Nydj
But there has been progress, really, there is a big box of paper that goes to the Austrian National library, another box for an archive in Tallin etc.
He is working at it.

We forced the teens into a family movie night - we watched The Way Way Back which was brilliant - and then had a Switch battle and I am glowing with a) exertion and b) happiness at my lovely family. Grin

SilkieRabbits · 21/11/2020 20:57

DS has just come and asked me what is happening with the mega-floof, I asked him if he meant the rug I bought him that DH has just brought in and he said yes and said DH has just left it on the stairs and him and rabbit want mega-floof.

soddingkitten · 21/11/2020 21:13

@Squirrel26

Informed friend’s 10 year old that 200 years ago when his mother and I were at university, mobile phones could only store 10 text messages, and then you had to delete some. ‘What? Only 10 in one go?’ No, child, 10 TOTAL. Tough times. Grin
Was it an Eriksson clamshell phone? My first Eriksson was the same - only 10 texts and the phonebook could store 30 numbers. I had to be selective about friends. It could go about 5 days on a single charge, mind.
SilkieRabbits · 21/11/2020 21:19

Mobile phones didn't exist when I was at university, had to go and find a payphone in a red telephone box. Some richer students shared a BT line, that was luxury. Grin

soddingkitten · 21/11/2020 21:26

I was at uni before mobiles and our student accommodation block had no phone. My Dad wrote to me (mailed letter, no email until final year) on a few occasions asking me to call and let him know I was still alive. 😆

DS2 helped with measuring out and cutting the fabric for the sofa arm protectors this afternoon. We pinned and tacked two of them. One fits like a glove. One is sitting all wrong and needs to be unpicked and redone.

@Spudlet Fatigue after blood donation is very common. Keep your fluids up.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

eggy You've got snails!! How lovely! And they look beautiful.

DD's kindergarten teacher kept her Agate snails in their group room and DD loved them (and spiders) - still does.

Just one snail now @Prokupatuscrakedatus. Our other one died earlier this year. Just taken this for you and as I pointed my phone at him, he slowly turned to face me. Making sure I got his best side. (Snails are haemaphradites but we call him 'he' for ease) Also featured, his new cuttlefish bone.

@eggypegg

Thank you - he looks great! Very impressive!
(In German snails (Schnecken) are grammatically female, so he'd be female if living with me Smile

Are they difficult to keep?

EggyPegg · 21/11/2020 21:55

@Prokupatuscrakedatus. No, not especially. They like a humid environment so he has two small heaters on his vivarium. One on the front and one on the top at a right angle to it, which creates a warm area, and then he has the rest of the tank to move away from the heat as he needs to. They love all kinds of fruit and veggies, so we just change that daily. If you don't, you get fruit flies. They love to climb all over the snail and breed in the soil, but doing a complete clean out of the tank sorts that. As long as you stay on top of the food changes, they only need cleaning once a month or so. The DC caught lots of woodlice from the garden to live in there with him, and they seem very happy. They eat the snail poo, so help keep the tank clean.

We used to have him in a small fish tank, but I bought him this vivarium earlier this year, so he lives in the penthouse now. He's got a private pool and everything.

They're lovely characters. He loves bathing in his pool and having a shower in the kitchen sink.

You learn something new everyday. Henry can become Henrietta de Schnecken then.

grassisjeweled · 21/11/2020 21:59

Used a different type of spud for my roast potatoes, wondering if they'll be as good as yellow potatoes

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2020 22:02

@eggypegg

I've copied this for DD to have a look. Her favourite spider has left her and she toys with the idea of spiders or snails for company. As we no longer have a cat. (She's an adult.)

halfpasteleven · 21/11/2020 22:19

Hello all
Love getting into bed and reading this thread.. the pace of it suits night time reading I think.

My DS had his first guitar lesson (on zoom) this evening. It hasn't put him off and I'm secretly delighted as it's something for him to practice and keep busy seeing as he cannot meet his friends.
I made chicken ala king for dinner this evening. I found it v relaxing. DP asked for seconds so it must have been good.

SilkieRabbits · 21/11/2020 22:47

Just had spag bol and garlic bread for dinner. DS couldn't wait until morning for 'mega-floofy' rug so has taken it and was putting it all over DD though she said that was fine. Can hear lots of giggling from DS. DD says she's expecting a mega-floof rug as part of Christmas presents.

SilkieRabbits · 21/11/2020 23:53

DS is sleeping on his rug so DD can't steal it in the night.

Frownette · 22/11/2020 00:05

I've just spray canned a wooden light chair outside in gold metallic.

I'll wait til the morning and see if it takes. Too dark at present.

I picked up a pyrex bowl in my local Goodwill (thrift shop) a few months ago which was perfect for 'baking' brownies in my Instant Pot. It gets too hot here in summer to turn on the oven, so DD4 and I investigated Instant Pot recipes. DS saw my bowl and informed me it's laboratory grade and therefore likely to survive our baking experiments. It is apparently a reusable borosilicate glass dish with heavy duty rim ideal for storage and crystallization.

Here it is - 2 for $220:

I got it for $2.99.

Champagneforeveryone · 22/11/2020 03:30

I have just managed to purchase milk from our local farm vending machine. True, I had to do it on the way home at 3am so that I don't have to queue as it's probably laced with crack become very popular, but I feel a smug sense of achievement. I even bought DS some strawberry milkshake.

ChampagneCat is sat on the dining table, I have just turned round to see DDog3 sat beautifully and neatly on the coffee table.

I have bought the back door mat in to put by the fire. DH must be feeling guilty about the filter throwing incident, as I notice he has hoovered with the shiny red bastard that is Henry Hoover. As he also put a wash on as well, I fear his imminent emasculation Grin

halfpasteleven · 22/11/2020 04:45

DD has had her bottle and I'm about to go back to sleep under fresh sheets. Bliss.

SilkieRabbits · 22/11/2020 05:09

The cat just howled one single really sad howl.

DH went down and discovered the cat had just woken to an empty food bowl but he came to her rescue and filled it so now she's stuffed, happy sleeping cat again.

PersisFord · 22/11/2020 06:54

I’ve just caught up on 24 hours of updates from you all. Nothing at all has happened here except that we have made and eaten chocolate ice cream.

PersisFord · 22/11/2020 07:07

I can also say that I have found GREAT COMFORT in Georgette Heyer and Terry Pratchett at all stressful times in my life.

PersisFord · 22/11/2020 07:09

And also that I have an adjustable cake tin as well - not exactly the same but close enough I hope to qualify me for the thread. Mine is used for flapjack and home made versions of those organix flapjack bars that cost more than their weight in gold!

Frownette · 22/11/2020 08:15

I didn't think much of my spray canned chair. It looks too soft effect rather than the splashy bright gold I wanted. Need better spray cans.

I went for a walk an hour ago and met a gorgeous 3 legged black and white cat, it was a white fluffy one with random black streaks over it, never seen that sort of marking before.

I stayed with it a little while and luckily someone was coming out of the house opposite and I said "excuse me, do you know whose cat this is?" and he laughed and said it was his, which was a relief.

It didn't help that I was wearing my pop art murderous cat top, I'm going a bit Andy Warhol at present
