I don't always finish them, so I'm not drinking 8 pints in total, probably 6).

I fill it up from the room temperature water dispenser in the morning and again at lunchtime.

I prefer room temperature water and find if it's cold then it's harder to drink and gets condensation everywhere.

Fleetwoodmacs · 22/11/2020 08:51

Yeah I drink that easily! I find room temp is better as I can drink it more quickly, if it's been in the fridge I'll just sip at it.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 22/11/2020 08:51

It gets easier - after a while your body gets used to having that much and you feel really thirsty if you drink less.

But if you're just starting I would buy a litre bottle to keep track, it's easy to empty one of those over the course of a morning by having a big glug every hour or so. I don't bother putting it in the fridge unless it's an absolutely scorching day.

BendingSpoons · 22/11/2020 08:52

I drink room temp water and always have a bottle or glass to hand whilst working etc. If you like it cold, can you buy a bottle that keeps it cool and pour it in there? Or freeze it and let it slowly defrost? Although that will be slowly at the moment!

KnitsAndGiggles · 22/11/2020 08:53

Get yourself one of those bottles that keeps water cold - I put ice water in mine before bed and it's still got ice cubes in the morning.

Mine was about £15 on amazon and is a make called honeyholly. Its much easier to drink delicious cold water than it is tepid stuff!

GrubbsGrady · 22/11/2020 08:53

I just have a water bottle with a straw and drink throughout the day i think i manage about 1.5l sometimes more especially summer when it gets filled about 10 times a day

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 08:54

It doesn’t have to be water. Tea, coffee, milk, squash etc all count.

miimblemomble · 22/11/2020 08:56

Do you all drink tap water? Where i am it is quite chlorine-flavoured. We have a filter jug, but tbh it’s a faff and probably one of the reasons I don’t drink as much as I should.

Buy a filter water bottle

NoWordForFluffy · 22/11/2020 09:02

We have a filter jug so I drink filtered tap water. I don't find the jug a faff though.

ChasingRainbows19 · 22/11/2020 09:05

I use a large bottle. I drink more from a bottle. I have an active job for 12 hour shifts so easily get through 2l. At home I have a bottle with water with me and just sip it. Also drink 3/4 decaf coffees spread through the day.

Dyrne · 22/11/2020 09:08

I’m not really sure how you’re turning this into such a faff... if you want cold non tap water then just fill an insulated Litre filtered water bottle and sip at it throughout the day (setting timers if you have to).

Alternatively, chug a pint glass of water in the morning to get a head start.

If you don’t like the chlorine taste then fill a jug and stick it in the fridge overnight, that helps the chlorine dissapate a bit.

delilahbucket · 22/11/2020 09:08

I have a 500ml Chillys bottle that I refill. I drink one bottle plus several cups of coffee before lunch, two bottles in the afternoon and mostly a bottle in the evening. I don't down it, just drink often.

Tararararara · 22/11/2020 09:09

Easily. Large (almost pint) glass first thing when I wake up, it's by the side of my bed so I drink it before I get up. Large glass before each meal and then a pint before bed. Plus lots of sipping during the day. I drink 2-3 litres on average.

vanillandhoney · 22/11/2020 09:25

If I drink more than a couple of small glasses of water, I find I'm peeing constantly which really doesn't work with my job 🤣

I'm not dehydrated and my pee is pale.

midnightstar66 · 22/11/2020 09:29

Just always have a bottle to hand. Room temperature water is actually far better for you and is the ideal anyway. I refill from the water dispenser at work although thankfully our tap water is tasty if if it's empty. I imagine it is much more of a faff if it isn't.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 09:30

Is it? On what basis?

midnightstar66 · 22/11/2020 09:31

@vanillandhoney it takes a while for your body to adjust so you will pee regularly at first or if you aren't drinking consistently. Once you are drinking more regularly then you will adjust. It's my skin I notice the most difference in.

PandemicImpact · 22/11/2020 09:35

I don't like tap waters I brought a sodastream. It comes with x2 1L bottles. I add a little lime or lemon juice.

I drink about 4L a day without really thinking about it. Room temperature.

midnightstar66 · 22/11/2020 09:36

@PurpleDaisies room temperature or warm water is better for aiding digestion and absorbing nutrients helps the circulation and eliminates toxins faster. It's fairly common knowledge.

Tararararara · 22/11/2020 09:36

vanillandhoney you get used to it. I'm not peeing constantly. I can't with my job!

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/11/2020 09:39

I fill a 750ml bottle at the start of the work day. I keep it on my desk, drink from it regularly, and it's generally empty by about 11. Fill it again and drink that by about 1:30, then one more refill for the afternoon. That's 2.25 litres of water drunk in the working day. My water bottle is slightly insulated so it does stay relatively cold for a couple of hours.
