There were lots of great female singers form the 1980's.

Alanis Morisette was 1990's though ( I remember exactly which tree I sat under at Bletchley that year when she came on the radio) but still one of the best female singers in my opinion.

Turning back to the 1980's. We all cried for days at my work when we heard Karen Carpenter had died. Not known as mainstream 1980's as her main works were 1970's, but who can ever not be moved by Close To You. She died in the wings of that song.
