Does anyone own or tried a weighted blanket for anxiety and stress?

How have you found them, do they work?
Any recommendations?

@AcornAutumn

Thanks Former

I also live in a very hot flat....it sounds mad but I think it might overheat me. If I get one, it will be QVC in case I want to return it.

Mines cooler than a duvet. Closer to my thin cheap fleece blankets.

Former good to know, thanks.

Dartmoor I have this image of you as asleep by the river with a fishing rod clamped to your hand Grin

We’ve got one of these, very impressed with the quality considering the price!

@AcornAutumn that's pretty accurate 😂😂😂

I got one for dd who was having constant night terrors. It stopped them.

It’s from gravity

fairydustandpixies · 09/11/2020 21:25

I couldn't be without mine now. I even had it on during the heatwave but it's never made me hot. He weight is so comforting and has helped with my insomnia. Can't remember the make of mine but it's a double one from Amazon, cost £80. It's an 8kg one. I put it in a separate duvet cover and put that on top of my actual duvet.

Chairlove · 09/11/2020 21:38

I got one last week. It was 9k which is more than 10% of my weight. The lowest weight was less. I loved it the first few nights, but struggling to sleep with it now.

I think it’s because I wrap myself up in my duvet and I can’t with this as it’s too heavy. Trialling it only over my lower half.

Randomly the cat loves sleeping in it. It’s turned into an expensive cat blanket

They are not designed to be used all night. They are supposed to be used as an aid during waking hours to calm and ease anxiety, to be wrapped around the body or if that's uncomfortable, sometimes a lap pad is recommended.

It's really worthwhile reading up on what they should be used for, how they should be used and which weight is suitable for your specific needs.

Like other things these days, they started out as a therapeutic aid tailored to an individual's needs, then word spread and they are now "trendy" and most manufacturers and sellers are just in it for the profit.

Well I fall asleep quicker with mine on and can't take it off once I'm asleep!

I do agree about making sure you have the right weight and stuff though. You also shouldn't share one so if you have a double one your DP shouldn't also be under it.

I love mine, helps with anxiety & I definitely sleep a lot better with it. I wouldn’t be without it now. It was a gift so I’m not sure where it was from but was quite expensive. I got one for DD and she’s not so keen so they’re certainly not for everyone.

mrsbyers · 09/11/2020 22:26

Amazing sleep with my koala , few of my friends have invested in one too

AcornAutumn · 09/11/2020 22:35

There can’t be a problem with being under it all night

Probably most of us have woken up with a bloke asleep on us and they weigh a lot more Grin

My son swears by the koala blanket after a lifetime of insomnia

madeleinetheragdoll · 09/11/2020 23:12

My son who is 13 has one and we got it after 12 months of poor sleeping. It's been a total game changer and he said he finds he doesn't feel as stressed.

OrigamiOwl · 10/11/2020 04:07

I've got a Koala blanket and I would really recommend it.
