How often do you change your kitchen towel?

If you use it mainly for wiping hands (not dishes)?

And while we are at it, when do you replace your dish sponge...every week? Month? When it looks utterly manky 😃

And your toothbrush?

We put everything in the dishwasher. If it doesn't survive the dishwasher it doesn't belong in my house.

Surely t towel is just another way to spell tea towel

lockeddownandcrazy · 11/11/2020 18:52

everything goes in the dishwasher. kitchen towel for hands once a day change or more if its wet, sponge probably once a week. Toothbrush head when the pretty blue indicator has gone

ShopTattsyrup · 11/11/2020 18:53

Tea towel every couple of days (when it looks grubby) I just use it for getting stuff out of the oven or drying hands - all washing up just drip dries on the draining rack.

Washing up sponge - when it starts to fall apart.

J-cloth for wiping the sides - when it starts to fall apart or gets particularly manky ... I just use it to wipe anti-bac over a cleaned off surface so ... it's probably fine! Grin

Daily.
Sponge and brush go through the dishwasher.
Hand towels, dish cloths and tea towels go on a hot wash. I have loads so only put them in the wash weekly.
I am much more particular atm and we are washing our hands more.

cleanasawhistle · 11/11/2020 18:59

@Whatsnewpussyhat ...dont even ask how many dish clothes I use in one day lol

Smallsteps88 · 11/11/2020 19:06

At least there's one honest answer on this thread

I hate to break it to you but my answer is honest too.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 11/11/2020 19:06

We have a washing up sponge that is changed after a few weeks' use. A cloth for wiping the surfaces and is put to wash or changed anything from every other day to a few times a day depending on how many spills we have to wipe up! We have a tea towel and a hand towel and they're changed a couple of times a week.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 11/11/2020 19:07

And our toothbrushes last about 6 months or so.

It’s really not outrageous to wash cloths and hand towels daily. Why on earth would anyone lie about it??

Gifgif · 11/11/2020 19:12

I leave cloths soaking in disinfectant or bleach all the time and change towel every few days (usually because it falls of the hook onto the floor).

Trut · 11/11/2020 19:14

Gif, you change your kitchen towel when it falls on the floor? Do you have a 30 second rule at least? 😃

I wash the oven gloves whenever I see the dog licking them.

MoreHairyThanScary · 11/11/2020 19:15

We have many many many of the microfibres dishcloths from Lidl and change them at least daily. Tea towels we will have a couple out daily.

Sponges hold water and get manky quite quickly.

Do you not smell the towels if you don't change them?

movingonup20 · 11/11/2020 19:15

@Trut
I can't remember the last time I washed my oven gloves either, only when I spill stuff on them !

MyfanwyMontez · 11/11/2020 19:15

I change my tea towels daily and I sterilise my sponges in the microwave.

SummerHouse · 11/11/2020 19:16

Wow. I am grim. I am going to aspire to be better.

Side note: what's with all the kitchen towel refs - is it not always a tea towel???

WunWun · 11/11/2020 19:20

I have a separate tea towel and kitchen towel. One for hands and one for drying stuff. Neither for wiping surfaces Confused Some days they barely get used so I don't change them. But otherwise every day.

I wash sponges in the washing machine - flame away! I wash them every time they get used.

I rarely remember to change my toothbrush sooner than about 4-5 months.

OllysArmy · 11/11/2020 19:20

Mumsnet always shows me up with my poor hygiene
There is only me and DH at home now and I change all the towels once a week. There are more available in the cloakroom and kitchen so f a visitor fancies a new one they can. If I have visitors then I may get through a couple in a day.
At home I would say the kitchen towel gets used at most 4 times a day and sometimes the tea towel can go days without use.
The wiping sponge gets bleached weekly and the washing up sponge which again is used infrequently gets changed when it looks manky.
I don’t think I have ever washed oven gloves, I tend to buy a pair each year.
I also don’t change my bath towel after every use, wear my clothes until they are dirty and probably have other habits that don’t fit with mumsnet.

Audreyseyebrows · 11/11/2020 19:21

Tea towel and dishcloth daily

schoolcook · 11/11/2020 19:52

Tea towel about 5 times a day - I've seen the things my teenagers do with them EnvyEnvy

brokencrayons · 11/11/2020 19:54

Dish towel every day, sometimes twice a day. Cloths/sponges everyday and toothbrushes are monthly.

AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2020 23:04

I almost always get food on them, that's why I started using the little square 'pan holders'. I have a whole stack in the drawer and they can just be put in the wash when they get drips on them.

AlwaysLatte · 11/11/2020 23:07

For me a kitchen towel is a terry one for drying hands and a tea towel is a linen one just for drying glasses/dishes.

janetmendoza · 11/11/2020 23:50

Kitchen sponge changed hardly ever but bunged in dishwasher regularly. Tea towels twice a week but honestly I don't ever see anyone use them ever. Can't actually imagine when anyone would use them - for drying up expensive wine glasses maybe? Dunno, I never use them. Hand towels changed ever few days. But not always washed...sometimes just hung on the line if damp. For which I make no apologies.
