Has anyone gone for an eye test since Covid?

Or taken their DC?

OP posts:
Chaotica · 10/11/2020 11:27

No. But I need to and so do the DC, so I'm interested in replies.

Seeline · 10/11/2020 11:28

Do you mean since lockdown or since being ill with Covid?

Both my DCs had their routine eye checks over the summer. Opticians wore masks and visors. Kids wore masks.

NorksAreMessy · 10/11/2020 11:29

Sitting in the waiting room right now!
Everything sterile and safe feeling

Yes, I have been to Vision Express.

No different to normal really.

Usual sanitizer, masks, etc...

Was also given a basket when trying on glasses. Every pair I touched had to go in the basket, so they could be cleaned before going back on the shelf.

pepperminttaste · 10/11/2020 11:30

Yes, both.

It was absolutely fine. What do you want to know?

minipie · 10/11/2020 11:31

Yes I have. DC have too.

I wore mask throughout except when I needed to have glasses on as it made them fog up.

HerFlowersToLove · 10/11/2020 11:31

Yes I have. It was fine. I chose glasses online from Glasses Direct rather than from the shop. Cheaper, but also felt safer.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 10/11/2020 11:33

Yes, I've been (Boots) and taken DS (Specsavers) Both times have felt very safe, everyone in masks, keeping their distance etc.
With my test at Boots I think they mentioned that there were a couple of things that they couldn't test at the moment, which was fine with me as it was only a routine check up.

MrsMiaWallis · 10/11/2020 11:34

Yes, it was fine.

katcatkat · 10/11/2020 11:36

Yes I've taken both teens in the last few weeks masks on except when certain tests being done. Actually quicker and less waiting around than normal.
Wait to book tests were longer than normal.

LoungeLizardLhama · 10/11/2020 11:38

Yes dd and I went last week. We had to wait outside until there was room inside and got hand sanitiser at the door. Dd is only 9 so didn’t have to wear a mask but everyone else in there had masks and gloves on. The only tricky thing was the lenses getting steamed up from time to time. It all felt very safe.

DiscoMoo · 10/11/2020 11:39

Yes with Specsavers. It was as usual except we were all wearing masks. The only difference was that my contact lens check was done over the phone (!) so obviously they didn’t check the fit of my lenses but asked all the other questions. When I then had my eye test they said they were completing the lens check (although I was not wearing them), assuming checking the shape of my eyes had not changed.

CMOTDibbler · 10/11/2020 11:39

Yes, very efficient and safe

Viv0321 · 10/11/2020 11:43

Thanks everyone. Did your children try the glasses on and then have to have them adjusted by the optician? Just thinking about all the hand touching on the frames and ears etc.

OP posts:
TheSunIsStillShining · 10/11/2020 11:43

Yes, took teen. Small local optician.
They sterilized everything in front of us - it felt like routine not show. Masks, distance, disinfectant smell. And quick. We were in and out in 20 mins and the examination took 15 of that.

NoraNorth · 10/11/2020 11:48

Yes, local independent. They were encouraging having a photo done of back of eye (extra £20) rather than usual close up eye exam. Some steaming of lenses but otherwise OK.

AveEldon · 10/11/2020 11:49

yes taken DC to specsavers
had to wait outside - otherwise was almost as normal

dementedpixie · 10/11/2020 11:51

Dh and dd have been for one

MustardMitt · 10/11/2020 11:51

All three of my kids have had theirs at Boots.

Strict appointment booking only, masks, sanitiser etc.

Opticians were wearing a face shield as well as a mask, and used gloves when adjusting glasses on the face. Display glasses regularly sanitised and once tried on, go in a box rather than back out. They also called us the evening before to run through a Covid checklist.

Legoandloldolls · 10/11/2020 11:52

Yes, I have and been been into hospital to get them scanned as well

BoulangerieBabs · 10/11/2020 11:58

Yes I have and they were very strict about everything. Also went back to pick my new glasses up. Scary lady at the front desk quite literally barked at you to use the sanitiser, all felt perfectly safe.

lurkingfromhome · 10/11/2020 11:59

Yes. Optician and receptionist in scrubs rather than normal clothes. Receptionist cleaning door, windows, chair, all surfaces between customers. Had to knock on door to be allowed in. Optician wore mask but changed to full visor so that I could take off my mask when I was trying on different glasses. Totally safe.

itsgettingcoldoutside · 10/11/2020 12:10

No.

MangoM · 10/11/2020 12:14

I was due an eye test in June but haven't been yet. I'm still a little scared, but this thread is reassuring.

spiderlight · 10/11/2020 12:22

Yes, we all went to our local independent optician during half term. I wouldn't have risked missing the appointment because I'm at risk of two different genetic eye conditions that could both leave me blind. It was fine - we all wore masks, sanitised our hands on arrival, optician did his in front of us, the consulting room door was left open for ventilation, and when I had to choose a new frame, they were cleaned before and after I tried them on. Felt totally safe.
