Drinking 1-2ltr water a day? How?

miimblemomble · 22/11/2020 08:38

Seems very basic but I don’t seem to manage it!

How do you do it (if you do)? How do you keep track of how much you’ve drunk? If you fill a ltr bottle, do you keep it in the fridge - or beside you, and just drink room temp water? Do you drink little and often, or just a few big drinks?

Make it easy for yourself. If your filter hug is a faff get one that isn't. If you don't like plain water get some kind of flavouring. If you don't like cold drinks try herbal teas. Whatever, just do something.

I don't use the bottles, I just know how much my cups/glasses take and keep a tally chart if I've realised I've not been drinking enough, e.g. Illness or busy day. Otherwise the rest of the time it's habit because I know how many times I should have topped up etc.

Titsywoo · 22/11/2020 09:48

I don't see why everyone makes such a big deal about this tbh. I drink when I'm thirsty and only drink water as I dont like other drinks much but I'm sure if I add it up it's somewhere between 1.5 and 2 liters most days. I don't understand why people force it down to meet some sort of requirement. Surely everyone gets thirsty? Well have a drink then Confused

Tararararara · 22/11/2020 09:54

Surely everyone gets thirsty? Well have a drink then confused lots of people don't recognise thirst, or mistake it for hunger or tiredness. The more you drink the more easily you recognise thirst.

Sometimesonly · 22/11/2020 09:59

You would think so but I rarely used to drink and my skin was so dry. Since I have been consciously making myself drink water it is a lot less itchy and dry. I don't know why I never really felt the need to drink. For me it has helped a lot that I work from home now. I got into the habit of not drinking because I never had time to go to the loo/loos were really horrible at work and so I trained myself not to! (Not good I know).

This. I used to drink plenty of water, but I've just got out of the habit and finding it very hard to remember to drink. I've got so used to not drinking enough I think, feeling thirsty is just normal now and it doesn't make me go and drink as there's always something else that I "need" to do more urgently. So I put it off - and the faff with the filter makes a mental block. In theory I know it takes like seconds to do, in practice I think "oh god I'll have to stand there waiting for the filter to work, and I need to be at that meeting / picking up child / etc etc - I'll do it later." Then I realise I haven't drunk anything other than a few cups of tea all day.

I know that I'm massively overthinking this! thanks for all the tips.

Well shock horror - not everyone is the same as you. Without making the effort I was barely drinking at all. I'm very busy at work and only have half an hour at lunch then go home and am rushing around til late. You don't notice yourself being thirsty if you don't have time to think about it plus your body gets used to it. I feel thirstier now I am making the effort to drink than when I was barely drinking at all.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 10:07

Those count.

A typical mug is about 250ml so three cups of tea is three quarters of a litre.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 10:10

Actually I’ve underestimated according to google so three cups of tea could be a litre already.

Violetroselily · 22/11/2020 10:11

I probably have 3.5-4 litres a day. Pint in the morning, then I fill my 750ml bottle 3 or 4 times a day whilst I'm working. Probably another pint in the evening.

I don't tend to drink anything but water tbh

To busy to take a sip of water? 😂
TheDaydreamBelievers · 22/11/2020 10:14

500ml chillys bottle that'll keep it cold. Keep beside me at all times and keep drinking. Refill the moment its empty!

Lightningrain · 22/11/2020 10:14

I find it hard as well, mainly because as soon as I make a conscious effort I’m constantly up and down to the toilet. I go out and about driving a lot for work and it’s awful when you’re desperate for a wee!

I only like cold water so I use a Chilly’s bottle.

reluctantbrit · 22/11/2020 10:15

I started taking a pint glass with apple juice mixed with sparkling water with me when i start working at 9am. It is around 25% juice to 75% water. That is refilled when empty so I think I do 2 glasses before lunch and 2 after plus numerous cups of tea.

We have a soda stream typ water carbonator as we only drink sparkling water and I got fed up with the amount of plastic bottles. In Summer I took the carbonator bottle up with me and drunk a lot more just the plain water as it was so warm.

I hate the taste of normal tap water though and will only drink it really cold if I have to.

Tararararara · 22/11/2020 10:16

😂

Depends on your job. I spend my day gowned up in layers of PPE and I'm not allowed to drink except at certain times. I can't just take a sip of water, that involves doffing my kit and redonning.

Bwlch · 22/11/2020 10:17

As long as you pee is pale, don't worry about it. Tea counts and there is a lot of water in food too.

Beef mince is around 75% water and potatoes 80%.

diplodocusinermine · 22/11/2020 10:17

I keep a 300ml glass in the bathroom cupboard and drink a glass of water when I get up in the morning and another one before I clean my teeth before bed, so there's 600ml without really trying. Other than that I do far better in the morning - usually manage 2 or 3 glasses. It tails of a bit in the afternoon.

Youngatheart00 · 22/11/2020 10:20

You’re not alone OP, bizarrely I’m drinking less water now I’m wfh than when I was in the office and had a chilled water dispenser nearby. DH works in the kitchen so it’s relatively out of bounds for most of the day (he is on zoom calls etc). I’ll fill a 500ml bottle but often find that it’s 6pm and that’s all I’ve drunk that day. Then I find myself craving something fizzy and sugary like coke but on reflection that’s probably as I’m dehydrated!! Will make a proper effort this week....

miimblemomble · 22/11/2020 10:24

As long as you pee is pale

Unf it isn't always - TMI maybe. I'm also suffering occasional constipation, headaches, tiredness and my skin is looking very wrinkly and flaky. They could all be explained away for other reasons but drinking more is clearly a good place to start.

A few cups of tea (and it's not a mug, just a teacup) isn't enough: I also cycle to work and back 2-3 days a week (30 mins each way), and I never remember to take a water bottle with me.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 10:26

Maybe start using a mug for your tea? That’s an easy swap.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 22/11/2020 10:30

I don't drink 2 litres of water in it's purest form but I probably drink that amount in tea.

Misandrylovescompany · 22/11/2020 10:31

Drink a glass when you wake up, first thing. A glass or two with each meal. A litre bottle to have with you during the working day (if possible, depends on your job obviously). That should do it.

GreenPlum · 22/11/2020 10:34

It's good to see you getting genuinely useful suggestions and a healthy adult conversation.

I asked this question a couple of years ago and got a load of sarcasm. 'Open mouth. Pour in water' was one! I was even tipped off that there was a Reddit post about it. Seems there's a place where Mumsnetters hang out to bitch about people on here. One woman accused me of being a wee troll!

Anyway, I eventually got into the habit of always having a water bottle with a straw spout next to me. I took it everywhere. That was the goal rather than the water drinking. After a couple of weeks of staying well hydrated, my thirst mechanism kicked in and now I'm sipping evenly throughout the day and get through my quota.

chuffedasbuttons · 22/11/2020 10:35

Are you able to afford a new tap?
I couldn't drink the tap water when I lived in London.

Get a filter tap. Really easy to change the filter every six months. Don't buy the branded one! £25 a filter

www.fountainsofteners.co.uk/Mobile/abode-gosford-3way-tap-chrome-c2x11547558

This tap has gone a bit mental. I paid £180 for one 5 years ago - some places sell it for £440. Bloody joke.

pinkbalconyrailing · 22/11/2020 10:39

coffee, tea, jiuce, soup allcount towards you liquid intake.
I have 300ml mugs of coffee a day and about the same amount of hot water.
and a large mug of herbal tea after dinner.

pinkbalconyrailing · 22/11/2020 10:39

3 x 300ml
