Canaries holiday - can't get tests

MozzchopsThirty · 17/11/2020 20:49

What would you do??

We're booked to go to canaries on 28th dec
We need to prove a negative covid test done 72 hours before travel

Which would be Xmas day
Boxing Day is Saturday
Nowhere is offering private tests over Xmas period
Postal tests not an option due to the Xmas post, time etc

Does anyone have any ideas on how we can do this??
TIA

@165EatonPlace

I think the Gawick Airport test must be Antigen testing because a PCR test cannot be turned around so quickly.
It is the PCR test. However, you have to turn up at Gatwick Airport (or Edinburgh Airport) at least 24 hours in advance of departure.
MozzchopsThirty · 26/11/2020 07:56

I think Gatwick is our only option, it means a 7 hour round trip on Boxing Day so going to see what the group consensus is and go from there

Are RANDOX working? Can you post it the drop off site nearest you (airport).

MozzchopsThirty · 10/12/2020 08:18

Have all fellow travellers heard the news ???

From today, antigen tests will suffice yippee

Torvi · 10/12/2020 08:52

Although the problem is that not many places offer them. Hopefully that will change soon.

MozzchopsThirty · 10/12/2020 09:20

Airports are offering, most clinics and Superdrug

Throwntothewolves · 10/12/2020 09:22

Is there a private testing centre at the airport? There is at the one near us. They want people to fly after a devastating year for the industry, try contacting them

Starisnotanumber · 10/12/2020 09:23

Nothing showing about change on UK gov website so would be careful until actual information is formally published

It's been announced by Canarian president who clearly couldn't give 2 fucks what Madrid says

Canaries holiday - can't get tests

Not sure where abouts you are but East Midlands Airport are also doing all of the tests.

MozzchopsThirty · 10/12/2020 09:34

Stansted booking antigens now

LHR and LGW have been providing testing for a few weeks

This clinic has offices all over London and are offering £59 antigen tests with lots of availability

That’s incorrect. As of today antigen tests are acceptable

@AnyFucker

PCR test only within 72 hours of arrival. You won't be boarding your flight unless you have the proof, along with date/time/ official lab used and passport details.

Travelled to Spain las week and as we boarded we were asked if we had the PCR test, said yes and off you go. Didn’t take it out of the handbag.

I wouldn’t have risked going without it, but They were super relaxed about it.

OP, call the hotel and ask for advice, I saw yesterday on the news that Canary Islands are going to accept the Antigen test that you get results back in 15 minutes.

@TimeQuest01 have you read the most recent posts??

OP posts:
JudgeRindersMinder · 10/12/2020 10:00

@MozzchopsThirty sorry the quote didn’t quote!
What I was referring to was a oo saying that antigen tests were not acceptable, as of yesterday they are.

My PCR was checked by ground crew at Edinburgh airport, and there were a couple of people not allowed in the flight as they didn’t have it

MozzchopsThirty · 10/12/2020 10:01

Best news I've had in weeks where were you flying @JudgeRindersMinder ??

I’m sat at home instead of sunning myself at Tenerife as the assured screening lab in barnard castle
A took ages to process our tests
B when they did send our results at midnight, 11 hours before the flight , mine came back as no results which wasn’t even a category

We emailed the company and 58 hours later have still had no answer as to what it meant.
Nothing came through the night , so at 6-30 am cancelled the taxi

Such a rip off.
It’s really put me off rebooking

Whatever you do don’t book confirm, they are messing people about even more

Dowser · 10/12/2020 10:06

Randox use dx couriers who don’t pick up after 10 am on Saturday
Till Monday and are Northern Ireland based
We had a Tuesday flight so couldn’t use them.

Dowser · 10/12/2020 10:14

As for judgey mnetters who don’t like other mnetters going on holiday T this time

We went in October to Tenerife and it was lovely
They definitely need our custom.
80 per cent of the big hotels in las americas were closed as were many bars and restaurants..but there was still plenty going on to enjoy ourselves.

I felt perfectly safe, no more at risk than here and with 36 on the plane it was like being on our own private jet

This virus is going to be around for a very long time and I’m not prepared to put what precious few years I have left on hold.
We live quietly here and quietly there and I will visit every chance I can.

If you don’t like it, you’re on the wrong thread.

Exactly!!

@MozzchopsThirty I’m in Tenerife just now and it’s glorious...and for anyone judging even my GO encourages me to come as I suffer terribly with depression and also SAD at this time of year

MozzchopsThirty · 10/12/2020 10:18

Oh @Dowser I'm so sorry you didn't get to travel Sad that sucks!
Not so restricted here with options for testing as can easily travel to Birmingham or London within a couple of hours

@JudgeRindersMinder lucky you!!!! 😎 good weather then

I can't wait to get away, although compared to a lot of people we've been very lucky and had 3 short breaks abroad
But I am really looking forward to eating, drinking, and lying down a lot in the warm
