Has anyone gone for an eye test since Covid?

Or taken their DC?

I understand Dominic Cummings has had an informal one (sorry couldn't resist!) Grin

Dd had a test over the summer, and needed new glasses. Optician and test itself was fine but the assistant we were assigned to choose new glasses had her mask under her nose, kept touching dd to adjust frames, asked me to take off my mask so she could hear me better (I didn’t, instead I repeated myself louder) and got the bill wrong. So I’ve put off my own eye test.

Yes at Specsavers. All fine as others mentioned. I'm a long-term customer and have a good idea what style glasses suit / fit. Think it would be annoying if it was your first time browsing and trying on frames.

RayOfSunshine2013 · 10/11/2020 12:38

Yea, no different to usual other than they attack you with sanitiser on entry and suggest you wear a mask.

Iheartmysmart · 10/11/2020 12:38

I went to Specsavers. It was a bit shambolic as far as queuing outside went but once actually inside it was fine. Be prepared for it to take much longer than usual though. I was there for over two hours and had to go back three times for adjustments to my frames.

superhauntedvagina · 10/11/2020 12:39

Yes, DS has had a test and new glasses. He tried on frames and had them fitted. Optician was in full PPE and sanitised her hands.

Lindy2 · 10/11/2020 12:41

Yes. I was nervous but I have a family history of glaucoma so I didn't want to delay my appointment any longer.

It was ok. Everyone wore masks and there was a perspex screen between me and the optition when we were using various bits of equipment.

It did feel strangely close - it's been a long time since anyone outside my household has been that near to me, but I felt fairly safe. A couple of times I was asked to pull my mask down so it wasn't on my nose because I was steaming up the equipment and they couldn't see what they needed to. That felt very odd but it was only for a brief moment.

BikeRunSki · 10/11/2020 12:43

Yes, masks sanitiser etc.
I was the only person to touch the frames I tried on. All the frames I tried on were put aside until I’d decided which ones I wanted, then sanitised by the assistant before going back on display. When I picked my glasses up, to adjust them the assistant was wearing a face shield and fresh gloves. I was wearing a mask. On both visits, they had one customer in the eyetest area, and one in the showroom bit.

Or going to wait?

Yup Specsavers. V well organised. Rang me the day before to tell me how it was going to work, what I thought I might need, etc. Very thorough. On the day, I had to wait at the door a mo, while they checked it was clear for me to go in. Test seemed pretty much as usual. Because I had already told them I like ‘bendy’ specs (wear them on top of my head a lot!) they already had a selection for name to look and try on in the cubicle. Made a decision v quickly. Said they could mail them or I could pick them up. Worked really well.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/11/2020 13:16

Yes & with spec savers and they were brilliant.

I had no choice as legally I needed them for driving (or I wouldn't have).

They wiped them before & after I tried each pair on.

I need to go back, but I'm going to wait a while which might not be a smart move, not sure.

I'm having a retinopathy exam soon. (Diabetic eye check). Not so keen on getting that done (only because of covid, I'm usually happy to have it done) but I'll just have to hope for the the best I guess.

I'd take the kids if I thought they needed a test/new glasses - but not just fir their annual check 🤷🏻‍♀️

WhoWants2Know · 10/11/2020 13:19

I went to Specsavers at the same time as my oldest. Very secure and good practices. When the specs came in, we also needed to book for an appointment to have them fitted, so that a member of staff in full PPE was available to adjust them. It was actually a nice experience.

Jocasta2018 · 10/11/2020 13:35

I had my annual check up last Saturday. I called the optician (Specsavers) on Monday & they had spaces all week!
We all wore masks & I saw everything disinfected before & after me - I felt very safe.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/11/2020 13:58

Yes, I went to Specsavers the day they opened in June! Very safe and only a couple of customers in at once
Have also been to Hospital eye clinic

ILoveYoga · 10/11/2020 14:09

Not rye, but hearing - inside spec savers. In fact I had to go in three times so saw people getting their eye exams and choosing glasses. Was very safe. Appointments only. Restricted numbers, all staff in PPE and lots of sanitising going on

ExclamationPerfume · 10/11/2020 14:17

I took my daughter for one. I am ECV they only allow one customer in at a time. Every pair we tried on they kept to one side and disinfected them. It was fine and I felt safe. Everyone wore masks.

Viv0321 · 10/11/2020 17:27

I honestly can’t believe it. Tried on glasses and the women put them straight back on to the shelf!! I’m disgusted!!

She repeatedly reassured us that they are put in to a box and sanitised!

We vulnerable too!

DC will need to go soon, so I’m going to book as normal. I’m sure it’s safe and clean. It’s an independent eye clinic, normally v clean. We went 2 weeks before 1st lockdown and new practices has come in then, so no reason to think it isn’t safe.
