BEST Mumsnet tips

I am bored, having a wine.

Reading some threads and I thought it might be nice to share the best tips or advice you have had on here.

Here are mine:

Ask for a variation on the cms calculator if they are self employed

Buy a duvet from John Lewis that can go in the wash whole with no duvet cover

Not to see dolphins at sea world or swim with them (I didn't know about their treatment and issues through being kept captive)

Endless recipes

Support when I've needed to vent and not be made to feel petty

Help with access arrangements or lack of them

Help with debt advice when my ex h left me in the shit and fucked off to the other side of the world and left me with a house he'd wrecked and I had to sell. I came off no better or no worse thanks to the advice on here.

An idiots guide to gender critical thinking and issues women face if we accept gender over sex

This is all I have for now.

Putting a layer of frozen peas over the meat before topping with mash in shepherd's pie. Also great in fish pie. Stops the mash sinking in.

FlibbertyGiblets · 20/11/2020 19:08

Cut your pizza with scissors.
Babyliss big hair.

Leave the alcoholic abusive bastard.
Don't feel guilty just live your life.
I absolutely love MN and credit the relationships board esp Atilla for helping me get where I am now: with a lovely fantastic viking of a man who supports me and listens to me and enjoys what I do, (we're supposed to be married by now but had to postpone for covid!)
My ex hated MN because he knew that's where I found my assertiveness and knowledge
My fiance (this is 7 or 8 years later) laughs along with me at the funny threads Smile

nancybotwinbloom · 20/11/2020 19:20

@FlibbertyGiblets I literally just did this with a pizza!

Take the 'negative space' out of sticker books, so that children can peel the stickers off themselves.

So many recipe tips. You can make amazing peanut butter cookies by mixing 260g crunchy peanut butter, 220g sugar and 1 egg then dolloping on a baking tray, squashing down a bit with a fork and baking at 180c for 10mins. Do not touch until cool. Amazing, super simple, gluten free.

FlouncerInDenial · 20/11/2020 19:33

Deodorant between your thighs on a hot day if you are, ahem experiencing rubbage. I've passed this tip on to others

Change your skincare to Superdrug naturally radiant range. You’ll save a fortune, it’ll be vegan and cruelty free and it will look the best it’s ever done.

Peas under mash is bloody brilliant.
The top tips I use often are if you wear glasses and like to read in the bath, dunk your glasses in the bath water and dry them and then they don’t steam up.
Freeze whole chillies and then just grate them into dishes when you need them.
The people on the Brave Babes alcohol support thread are life savers. Literally

That babies vests have envelope necks so you can pull them down their bodies rather than over their heads in case of poonami.

To pick my battles when it comes to the DC.

That it's fine to say "no, sorry, that doesn't work for me/that doesn't suit today" without a rambling explanation/apology (this is my slightly chickened out version of "no is a complete sentence").

About the "mental load" and why I shouldn't have to carry it all.

About using zoflora to make my porch full of batttered, muck-covered shoes smell delightfulGrin

And loads more! I also have that peanut cookie recipe saved to try. Must do it this weekend!

I'm still working on this.

Regularly clean/do maintenance on your washing machine.

Occasionally run your washing machine at its hottest/longest setting. Nothing in it. No washing powder/tablet.

It cleans leftover remaining suds. Makes it smell less musty and prolongs the life of your machine.

Also: to clean the glass on your oven. Get cheap dishwasher tablet, slightly wet it and then rub on glass. Gets the grease right off.

minou123 · 20/11/2020 20:21

I have a theme here.....I love cleaning tips:

To wipe down internal doors: 1 cap full of fabric conditioner in a bowl of water. Dunk a duster in, wring out as much water as possible. Gently, wipe your doors.
Cleans them, leaves a nice smell and doesn't damage paintwork

BrandoraPaithwaite · 20/11/2020 20:33

Get calpol marks out of carpets with warm water. It melts the sugar and the stain comes right out.

Mollypolly2610 · 20/11/2020 22:56

i put a tin of creamed corn over my shepherds pie then the mash on top

marthastew · 20/11/2020 23:04

"I'm sure you didn't mean to sound so rude/sexist."

Nod and smile. Nod and smile.

CoronaCurls · 20/11/2020 23:12

My best tip from mumsnet - to stop socks going missing in the wash, put them in a washing net, wash them in this (also fine in the tumble dryer) and no missing socks!

EndlessWaffle · 21/11/2020 05:16

Just went and put Zoflora in my online grocery shop Grin
