Do your family wear different Xmas pjs and jumpers Every year?

OP posts:
CodenameVillanelle · 09/11/2020 05:07

DS gets a new pair of pyjamas on Christmas Eve but they aren't Christmas themed. I bought him one Christmas jumper in year one for the Christmas show and he wore it every year until he left! It started off too big then it was too small but for two days a year he coped

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 09/11/2020 05:15

Mine get Christmas PJ’s every year but it’s not like they wear them Christmas Eve and then never again! They need new pj’s anyway so why not make them Christmas themed? They get passed down, worn all year yada yada too

We get Christmas pj’s when the last ones wore through, prob every 5yrs or so?

PostTummyTuck · 09/11/2020 05:39

My kids get Xmas jumpers and pjs every year but tend to wear the jumpers from November onwards and the pjs all year. My older 2 are adults now so will wear the same jumpers each year.

Pjs yes. They might be Christmas themed, they might not. But the children do get new pjs on Christmas Eve. Christmas jumpers depends on if the last years jumper still fits the child. If it does, they wear it, if it doesn't they get a hand me down or a new one. I got my first ever Christmas jumper last year. Dh the year before.

movingonup20 · 09/11/2020 06:28

Er no because they aren't 5. Can't stand nightwear myself anyway. I wear nice clothes on Christmas Day not a jumper

CanICelebrate · 09/11/2020 06:33

I don’t get the ‘Christmas Eve’ tradition of PJs and goodies - I’m sure this didn’t happen when my older dc were little. Mine have nice pjs that I just buy throughout the year as they are needed.

Mine do have some what I’d call ‘less tacky Christmas jumpers’ from fat face / superdry etc which they hand down to each other for Christmas jumper day at school. My teens do like wearing tacky Christmas stuff on Christmas Day too now so I bought a couple more last year from Asda!

WunWun · 09/11/2020 06:33

No, I'm another one who thinks it's wasteful. If I bought myself a new pair of pyjamas every year I'd have a house full of them unless I threw the old ones away.

My nine year old doesn't wear them so I definitely wouldn't buy them every year.

KatherineJaneway · 09/11/2020 06:33

No.

CanICelebrate · 09/11/2020 06:34

I have one nice and quite expensive Christmas jumper that I wear every year, usually to school on the last day of term!

Benjispruce2 · 09/11/2020 06:36

No. None of us own Christmas jumpers or Christmas PJs.

CanICelebrate · 09/11/2020 06:36

My husband also has a few fat face Christmas T-shirts that I’ve bought over the years cheap in the sales in January! He never wears them and now my teenagers have them as hand me downs

Angel2702 · 09/11/2020 06:47

No we have bags and bags of Christmas clothes. They get passed through my own DC and then to my nieces and nephews. We don’t do matching pjs or jumpers they are all different.

zigaziga · 09/11/2020 06:53

All the kids’ Christmas jumpers that I’ve bought have been bought second hand. Even then, I only tend to buy for the oldest and obviously the youngest them inherits them.
It’s a bit of a shame as my oldest refused to wear any of the ones I got for him at 2 and 3 years old so hopefully the youngest will wear them.

My jumper was new but is on something like it’s 10th year now.

I bought cheap PJs for us all one year (when we were only 3 of us not 4) and in retrospect it was a massive waste and none of us liked them anyway. Bought a set (new) last year for DC1 as was a wear Christmas pyjamas to school day but they were a bit big so they’ll be re-worn this year and then handed down too.

zigaziga · 09/11/2020 07:00

@GooseberryTart

I love christmas and have teens now. But no nor do we have christmas duvets and we didn’t christmas eve boxes or elf on the shelf these are much more recent trends. That are all plastered over instagram and facebook.
Yes I’m with this.

I love Christmas (and I’ve started playing Christmas music already and it’s making 2020 much better) but I like doing Christmas activities with my children that are what I used to do or DH, and probably half of them things my parents were doing when they were young.

We do all wear Christmas jumpers but non matching and re-worn and handed down for many years so no particular guilt there.

NaughtipussMaximus · 09/11/2020 07:01

DS gets new Xmas pjs every other year as the previous year’s new ones usually fit the next year and up to now he’s been too little to notice they’re not new when he opens the Xmas eve box! Same with Xmas jumpers - he only really wears it a few times so I like to make them last.

We don’t wear Xmas pjs or jumpers, we do sometimes get pjs for Xmas but not themed ones.

badlydrawnbear · 09/11/2020 07:01

They have Christmas jumpers because the school usually has a Christmas jumper day. DC2 usually wears DC1's old ones.
They get new pyjamas on Christmas Eve. An elf drops them off while we are at church usually. But they are not usually Christmas-themed, and I would have had to buy them at some other point in the year otherwise.
DH and I do not have either.

Ginfordinner · 09/11/2020 07:02

No

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 09/11/2020 07:04

Kids grow fast so I usually size up and give them on 1st dec and hope to get 2 years out of them before buying again. The youngest gets hand me downs too from the older one aswell so no waste

SushiGo · 09/11/2020 07:05

If they are young and still growing a lot then it doesn't really matter if you buy new Christmas pjs and jumpers every year, they will get worn just as much as every other item of clothing.

We normally buy new PJs (not Christmas themed) but new jumpers only after a few years when definitely outgrown as they don't get worn a lot.

noodlezoodle · 09/11/2020 07:08

No because I'm an actual person and not an instagram influencer.

StickTheKettleOnAlice · 09/11/2020 07:09

I bought myself a new christmas jumper this year and I love it. It is the 4th I've bought since they first became a thing again. I wear them all through December every year and they actually get worn more than some of my regular clothes! I love them and feel like it's time I got myself some new Christmas pjs too (again they will be worn every year so hardly a waste)

megletthesecond · 09/11/2020 07:10

No.
I buy Xmas jumpers in a charity shop if I can find nice ones.

We don't have Xmas pj's.
They do have Xmas duvet covers, but they'll last for literally ever.

Ragwort · 09/11/2020 07:13

No ! Can't imagine my DH ever wearing a Christmas jumper ..
I do have one from a charity shop that I get out each year but wouldn't wear it on Christmas Day. None of us have ever had Christmas pyjamas.

OhTheRoses · 09/11/2020 07:17

No!

reluctantbrit · 09/11/2020 07:35

No. DD is luckily old enough not to need a new one each year.

I have a Christmas sleep shirt since 4 years now, only bought it as I needed something long sleeve but hate normal pyjamas.
