Does anyone own or tried a weighted blanket for anxiety and stress?

How have you found them, do they work?
Any recommendations?

I love mine. I've got a Koala blanket, my sleep is definitely better.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 09/11/2020 19:27

@Nackajory do you just use it for sleep or anxiety to?
I’ll have a look at the koala blanket, I’ve seen a John Lewis one but it’s pricey so wanted to see if it actually helps first Smile

Ooh I didn’t know they could help with restless legs.... interesting, verrrry interesting. My right leg drives me mad sometimes and I love a nice blanket anyway...

LadyCatStark · 09/11/2020 19:41

Mine helps a lot. When I’m under it, I think on nothing, literally nothing. Which is amazing when I’m used to my mind racing!

LadyCatStark · 09/11/2020 19:42

@MoiraRoseVibes mine does not help with my restless legs though 🙈 running does though...

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/11/2020 19:44

Absolutely love mine. So does ds1 who has pinched it. Mines from Gravity Blanket.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 09/11/2020 19:51

@MoiraRoseVibes having hot legs makes my RLS worse not sure if the blanket might make them worse?
Are they hot?
@LadyCatStark I’m terrible atm, I work in the NHS and need something to help me decompress Sad
Will have a look at gravity blanket too!

I tried one last year from QVC under their 30 day money back guarantee - could not get on with it at all, I felt like I was pinned down.

LillyBugg · 09/11/2020 19:55

I got a cheap one from The Works (don't think they have any right now) and I specifically got it for anxiety. I found it really helps, mine comes on in the evening so sitting on the sofa with it is lovely when I can feel the trembles start to come on. It's nice to have a physical thing to turn to, if that makes sense?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/11/2020 19:56

Mines not too hot. Its very thin. I got it with the 'summer' cover which is cotton on one side and fleecy type stuff on the other so you can flip it depending on how hot/cold it is. I actually use the cotton side all year round but hate being too warm at night (I'm still sleeping with a fan on)

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 09/11/2020 19:57

Love mine which is Mela. The weight should be about a 10% of your body weight.

DianaT1969 · 09/11/2020 19:58

People with restless leg probably already take a magnesium supplement, or have an Epsom salts bath/footbath. On MN it's often mentioned as a solution that works.

louise4745 · 09/11/2020 19:58

Myself and 2 dds got one each this week from Amazon

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 09/11/2020 20:04

@LillyBugg makes perfect sense Smile

@IamnotaStepfordHousewife I’ll need a forklift to lift it Grin

Mine helps me with restless legs. It also has the hot/cold cover which is great. I just love it.

Audreyhelp · 09/11/2020 20:22

I love mine it’s too heavy for the bed.
As soon as I put it over me I feel calm and rested.
Great for my grandchildren it tends to keep them all still on the sofa and they are calm it’s weird .

HundredMilesAnHour · 09/11/2020 20:26

I have a Mela that is 10% of my bodyweight (as recommended) but I've not find it at all helpful unfortunately. I'm very disappointed.

Haggisfish · 09/11/2020 20:41

Mine is more than 10% but not all
Of it is on me at any one time. I love it. I’d have heavier if I could.

Sexykitten2005 · 09/11/2020 20:50

I have a mela and love it. I had restless sleep and would wake several times a night and not be able to get to sleep. Now I sleep right through and fall asleep much quicker. They say 10% but I got the heaviest largest one they do and it’s perfect.

AcornAutumn · 09/11/2020 20:52

I have anxiety and insomnia and am interested in this, but how do you clean it? I suppose it’s best to put it in a duvet cover?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 09/11/2020 20:56

Mine came with a removable, washable cover. Its also standard single bed size so I can buy cheap covers for it. (The branded ones are about £60). When I bought mine a lot of the cheaper ones were weird sizes and didn't come with removable covers so you had to pay for their special ones. There are a lot more available now, and cheaper than mine was.
AcornAutumn · 09/11/2020 20:58

Thanks Former

I also live in a very hot flat....it sounds mad but I think it might overheat me. If I get one, it will be QVC in case I want to return it.

Duckwit · 09/11/2020 20:59

I am interested in these, how do they help with stress/anxiety, what's the thinking behind it?

DartmoorChef · 09/11/2020 21:00

I got one off DP for Xmas last year. I wouldn't be without it. I even take it with me when we go fishing and I sleep so well. Mine is a senso rex and it was about £200. It has a removable cover and i love it.
