Has anyone’s children carried on doing doing after school activities since March?

Beavers in my area hasn’t started back at all.

OP posts:
RaggieDolls · 07/11/2020 22:35

Everything is closed for the next four weeks but swimming lessons started back in August, dance and piano in September and Brownies a fortnight ago.

No Beavers here for DS though. I don't know if scouting is back anywhere.

underneaththeash · 07/11/2020 22:59

I restarted my brownies group when we could in September. Probably half of my other children’s groups have re-started.
There were an awful lot of RA and boxes to be ticked before we could re-open.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/11/2020 23:05

Yeah they started back but they've stopped again now.

noblegiraffe · 07/11/2020 23:07

Yes, they all carried on on zoom.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/11/2020 23:10

My brownies went F2F when we could in September and did 6 weeks on the park. Shortly before half-term it was getting rather dark and chilly. Indoors became viable again and we switched to one week outdoors and a pair of alternating weeks on zoom/ indoors for each pod. There was good balance to it.
Back on fucking Zoom now.

DSs haven't engaged in fucking Zoom scouting since March.

Swimming and Karate came back for 8 weeks.

No afterschool football for DS2.

School sports clubs now cancelled.

DS2 did a few sports camps over the summer which did a lot for his sanity.

The physio reccommended swimming for DS1 on Thursday. shallow laugh

Fudgsicles · 07/11/2020 23:12

Swimming never started up again, now says after Christmas. Football did but has now stopped again and cheerleading did but is now going to be over Zoom. No actual school extra curricular activites have been restarted though.

DarkDarkNight · 07/11/2020 23:13

It’s stopped now but things did start up again in September.

Beavers a mix of outdoor sessions and Zoom sessions. Football and rugby but both outdoor sessions where they would normally have gone indoors over winter.

MigGril · 07/11/2020 23:18

Most schools haven't started after school clubs as they can't mix the school bubbles. DS football started as they play in year groups.

Club swimming went back in July but has had to stop for now as the leisure centres are shut.

Scouts and Cubs have been Zoom only since March.

JackHam · 07/11/2020 23:19

Mine have been back at football, gymnastics, dancing and also having music lessons face to face since the summer. Then Lockdown hit and all sport is off for a month and music lessons back online.

purpleme12 · 07/11/2020 23:23

Yes beavers started again but only got 3 sessions in before lockdown again.

Started martial arts

Swimming has never been back up!! I know she'll have gone backwards by the time we go back. She's not a confident swimmer

thismeansnothing · 07/11/2020 23:28

Cubs only restarted 4 weeks ago and its over zoom.

Dance classes restarted in September only cos they shut for summer holidays anyway. But are now over zoom.

Swimming restarted in July, but at the pool DD goes to which is part of the same group wasn't till 4 week ago because its smaller and they couldnt get things in place to socially distance the lessons as quickly as the bigger pool.

Baby swimming restarted in sept.

MushMonster · 07/11/2020 23:29

Piano lessons, she did not miss any but this is done via Skype.
She did go back to horse riding when the lockdown was lifted, but we gave up in August.
Choir, they met up in the park once and outdoors or in the big hall in the church a few times when this was allowed. But rest of meetings were on Skype again.

Gertie75 · 07/11/2020 23:33

Swimming lessons restarted, friends dd also went back to Beavers.

YerAWizardHarry · 07/11/2020 23:36

Our Beavers have been back outdoors since mid-August when they went back to school. They've been back indoor for 2 weeks now. Swimming isn't back at our pool specifically from other council pools have been able to implement lessons

Titsywoo · 07/11/2020 23:40

My DD16 has been back at her maths tutor, art class and rainbows group (she is a volunteer there) since Sept although all have gone back on zoom for now.

thaegumathteth · 07/11/2020 23:41

13yo is at football 5 nights a week

10 yo is at dance and hockey but brownies hasn't come back

Yubaba · 07/11/2020 23:58

Cubs and scouts aren’t going back till new year probably. We have a few older leaders who are vulnerable and we are in a tier 3 area anyway.
Karate and trampoline lessons started back in September but are closed now for 4 weeks.
The schools after school clubs aren’t starting back till at least the spring term and probably not even then.

BackforGood · 08/11/2020 00:16

Do you mean 'carried on since March' or do you mean 'started up at some point, after shutting down in March' ?

Re Beavers, it does depend on the Groups / District County. Some went on to Zoom, but it is / has been quite a challenge retaining interest. Leaders are flogging themselves trying to come up with ideas (and had to learn how to use Zoom) and then found themselves with such low numbers, it is disheartening.
The Scouts did allow certain distances activities, outside, under strict conditions, if you could get a Risk Assessment in and approved from August, but it just wasn't realistic for most sections. Then (here anyway) local lockdown took Scouts back to 'red' (ie, no meeting) again in mid September, when some parts of the Country moved to allowing them to meet indoors (again under strict guidance). Even those Groups who wanted to go back, and had enough Leaders, couldn't always as the Churches or school halls they meet in, weren't allowing them back in many cases.

ceeveebee · 08/11/2020 00:16

Cubs has been online since March. Brownies has not been running at all but about to start online
Football, tennis, dance, karate all restarted in august/September but now stopped again for 4 weeks
School are running a couple of clubs primarily to help with childcare (running the normal wraparound care as well)

DontKnowHowToReact · 08/11/2020 06:23

Our school sports club was back until a couple of weeks ago. Same kids DC's at school with and outdoors.
They've also continued with their swimming lessons, 4 in a class, but parents have to wear masks etc.

Bickles · 08/11/2020 06:41

Since half term school are running one after school activity for each bubble. DS class get football for an hour one day - only with his classmates- and he’s enjoying it. It seems this can carry on through this lockdown as it’s school.
Otherwise no- he was due to move from Beavers to Cubs this term but won’t do zoom so we didn’t bother. Swimming hasn’t re started and neither has dance or Lego club.
He’s having tutoring and that can continue but it’s hardly fun!

wendz86 · 08/11/2020 06:45

Mine went back to swimming , dance and gymnastics . Back on zoom again now bar the swimming .

Bellesavage · 08/11/2020 06:46

Mine went back to swimming, dance, gymnastics and music lessons. Everything but swimming has gone online, although baby swimming sends me videos about how to keep them water confident in the bath Grin

Indoctro · 08/11/2020 06:46

My kids are currently going to running club, tae kwon do and swimming lessons

TravellingSpoon · 08/11/2020 07:06

DS's piano went to zoom in march and stayed there.

DD's art club came back f2f in September but now closed for 4 weeks. She is doing history club after school.
