How often do you change your kitchen towel?

Trut · 11/11/2020 18:15

If you use it mainly for wiping hands (not dishes)?

And while we are at it, when do you replace your dish sponge...every week? Month? When it looks utterly manky 😃

And your toothbrush?

Kitchen towel daily, don’t use a sponge but cloths fo wiping down and they’re also changed daily.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 11/11/2020 18:19

I'll be honest because i don't give a shit 😂 Towel every other day, sponge when it starts falling apart...! Once a month perhaps? And toothbrush the same really, probably every 4-5 months??

Aquamarine1029 · 11/11/2020 18:19

Fresh kitchen towel and cloth brought out Every morning, will use another fresh one throughout the day if needed. I don't use sponges because they're disgusting.

Trut · 11/11/2020 18:22

Thanks for your replies. I now realise I am slovenly 😯

Why do you change your kitchen towel everyday?

Spun, I change my toothbrush every 4-5 months too! I plan to do it on the first of each month, but then I forget

Kitchen towel when it starts to look grubby and I remember.

Sponge, when I think it looks too grim to get away with.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/11/2020 18:25

Why do you change your kitchen towel everyday?

Because they get dirty. Confused

What's the point of washing your hands only to dry them on a dirty towel? Why clean off your worktop with a dirty towel?

BertieBotts · 11/11/2020 18:26

Toothbrush 3 months in theory, but I always forget.

Tea towel I have no idea, when it looks manky, which is most days. We use ours for all sorts so I sometimes go through multiple in a day.

I don't use washing up sponges because I think they are awful germ festering things. I use a cloth and it goes in the wash immediately. But we mainly use the dishwasher rather than washing up.

Smallsteps88 · 11/11/2020 18:27

Kitchen towel- daily
Kitchen cloth- fresh one each time in wipe up counters.
Toothbrush- every few months

onemouseplace · 11/11/2020 18:28

I have a separate kitchen towel to dry hands and a couple of tea towels to dry dishes on. Tea towels get changed when they either look dirty, or I'm putting a light wash on (so every 2-3 days).

cleanasawhistle · 11/11/2020 18:28

Use about 2 kitchen towels a day.

How dirty can a towel get in one day of drying clean hands? And surely you clean off your worktop with a cloth specifically used for that, not with the towel you use for drying your hands?
Trut · 11/11/2020 18:29

Do you change your hand towels in the bathroom too everyday?

Why did no one teach me this stuff?

I change towels when they look grubby and I remember. And dh changes the 🧽 when he remembers to get another one from the pantry. No system really yet.

Tea towel?
Every few days when I do a hot wash.
Ours is used for get stuff in and out of oven or drying hands, which are clean because they have just been washed.

AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2020 18:30

Kitchen towel, tea towel, wiping up cloth daily (I don't like sponges) daily, and oven gloves (well pan holders) every 2-3 days.

Trut · 11/11/2020 18:31

I can’t remember when I last washed our oven gloves!

Not surprised with that username Grin

At least there's one honest answer on this thread Grin This is my logic, too.
planningaheadtoday · 11/11/2020 18:32

I think I do things differently. My mum thinks I'm quite odd.

I use T towels, the type you wipe glass with, not the fluffier ones. I have about 50 and I use them as I would paper towels, kitchen sponge and paper kitchen towel.

For each job I use a new one and put it straight into my washing machine afterwards. I might get through up to 10 a day. Then I launder them and start over.

They are clean but nowhere near pristine. They are all very absorbent as they are washed do much. I keep them in a drawer in easy reach.

I've used this method for 20 years. I do use kitchen roll when frying food to absorb grease. But one roll will last 6 months in my house.

vanillandhoney · 11/11/2020 18:32

Tea towels and sponges both get charged daily. No point drying your hands or washing your dishes with dirty towels and sponges.

Trut · 11/11/2020 18:32

How do you wash small stuff like wine glasses, things you don’t put in the dishwasher? Is there an alternative to sponges and those awkward brushes?

OP posts:
woodhill · 11/11/2020 18:33

Kitchen towel twice a week and hand towels in bathroom weekly. Use separate tea towels and have a dishwasher

Trut · 11/11/2020 18:34

Planning, what’s a T towel?

OP posts:
AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2020 18:35

Also hand towels in the bathrooms daily but bath towels twice a week.

AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2020 18:47

Re the glasses - they all go in the dishwasher except awkward champagne flutes and lead Crystal which can go dull. I use just marigolded hands or baby bottle brush to clean them in warm soapy water, rinse and dry with a fresh glass tea towel.
