Do your family wear different Xmas pjs and jumpers Every year?

We each get a new pair of PJ'S each year, (not Xmas themed) but they're worn all year and I rarely rarely buy PJ's the rest of the year. T-shirt and Jumpers that are Xmas themed come out every year and don't get enough wear to ever need replacing.

sunshineandshowers21 · 08/11/2020 19:33

we all get new christmas pyjamas (but we wear them all year, even if they have snowflakes or christmas trees on) but the kids wear jumpers until they don’t fit and then they get passed on to younger family members.

Simplyunacceptable · 08/11/2020 19:33

I get them a new pair of pjs on Christmas Eve but they’re not usually Christmas related so they wear them all year. This year I bought the ribbed Zara ones for example, not Christmassy but all matching and cute.

Xmas jumpers it depends if last years still fit really. I tend to hand them down though so only need to buy for the eldest.

The whole Christmas jumper as a thing makes me laugh, it all started as a pisstake of awful hand knitted misshapen jumpers you'd get with ugly patterns in the 80s. People started wearing them "ironically" on purpose and then this idea came in to make them actually Christmas themed rather than just ugly 80s knitting pattern jumper. Now it's more about the Christmas theme than the ugly jumper and everyone has forgotten the original point :o

No, I don't get the DC Christmas (or Halloween) themed clothing at all unless it comes as part of a second hand bundle. I don't get it, it seems wasteful.

Did new pjs on Christmas eve a few years but not too bothered about it as a tradition tbh. Maybe when DS2 is a bit older.

marthastew · 08/11/2020 19:36

Nope. I flipping hate that Christmas jumper day fund raising thing. Bah humbug!

SocialBees · 08/11/2020 19:39

No.

Cocopogo · 08/11/2020 19:40

New pjs yes, jumper no

DPotter · 08/11/2020 19:40

No

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 08/11/2020 19:42

Yes we get new PJs, not Christmassy ones, and we wear them all year round

MsSquiz · 08/11/2020 19:42

I get new Christmas pyjamas every December but I wear them throughout the year.
Christmas jumpers I often get a new one, but donate my old ones to charity

FourTeaFallOut · 08/11/2020 19:45

Every year the kids get a Christmas jumper day at school so those stick around until they are outgrown by all three kids 13, 11 & 6. My eldest has decided he's had enough of it all now so I might not have to buy one every again. Hmm - that's a weird thought, oddly victorious, like when I got to throw out the bastarding baby walker.

ShanghaiDiva · 08/11/2020 19:46

No.
Don’t buy Xmas pyjamas or jumpers.

emilyfrost · 08/11/2020 19:46

@Muddybuddy

No, it’s so wasteful. What possible reason could there be to have a different Christmas jumper every year, they hardly get work as it is
Because we want to, and that’s a good enough reason for me.
Swingometer · 08/11/2020 19:48

No

Wherearefoxssocks · 08/11/2020 19:55

I've had the same christmas jumper pretty much since they became popular. I have several sets of christmas pj's but wear them all year round (who else is going to see them?)
I have bought some matching family pyjamas this year but DH and I will wear ours all year. DS will wear his til he grows out of them

Airyfairymarybeary · 08/11/2020 19:56

No. Complete waste of money. Sounds like the type of thing an ‘Instagram family’ would do!

SunsetBeetch · 08/11/2020 19:56

No. We also don't "dress up" for Christmas dinner: we just wear normal, casual clothes (like possibly Christmas jumpers).

Magicbabywaves · 08/11/2020 19:57

No! Two of my kids have Xmas pjs from Sao so that they wear all year round and I don’t have any. I have an Xmas jumper I ve had about ten years.

Magicbabywaves · 08/11/2020 19:58

*sainos

lazylinguist · 08/11/2020 19:59

No. Some years PIL have bought the dc Christmas pyjamas, but they happily wear them all year. I bought them a Christmas jumper each once, but it seemed so wasteful (and most are pretty tacky) that I never did it again.

Ginnymweasley · 08/11/2020 20:00

My kids get new xmas jumpers but they are still young so grow a lot. My youngest wore hand me downs last year and will this year but my dd last year had a pink unicorn jumper and I doubt ds will want to wear that in 2 years time haha.

Viv0321 · 08/11/2020 20:04

I should have explained young kids growing a lot.

OP posts:
MushMonster · 08/11/2020 20:10

Jumpers yes, new for my daughter, but we reuse my husband's and mine if they are in good condition.
We got new matching PJs first time this year

nosswith · 08/11/2020 20:21

Not at all. A jumper is for several winters, not just for Christmas.

cheeseismydownfall · 08/11/2020 22:32

No. It's a fucking ridiculous, wasteful non-tradition. I begrudgingly buy the DCs a cheap Christmas tshirt or charity shop thing when their old one is unequivocally too small, for sodding Christmas jumper day at school. Pyjamas get bought when needed at any point during the year.

On Christmas day everyone can where whatever they want.

Bah humbug.
