Aged 16 I went on a 5 minute pleasure flight in Orlando. We flew over discovery cove and saw the dolphins.

I was air lifted to hospital when I was 19. I was in and out of consciousness and don't remember much at all.

Cape Point in South Africa to Stellenbosch then back over Table Mountain. Just fabulous. Also a pleasure flight from Goodwood out around the Isle of Wight and back. I love helicopters.

TheRuleofStix · 14/11/2020 22:00

Twice - loved it! The hideous crash in the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago really put me off though ShockSad.

Kolsch · 14/11/2020 22:01

Yes, plenty when I was in the forces.
The best one was sitting beside the open door flying over the jungle in Belize. Incredible sight.

RealJudas · 14/11/2020 22:04

Like op, once for fun (over New York - I say fun, I don't like flying, so not totally fun) and once air lifted to hospital (up to the eyeballs on gas and air and utterly terrifying).

Gingaaarghpussy · 14/11/2020 22:17

Yes.
When I was 16 and my dad got a helicopter ride for my boyfriends birthday. We were in France.
It was one of those bubble ones. It was awesome but also freaked me out because heights are not my friend plus glass in-between me and the ground was hell.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/11/2020 22:23

Yes. We were helicoptered off an island because it was too stormy for the boat to come to take us home. Was really really cool, it was very James Bond esque. Loved every minute.

Respectthewater · 14/11/2020 22:30

Yes. Winched in and out of a Coastguard Sea King helicopter twice for training exercises. Amazing experience.

Crunchymum · 14/11/2020 22:33

Grand Canyon / Hoover Dam.

One of the most amazing things I've ever done.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 14/11/2020 22:37

Loads on the ground. Father Christmas used to come to school Christmas parties in a chinook (and the squadron ones in a fighter plane).
A couple in the air including a trip over the Rockies.

Campalumpa · 14/11/2020 22:44

Twice!

First time was when I fell walking in snowdonia and rather than crawling out a la Joe Simpson I called mountain rescue to help and they sent a helicopter. It flew down the valley with me still hanging from the winch rope - and clinging to the dashing RAF rescue man.

Second time I don’t remember as I was on morphine after a ski accident.

Pashazade · 14/11/2020 22:55

Twice, first time was the hop from Malta to Gozo and second was over New York for a friends birthday.

Smallwhiterat · 14/11/2020 22:58

Once as an airport to hotel transfer. Cool experience, but not something I wish to repeat for recreational purposes now I have far more awareness of how often they crash. Obviously a rescue or ambulance helicopter would be different.

Earslaps · 14/11/2020 22:58

Yes. A couple of times at a local event- went right over our house.

Then DH and I did a flight over the Franz Josef glacier in New Zealand, including a short landing at the top. We were backpacking at the time and used birthday money to pay for it. Worth every cent!

Chewbecca · 14/11/2020 22:58

Twice. Vegas strip and Alaska, landing on a glacier which was fabulous.
Bit nervier now I am older though and less keen now.

RelightMyPfizer · 14/11/2020 22:59

@TwoBlueFish

Yes, pleasure flight over New York about 20 years ago
So did we and a few days later was the crash-same company not sure if same helicopter
LER83 · 14/11/2020 23:01

Yes, once when I was about 10. We flew over Blackpool 😂 got a certificate and everything! I just remember being terrified!

user1471548941 · 14/11/2020 23:06

Done 2 on holidays! First was a birthday present from my parents, with my Dad to fly from Stavanger up over the Pulpit Rock as I had wanted to do the hike but we didn’t have time! This was somewhat more spectacular- the weather was so bad they gave us the option to cancel but we chose to continue and the clouds broke just as we arrived giving us amazing views over the rock and up the fjord.

Second time was with my fiance up a glacier in Alaska, with a landing up the top. The weather could not have been more perfect and it was completely magical, clear blue skies, white snow and a bright blue glacial lake.

Loved them both and they were entirely worth the money!

CoxwellHuge · 14/11/2020 23:06

Got married in a helicopter over the Vegas strip at night on New Year's Eve, was amazing

Davros · 14/11/2020 23:19

My Dad worked for a company that used a helicopter for transport but also to fly over large building sites. We went in it a good few times. It as brilliant, very cool as a teenager. They also had a private small aircraft, a King Air, which we went in too.

NatalieH2220 · 14/11/2020 23:21

Once. We flew over (and under) the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco on our honeymoon, was amazing!

GuiltyPleasure · 14/11/2020 23:28

Yes! 30 minute New York pleasure flight. I didn't think I'd love it, but I did. The whole thing was so smooth. I did face plant when I tripped over the landing skids as I was exiting though. That wasn't pretty!

MellieNelba · 14/11/2020 23:32

Quite a few times - and sort of abseiled out- not my finest moments . I was in the Army in Northern Ireland and it was how we patrolled and stopped suspicious cars.

MellieNelba · 14/11/2020 23:33

Oh and my sons can’t associate their old mom doing anything like that.

helloxhristmas · 14/11/2020 23:39

Yes several times. Dh went up with me on honeymoon and puked the whole through.

DuzzyFuck · 14/11/2020 23:39

Twice, local radio 'eye in the sky' traffic helicopter when I was a kid (knew the people who owned it) and New York pleasure flight as an adult. Loved them both but don't think I'd go up again now, I'm getting too scaredy in my old age!
