Pz help us find somewhere to live!!!!

Going around in circles for so long and need to chose a location to live. Looking for a town / outskirts of city maybe, house budget up to £300k, preferably less to start whilst we get settled.

We love beautiful countryside and also beaches so keep ending up looking at small villages with no facilities and no shops! This is exactly what we don't want having had some bad experience living in a small village in the countryside.

Looking for an area with good schools (2 DC under age 10), good high street shops, cafes, restaurants, things to do, good travel links, low crime rates, nice people. We don't want to have to drive for miles to go to the shops!

Thank you!

Tynemouth or North Shields.

tigerbear · 21/11/2020 11:05

Totally agree with @InTheLongGrass - was just coming on to this thread to say Tynemouth or North Shields, or Whitley Bay.
Am biased, as from there, but all of my family are there, and wish I could move back!
The quality of life up there is amazing.

@doubledeckersarethebest here’s a pic of the beach at Tynemouth from when I was up there in the summer. Stunning!
(Honestly, the number of times I’ve posted on here on the ‘where shall I move to’ threads, I should work for the North East tourist board!)Smile

MaddeningtheUnhelpful · 21/11/2020 11:23

anywhere between Chichester to Portsmouth fits the bill

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 21/11/2020 11:32

Lincolnshire is nice. Low crime in most places (avoid Grimsby though). You're never far from the countryside and there are loads of beaches. House prices are really reasonable too.

WankPuffins · 21/11/2020 11:48

There's some nice places around Norwich. Or even Norwich itself I'm I'm honest.

doubledeckersarethebest · 21/11/2020 14:36

Thanks all! @tigerbear love those houses thank you!

Shrewsbury might work for you.

MrsMariaReynolds · 21/11/2020 14:52

Yes---Norwich. Very lovely!

tigerbear · 21/11/2020 15:51

@doubledeckersarethebest they are lovely aren’t they! So sad that I can’t move back for at least another 9 years!

Stillfunny · 21/11/2020 17:06

No intention of moving there . But those houses are amazing .

Skyliner001 · 21/11/2020 17:09

South Northumberland. The beaches up north are astounding

BIWI · 21/11/2020 17:10

Where will you be working? That's pretty important to know!

doubledeckersarethebest · 21/11/2020 19:07

Swansea. Gorgeous small, friendly city on the coast. This house is in the West of Swansea on the edge of the Gower and near the Mumbles which is amazing. Lots of incomers seeing the house prices and moving to the area.

Good schools too.

Mumbles, Sketty, Killay and Uplands have local shops, veg, bakeries, butchers etc. Swansea covered market, In town, for fresh fish and cockles!

Lots of great cafes etc.

Town centre is rubbish atm although there is development but we shop online for non food, or go to Cardiff.

Also great parks, castles, beaches and beach life, LC2 pool, soft play and gym, indoor climbing, skatepark, etc. Inde cinema and theatre.

Upper killay in Swansea also v nice.

izzyrose85 · 21/11/2020 20:24

I came on to say the same as the first few posters - Whitley Bay/Tynemouth! Outskirts of Newcastle and on the metro network so you can easily get to city centre, but beaches are great.

bravotango · 21/11/2020 20:25

Liverpool?

Chipsahoy · 21/11/2020 20:33

We had same wishes and house is now on sale and we will be relocating to Northumberland!

Notlostjustexploring · 21/11/2020 20:40

How important is the weather? If I worked from home I'd probably live West coast of Scotland, Ayr or similar. Town, good access to Glasgow and countryside, on a beach.

Chepstow in South Wales is nice, good access to Bristol?

Norah8 · 21/11/2020 20:42

dumfries and galloway 100%
brilliant schools
beaches

lovely restaurants
laid back pace of life.

LooseMooseHoose · 21/11/2020 20:43

New property outskirts of large town but everything walkable.
great schools.

CormoranStrike · 21/11/2020 20:49

This one - mind you, you need a short ferry to get near big towns or cities, but worth it
