Drinking 1-2ltr water a day? How?

Seems very basic but I don’t seem to manage it!

How do you do it (if you do)? How do you keep track of how much you’ve drunk? If you fill a ltr bottle, do you keep it in the fridge - or beside you, and just drink room temp water? Do you drink little and often, or just a few big drinks?

When we need to replace fluid there's this highly accurate mechanism called thirst that prompts us to have a drink.

When you're thirsty have some water.


And like a lot of natural prompts, it can be ignored for whatever reason - and if we do that often enough then eventually that feels like the norm.
I’ve got into the habit of putting off having a drink even when I’m thirsty. So just being thirsty isn’t enough to make me stop what I’m doing and have a drink.

Just like people keep eating when they are full, or don’t eat when they are starving, or stay awake when they are tired or keeping running when they are gasping for breath. Do any of these often enough, and your brain comes to recognise that as “normal”. Not everyone listens and responds perfectly to their bodies cues, for lots of reasons.

I was told that caffeinated drinks don't count as the caffeine is a diuretic. So tea and coffee don't count, but soupd and other liquids do count.

This is incorrect. The amount of extra water lost through any diuretic effect compared with what you consume is minimal. Caffeinated drinks still count.

I am very rarely thirsty. I have to remind myself to drink.

I can easily drink 2 litres. I have a bottle which i take most places (if there ate toilets near!) with those marks on the side to tell you by 10am you drink this, 11am this etc.

I wonder how we survived before these existed Confused

Both my children have bottles with time marks on that they have only at home (different bottle for school)

I have chronic migraine made much worse if my fluid intake drops so yes it does matter a lot for some.

I have a 2 L bottle in fridge, got it from Poundland. Ensure I drink all that and decaf tea and sometimes a caffeine free sprite on top.

Sometimes it's still not enough.

I only drink bottled water or cooled boiled water. Never from the tap. Had cryptosporidium from the water supple yrs ago and i was rather ill.

I thought this 2 litres of water on top of everything you drink and eat was discredited years ago.

Humans evolved on this planet with no need to drink water from a bottle constantly.

The thirst meaning you are already dehydrated was debunked years ago too.

I didn't intend to scare you. I'd did make it clear that you needed to drink 'too much' and that liver damage was rare.

Scientific opinion on the safety of green tea catechins

Case reports of hepatotoxicity induced by the exclusive use of green tea products were evaluated and 22 cases were found where green tea was claimed to be the only causative agent leading to an almost exclusive hepatocellular pattern of liver injury (1 out of 22 cases was mixed). Eight of the cases were reported to occur after consumption of green tea infusion, whereas most cases were associated with green tea supplements

I think these marked bottles are a sales scam. Well the whole 2 litres-a-day thing is.

Cavemen and cavewomen didn't have marked bottles, they drank when they were thirsty, and they begat (sic) us.

You are at risk of flushing away all your electolytes.

I stand at the sink and chug the first glass, then refill. I only have to do that twice a day and I’ve drunk 1.2L. Then other drinks are on top of that.

You can buy water bottles on them with times marked on, so you can make sure you're drinking enough each hour.

I don't drink as much as I should, but I do sip water constantly through the day, so I get a fair amount down me by the end of the day!

Bwlch, I just googled, and it says, warning about green tea extract supplement causing liver damage. Not actual regular drinking of green tea, I assume.
Also, I am drinking very diluted cold green tea, I don't think I am over dosing on too much antioxidants.

I have a brita filter jug that I keep in the fridge. I have squash and use an insulated bottle which keeps it cold all day. I drink 2-3 litres a day but have been known to drink up to 4, depends on what I'm doing. My work routine helps and I do drink less at the weekend.

I have a 2 litre refillable bottle, I fill it up normally twice a day, room temperature water and with lime squeezed in everytime. As I prefer that to plain water.

Really, Bwlch? Then most of the people from my country has significant liver damage since we drink it from quite early age and all though our lives. But funny enough liver damage is not very common in my country

So, it's rare then?

I used to be terrible at drinking enough, probably used to drink barely 1 litre a day and when I did it would be some form of fizzy drink. Decided a year ago to up my game and start drinking more so I bought myself a 1 litre water bottle online so I’d only have to fill it up 3 times a day. It worked and I have religiously drunk 3 litres a day, every day without fail. I always use temperature room water as I just prefer it. Sometimes I drink half a litre in one go, sometimes I sip it gradually, just depends on how I’m feeling. It can be done, you just have to be more mindful about it. Good luck! 😊

Good drinking habits are vital. Lots of elderly people do not drink enough and as they also eat a lot less they are in danger of dehydration.

My mum is a prime example, last time we spent 2 days with her she had a cup of tea at breakfast, a small glass of water with lunch and another with dinner. That's less than 1l in all. She ate three small meals and two biscuits. She got recently a telling off from her GP about this when she said she was more tired and he always checks about fluid intake with pensioners straight away.

I think sometimes we are too much dependent on carrying a bottle around, unless you are out of the house the whole day, people can survive 2 hours shopping or going on a stroll without the need to carry around a bottle of water. But good drinking habits are important.

I also find that I personally get bloated if I don't drink enough.

I drink cold green tea all day long. I carry my bottle around with water + green tea bag in it. It's 500ml and I refill at least 3/4 times, as well as drinking hot green tea occasionally. I think I drink well over 2L a day.

Drinking lots of green tea can have some nasty side effects.
