What do/dont you love about your house?

Just a bit of nosy fun!

I love our kitchen! It's nothing fancy, quite country style with butchers block worktops and a Belfast sink. Its brightly coloured but also cosy and welcoming and has a little room leading off it with a fire in. I could sit in there all day!

Dislike - Not been here long enough to have any massive ones but we are fairly close to a noisy road that I can hear in the garden when its wet/the wind blows the wrong way.

What's yours?

I love the location, the space, my wildlife garden.
My favorite thing is the kichen/diner/living room. It has a log burner in the middle and is so cosy with a massive comfy sofa.
I hate the upstairs shower room tiles. It's going to be revamped next year.

I love the location - near lots of woods and green open spaces but also lots of amenities. Sometimes I hanker after a rural idyll but in reality for us, life is easier in suburbia. I like the size of our house, especially now that we’ve extended into the attic, I love our big open plan kitchen - diner which is ace in non covid times for lots of friends and kids. We have fab neighbours too.

Not so keen on the small damp family bathroom. Whatever we do to it the damp and condensation come back. Also wish that the living room was slightly bigger so we could have a chimney breast, fire place and alcoves. All this got ripped out by a previous owner - space wise it does make sense but I do love a fire place!!

Most of all though, I’m beyond grateful that we have a safe roof over our heads. That’s something I will (hopefully) always be thankful for.

Quiet street
Good neighbours
One of the nicer parts of our average little town
Our bedroom is big
We have a huge driveway and side plot
Aforementioned side plot means we have a very private garden
Mortgage is tiny

It’s small
The bathroom is off the kitchen
It’s only about 5m back from the pavements

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/11/2020 21:43

Oh I forgot about our hideous bathroom. It truly is awful. It was going to be the first thing to go when we moved in and we’ve now done almost everything but the bathroom. Turquoise walls with dolphin stencilling anyone?

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/11/2020 22:01

I love that it’s in the hustle and bustle of central London and I have everything in my doorstep (outside of lockdown, at least); I love that it’s easily warmed and I can clean the whole place within a couple of hours. I love that so many of my friends live within striking distance. I love my view of the London skyline and the sound of the traffic in the near-distance.

People can never believe I sold a gorgeous huge listed converted church with full stained glass windows in the middle of the Scottish countryside to come back to live in my little ex/council flat in the middle of the Smoke. I can’t explain why I love it here, but I do.

I dislike the lack of storage; although this is probably a blessing in disguise as it prevents me from accumulating things I shouldn’t.

VenusClapTrap · 09/11/2020 22:09

Am I allowed to say I love my decor? Grin After living with the previous owners hideous carpets and curtains for the past eight years I am ecstatic about choosing my own.

I hate that we have giant cardinal spiders living in the roof tiles. I love all the other wildlife - the bats are welcome as is the toad who resides in the cellar; I can turn a blind eye to the odd mouse (usually brought in very much alive by dcat) and the rats on the compost heap don’t bother me. But those goddamn spiders dropping through the skylights - OMFG the size of them!

Gertie75 · 09/11/2020 22:11

I love that it's big, with tons of storage and is individually built so doesn't look like every other house.

I hate the street, there's an estate at the top end and the main road at the bottom which although we don't get road noise it's used as a cut through.

I love the quirkiness, it's been extended over the years and has lots of rooms, the kids are always playing hide and seek.

I hate that because of its size every job is expensive.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/11/2020 22:14

I love the village we live in and the quirky character of the cottage. Like a PP there's a fair amount we would do if it was ours, and I quietly suspect that before long it would become a money pit.

I hate the fact we have no real garden, and while we have a decent log burner this is our only form of heating so expensive and labour intensive particularly as DH is a gas engineer

PickAChew · 09/11/2020 22:16

Love the living space - big but not village hall sized kitchen diner plus 2 decent sized reception rooms. It's quirky. 3 double bedrooms (though wish the master was bigger) Love that we can walk out of the door and into town or the shopping centre in less than half an hour or local shops right on our doorstep.

The main road we're on has its perks but can also get busy and noisy and can be difficult to cross or get in or off our drive.

And the house is a bloody money pit!

MotherWol · 09/11/2020 22:17

It’s rented, but it’s under the market rate, which means we can afford to live in a location that suits us. It’s a big flat, on a quiet street, nice neighbours, very convenient. I love not being responsible if the boiler breaks or the washing machine packs in. It’s warm and well insulated.

The flat itself is so magnolia and boring. It has no character, and sometimes it feels quite studenty. The carpets are knackered and it all needs fresh paint. I’m glad we can’t have guests over, I’m ashamed of how tired and shabby it all looks!

PetNameChange · 09/11/2020 22:19

I love everything about my house!

It’s location (middle of nowhere)
It’s size could do with another bedroom but I’m happy enough one day we will afford an extension
The garden - it’s beautiful if hard work
The walks which are a minutes walk away
I love my open fire
I love the size of my kitchen

Chicchicchicchiclana · 09/11/2020 22:23

Mostly like the location.

Love the view from the front gate (panorama of London).

Love the size of it ... nice big rooms.

Hate the lack of downstairs loo or utility room.

Hate the fact that it still needs work done on things like damp and the roof even though we've been here 16 years.

Hate that it's mid terrace with no access to huge garden (which needs lots of maintenacne work) without traipsing through the house.

Not so keen on the deep but narrow layout of a Victorian terrace now. Going to move on to something completely different, preferably 60s build, when we sell up.

Chewbecca · 09/11/2020 22:36

Love our location - detached at the end of a cul de sac - it’s very quiet.
Love the garden, faces NW but gets loads of light and sun, moving round during the day. Barely overlooked too.
Love that it is warm and comfortable, we’ve decorated / furnished for comfort, not fashion.
Love my downstairs study where I can wfh and shut the door at the end of the day.
Love the big driveway so we never have to contemplate parking issues.

Very happy in our home!

LauraBassi · 09/11/2020 22:41

Cons - The fact the rest of my family live in it.

Pros - it’s in a beautiful spot by the water. Very quiet. Barges go up and down. At 41 I know I will never move because I feel safe here.

Bubbletrouble43 · 09/11/2020 22:53

I love my patio doors from lounge to garden, and I love my garden and I love looking out of my patio doors at it. I just bloody love my patio doors. I hate my hallway as it's dark and gas no natural light.

Fanciedachange1 · 10/11/2020 12:35

Love: wood burner in the winter which makes the home feel cozy. Location - walking distance to work, decent sized garden, large living room window which makes a hot spot for the dog to stretch out in front of!

Hate: kitchen. So small, not a lot of natural light and currently has dated cupboards that are gradually falling apart. It’s also hard to keep clean due to it being quite old, the fire etc sometimes i wish we had gone for a new build.

Sheknowsaboutme · 10/11/2020 18:44

Love:

Wonky walls
300 yrs old
Stunning huge inglenook
Family history
Location-very rural

Dislike:

Cold walls -stone cottage. Hate it when cooking in the kitchen.

That is all!

SusannaSpider · 10/11/2020 18:58

I love the Victorian aspects to it - the high ceilings, architraves, fireplaces, the dining room with bookcases and lots of books, I love the staircase and curb appeal. The lounge is nice in Summer, South facing with big bay window.

I hate, hate the upkeep, the painted exterior which is looking shabby yet again, the cold as it's draughty and expensive to heat, the constant renovation. The kitchen, which is cold and North facing. The road which is busy and noisy. Basically the house is too big for us and we can't afford it, we bought it in better financial times (before redundancy and now lower paying jobs). We will sell as soon as we can get it looking OK, but it will be a while yet and I'm so fed up.

Serena1977 · 10/11/2020 19:01

Love our new kitchen and bathroom. Love that we have put a lot of work into it and feel proud. Love that it is easy to get warm quickly.

Would love one more room downstairs. Dont like that we are overlooked in the garden by neighbours easily.

MiniTheMinx · 10/11/2020 19:02

Like the fact its in a historic town with cobbled and brick lanes and paths. Lots of antique shops, old pubs and a ruin of a very large priory. Oh, and a river.

Love that I have a view of the castle and the downs.

Hate that it needs so much work, its a bomb site at the moment. Its got a bit more character than my last house but its bloody cold too.

bloggeryblog · 10/11/2020 19:30

Love-Cosy feel. Large sitting room. Garden.
Dislike-lack of parking outside. The fact that my bedroom does not have a ceiling light.
