What do/dont you love about your house?

Just a bit of nosy fun!

I love our kitchen! It's nothing fancy, quite country style with butchers block worktops and a Belfast sink. Its brightly coloured but also cosy and welcoming and has a little room leading off it with a fire in. I could sit in there all day!

Dislike - Not been here long enough to have any massive ones but we are fairly close to a noisy road that I can hear in the garden when its wet/the wind blows the wrong way.

What's yours?

I just wish mine was detached!

DotTheCaddy · 09/11/2020 19:16

No clue how this ended up in relationships! Have reported and asked for it to be moved.

I love our South facing sitting room with a bay window. Even on glum days it is bright and cheery.

I don't love how overlooked the garden is.

bloodywhitecat · 09/11/2020 19:40

It's old, it's ramshackle and it's probably falling down slowly but we love it, there is no logic to the layout and, if it were ours, we would have some rooms rejigged to give us more space but it always feels like home when we walk across the threshold.

FredtheFerret · 09/11/2020 19:41

I love the size of it (huge, Victorian detached ex vicarage).

I don't love how my roof leaks, how damp it is and how much work needs doing.

Krazynights34 · 09/11/2020 19:51

I fucking hate our new (old, not been updated since built) bungalow. Damp issues, housing estate with terrible pavements everywhere and people park half on the kerb so I have to lug my DD (heavy disability buggy) into the road etc. It’s sooo quiet and I hate that, very overlooked by 2 story houses.
We are hoping to extend but every day I wish I could just walk away

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 09/11/2020 19:53

Love - very old, fireplace, beams, pretty, big bathroom, big garden
Hate - bloody maintaining an old house, oil heating, chilly, bit small for us

Bettina500 · 09/11/2020 19:57

I like my road as it's quiet and safe, I like the fact we're detached, have off-road parking, a garage and en suite (never thought we would have these things.)

I dislike the town, our garden as it's not flat and there's road noise. We also need more space and an extra bedroom.

PrincessBuggerPants · 09/11/2020 20:00

I like my large dual aspect living room and lots of storage.

I don't like the fact it is a bit too small to 'grow into' and we may have to move in 5-10 years.

Lazysundayafternoons · 09/11/2020 20:02

I love the location of our house. We have an amazing view of the mountains and every day it looks different depending on the weather. On sunny days we see the full mountain range, rainy days we might only see the lower part and lots of cloud, on foggy days you can see the fog down low like a blankets but can still see the mountain peaks above the fog.

I love the peace and quiet here, there are about 12 detached houses here.

I love settling down in the evenings beside the stove.

I hate that the house is too small and we have no storage space.

I hate that the garden is so small.

I hate that we dont have proper heating and have to use electric heaters.

chunkyrun · 09/11/2020 20:02

I love the area! It's really nice for families, good schools and lots of open spaces. Cons it's a very small housing association new build. Think they built them as small as legally possible. Would love to buy around here one day

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/11/2020 20:07

I love my big kitchen, my walk in pantry, the sensible layout of all rooms leading off a central hallway and the huge driveway with tons of parking. We’ve done a lot to it now, decorated it, had all the horrible artexed ceilings skimmed and it looks lovely.

I don’t like the fact that it’s quite a new house, I’d prefer an older property but at least it doesn’t need too much maintenance. I also don’t like the way our neighbours house sits much higher than ours and blocks out the evening sun. And all their massive trees that enclose our garden. There’s quite a nice view the other side.

purrswhileheeats · 09/11/2020 20:08

Mine's got a view of the Med so I love it. It's at the top of a hill so fantastic for sea breezes during the summer months but it's a draughty ice box in January and February 🥶🥶🥶

happyascarrie · 09/11/2020 20:08

Love the location and views (farm surrounded by field and forest)
Loathe the dodgy avocado green bathroom suites (being replaced soon if we get 5 minutes without roofs caving in or windows falling out), constant upkeep and creaky pipes at night

Thighdentitycrisis · 09/11/2020 20:10

Love the light in the upstairs living room
Hate the plasterboard internal walls
Love the location - central London with quiet ish back garden
Hate the lack of storage
Big bathroom, quiet neighbours (mostly)
Kitchen needs refitting and could be bigger

shrill · 09/11/2020 20:11

Love that we have a roof over our heads especially with winter coming now.

Hate how much it costs to maintain it properly. Always another thing to spend money on and getting tradespeople who are really capable
of doing a good job from start to finish.

MoreHairyThanScary · 09/11/2020 20:14

Love the location
Love ufh ( retro fitted and only turned on last week)
Love the light and space ( moved from a gorgeous but small cottage 4 years ago)
Lovely views

Dislike the amount of work still left to do like doors on the en-suite and bedroom ! And dealing with the mud pit that is the garden and lots and lots of decorating.

arewethere · 09/11/2020 20:14

I love my house. The only thing I might have wanted to change was to have a bit more space to the side, it's barely wide enough for the path.

Could never therefore extend this house but then I don't need to but it's a bit of a narrow plot because of that.

But as I say I love this house and hope I only leave in a box as I'm happy to spend the rest of my life here. It's only my second home too.

SilenceOfThePrams · 09/11/2020 20:21

I love that it’s more mine than it is the bank’s now. And I love my bedroom. And the garden.

I dislike the parking, bits of the layout, and the general state of it (needs new pain and floors. Won’t be getting either).

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 09/11/2020 20:21

Love that we are close to the woods for walks. Love that the house is warm.

Hate a lot of other things. Mostly the wooden worktops in the kitchen. Hate the layout. Hate that there is only 1 door so the front door is at the back of the house. Hate that there is not enough space and storage.

This was DPs house when I moved in. Can’t wait to move and have more space!

Alidalivali · 09/11/2020 20:23

I love our cul-de-sac, our neighbours, our homely house, our neat pretty walled garden. I love our huge sunny upstairs landing.

I don't like that the bedrooms aren't quuiiiiite big enough for true comfort or decent sized furniture, the kitchen isn't quuiiiiite big enough to be a kitchen diner, the garage isn't integral so I have to go out in the rain to use the tumble drier, and there's not enough room in the kitchen for a dishwasher.

We're talking about moving away, but sometimes I think I'd miss its "almost enough" charm.

Your house sounds similar to mine. The view from my kitchen and living rooms across the fields past the woods and over to the mountains is breathtaking and can change so much just over the course of a day. I love having a big garden with mature trees around the edges and I love being so rural.

I don’t live that the kitchen and living room get too hot and too bright on sunny days. I had a Halloween party a few years ago, cold outside but sunny. It got so hot that the candles on the table looked like limp willies but it was too windy to have the patio open to cool the room down and I hate that the house is relatively modern as I much prefer Victorian or older properties. The enormous avocado sunken bathroom suite has gone from being the thing we most wanted rid of to the thing I most want to keep though.

I also hate that there aren’t any other kids living here since both ds’s best friends moved away.

I love love love that I can have a cat now we live out of town Smile

What do/dont you love about your house?
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/11/2020 20:51

I love that I have a utility. I hate that I don't have much outside space.

Franticbutterfly · 09/11/2020 20:58

I love that we finally have a house that is big enough for all of the family, and a lovely big kitchen. I hate that the extension done by the former owners wasn't done with light in mind (something I would have prioritised) and our north facing kitchen is really quite dark. We hope to reconfigure the downstairs of the house at some point.

JoJoSM2 · 09/11/2020 21:07

@LoungeLizardLhama

Love your view!

I love my house as it’s big, bright and done to my taste.
