Drinking 1-2ltr water a day? How?

miimblemomble · 22/11/2020 08:38

Seems very basic but I don’t seem to manage it!

How do you do it (if you do)? How do you keep track of how much you’ve drunk? If you fill a ltr bottle, do you keep it in the fridge - or beside you, and just drink room temp water? Do you drink little and often, or just a few big drinks?

hellymissy · 22/11/2020 10:42

I fill a tire bottle and keep it with me,gone in no time

pinkbalconyrailing · 22/11/2020 10:47

As long as you pee is pale

there are a few food stuffs (carrots, beetroot, licorice) that affect per colour...

ItsJustARide · 22/11/2020 10:48

A united utilities guy told me that to get rid of the chlorine smell/taste just leave the water jug/kettle lid off for a couple of hours and the chlorine evaporates.

I drink several kettle-fulls to myself starting first thing with a pint of warm juice and a big mug of tea. I fill, boil, make a brew then drink the cooled water throughout the morning then repeat throughout the day. Bit more difficult when out and about but I just take a bottle.

Clockstop · 22/11/2020 10:50

I find a straw helps. I gag at trying to drink a pint of water, but stick a straw in and im fine

Pipandmum · 22/11/2020 10:50

It doesn't have to be water. Other liquids count.

Giantguineapig · 22/11/2020 10:53

The 1-2 litres is a recommendation for active men in the army. Overkill for most people.

PickAChew · 22/11/2020 10:54

Turn on tap, fill glass, drink. Do so every couple of hours or when thirsty.

Though at this time of year, I drink more herbal tea. I need a hot drink when it's chilly. There's no magic in it being actual water.

firstimemamma · 22/11/2020 10:56

I have a large metal bottle - like a chilly's bottle. Keeps the water nice and cool. I drink lots throughout the day and feel noticeably different on the rare occasions I don't.

vanillandhoney · 22/11/2020 10:57

@Tararararara

vanillandhoney you get used to it. I'm not peeing constantly. I can't with my job!
Yep I'm sure you do but I can't "get used to it" as I have nowhere to go to pee in the meantime!

I drink plenty of fluids just not plain water - I have pale pee and no symptoms of dehydration so I'm really not all that fussed tbh.

I'd rather drink other things anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

The 1-2 litres is a recommendation for active men in the army. Overkill for most people.

So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:

About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks

GreyishDays · 22/11/2020 11:08

I’d just start with a couple of changes. Add a big glass of water in somewhere and a big mug of fruit tea.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/11/2020 11:17

@PurpleDaisies @Pipandmum

Not just water?

Great I assume wine counts? (and being a diuretic it makes fast work of getting shot of all that water!) Grin

midnightstar66 · 22/11/2020 11:23

To busy to take a sip of water?
😂

Yes really - not everyone sits at a desk all day with a water bottle beside them. Do you think a nurse run off their feet on a 12 hour shift or a midwife in with a labouring woman can excuse themselves to go for a drink? For myself we can only keep water in the staff cupboard at the other end of our part of the building. Getting away from my 1:1 child is tricky as he can't be lower alone for a second in the first place, but if I'm seen without I'd generally get asked to do another often urgent task and be diverted. It's very common that the only drink I manage is during my half hour lunch (if I get the full half hour I'm lucky)

midnightstar66 · 22/11/2020 11:30

And anyway even in the times it is possible to actually take a drink (a quick swig before getting out the car before collecting dc - I have 10 minutes to get from work to their school) and quick swig when getting out at the swimming pool (15 minutes between collecting from school and needing to be in the pool) when you are busy and rushing it's very easy to not notice thirst, to not remember to take a drink or to think you'll just wait til later.

Mansmansmum · 22/11/2020 11:35

This is bullshit science. There's no research that people should drink this much water each day. If you are struggling to consume that much water then your body is telling you clearly you don't need that much water.

How much H20anyone needs depends completely on their activity levels that day, their size, the temperature, what they eat (e.g. even bread contains water). The 1 to 2 ltr of water is just a marketing ploy to sell you a free resource in plastic bottles.

Drink when you're thirsty. Drink after exercise. Drink with a meal. Drink when you want - then you'll be getting enough.

doadeer · 22/11/2020 11:46

When I worked in an office I just drank a glass or two every hour. Now I'm at home with son I probably do the same, every time I get up or go in kitchen I drink a whole glass. I usually have well over 2 litres. I think I have a steel bladder from always drinking a lot of water. When I was pregnant I drank 5 litres a day, it was a craving!

It's just a habit forming activity. Once you get used to it, it's easy.

Lilliarna · 22/11/2020 11:49

I have a bottle next to me. A 750ml (try to drink at least 4) or 1L (try to drink at least 2) one. That way I can keep track of how much I'm drinking and make sure I drink enough.

I've only been managing 1 750ml bottle a day lately and can really see it in my skin.

dottiedodah · 22/11/2020 12:02

I can easily drink this much. However never away from the loo! as Vanilla and Honey says .My wee is pale as well. One mug of tea with BF and OK on dog walk .2 cups and need to find a tree urgently!

QueenPaws · 22/11/2020 12:03

I drink loads but usually weak squash - like this that's sat next to me! Probably 2 or 3 x 600ml of that then maybe 4-6 mugs of tea

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 12:04

Great I assume wine counts? (and being a diuretic it makes fast work of getting shot of all that water!)

Sadly alcohol doesn’t count.

midsomermurderess · 22/11/2020 12:06

Remember that you don't need to drink up to 2 litres of water a day. Most of the liquid your body needs comes from breaking down food you eat. And it doesn't need to be water either. All that 'coffee is a diuretic' is tosh in these circumstances. No ones drinks enough of it to make you pee like a horse and all liquid makes you pee anyway.

beautyboxaddict · 22/11/2020 12:08

I struggle with plain water sometimes so I bought some Waterdrops (flavoured thingys) which help. They sell really nice bottles which also helps as I can have a bottle with me and a bottle ready in the fridge.

I’ve put a post up in the referrals thread for a fiver off if anyone did fancy trying them.

SimonJT · 22/11/2020 12:09

@Giantguineapig

The 1-2 litres is a recommendation for active men in the army. Overkill for most people.
The general rule is 1litre of water for every 25kg of body weight.

As someone who is in the 4 litre group 1-2 litres would leave my with dehydration if I consumed such a small amount of water over several days. Plus people who don’t drink a lot have very bad breath.

pastandpresent · 22/11/2020 12:13

I drink cold green tea all day long. I carry my bottle around with water + green tea bag in it. It's 500ml and I refill at least 3/4 times, as well as drinking hot green tea occasionally. I think I drink well over 2L a day.

Bwlch · 22/11/2020 12:36

Beer seems to...
