Anyone else slightly addicted to Pepsi Max

Slight newbie here, so apologies if I'm in the wrong forum!

My SO and I often go to a large supermarket-esque warehouse (unsure if I can say) and I've found myself each time buying an entire palette of Pepsi Max. I cannot help myself!

I feel some days i drink 3-4 cans of the fizzy pop. A couple of my friends drink a lot too. But is drinking Pepsi Max just a mum thing?!?! Confused

My son caught me with a multipack of 24 in my boot - found it embarrassing but I cannot recall a time when I didn't have a couple of bonus cans in my boot. Mums! Help me!

@mrsswayze

No gives me horrific migraines must be the caffeine
Me too but I think it's the artificial sweetener aspartame that causes it rather than the caffeine, as I drink loads of coffee which doesn't affect me.

Tesco had the two litre bottles at 5 for €5 recently. I can't bring myself to admit how many I bought Blush I half wish they'd just stop making it.

LouJ85 · 07/11/2020 13:41

Yep. I'm 17 weeks pregnant and suffered with awful sickness throughout, Pepsi max is the only thing that settles my tummy and makes me feel a little better!

Fellow Pepsi Max addict here! I have one can a day at least, I try to limit myself to 3 max. If I run out I get annoyed and a bit twitchy. It slowly dawned on me one day that I am addicted to this crap, like properly addicted. It’s my vice, my one treat. I’m so lucky my children like water and so far don’t seem to have copied my addiction and don’t ask for fizzy drinks.
Like many of you it has to be a can and it has to be really cold. Can’t get enough of it.

Nearlysantatime · 07/11/2020 13:45

Diet Pepsi is a million and one times nicer than Diet Coke.

I drink 2l of Diet Irn Bru a day but it used to be Diet Pepsi.

Dozer · 07/11/2020 13:47

Was addicted and stopped during lockdown, initially from a can a day to 2 a week, then none.

V v bad for teeth (acidic/the gas) and (I read) has same effect spiking blood sugar as full sugar colas.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/11/2020 13:48

I found Pepsi Max more addictive than other diet colas. When I wanted to give up I switched over to Diet Coke for a while and then gave that up. It's probably more of a psychological addiction than physical because I had other sources of caffeine, but it took about six weeks for the cravings to stop. I gave it up because I have type 2 diabetes and I had read in a few places that artificial sweeteners increase carb cravings, and obviously I need to control my carb intake. I did find that once I was over the Diet Coke cravings my desire for biscuits or toast snacks had also reduced so there probably was something I in what I'd read.

nimbose · 07/11/2020 13:49

My old history teacher used to drink 18 cans a day Shock
I think they must secretly put crack in it.

ukgift2016 · 07/11/2020 13:53

Yep, always pepsi it's cheaper than coke and tastes nicer.

I am addicted to diet fizzy drinks, it has caused some damage to my teeth and I dread to think what I done to my body.

I drink 2 liter bottle a week which is a reduction of what I used to drink.

SmallHouse · 07/11/2020 13:53

@nimbose 18 cans!!??! I don't think I've ever been that bad, but will admit, i have definitely got through a 2l bottle on my own

I love Pepsi Max cherry and buy it by the case of 24
I always have at least one can in the evening.. Not sure if I'm specifically addicted to it but I consume coffee by the pint too!

TheListeners · 07/11/2020 14:30

Both me and DH totally addicted. I managed 6 months off it last year. First few days were painful. I plan on weaning myself off again but I'm currently dieting and I'm going to wait until I'm at goal weight before doing this.

Paranoidmarvin · 07/11/2020 14:30

Yes. I have bladder problems. And I have just been drinking water for the last 17 years. I tried this the other day. And my bladder can take it. I really need to cut down though. I have one a day. But oh man it is nice to drink something else. Not sure my teeth like it though

Sevendaysaweek · 07/11/2020 14:31

I did until my enamel on my teeth got damaged I assume from the acid. I only drink water now or tea occasionally.

Paranoidmarvin · 07/11/2020 14:32

@Dozer I have trouble with sugar spikes and have never had one from this. No idea wether it’s just me. But now you have mentioned it I will keep an eye out just incase. Thanks

Gingernaut · 07/11/2020 14:32

Yup. I look for the deals in Iceland and B&M Stores.

If there's only the raspberry and cherry flavours left, then I'll go for Diet Pepsi and then Diet Coke.

I've spent so long on diets (was brought up on TAB), that I acquired a taste for the diet flavours.

misskatamari · 07/11/2020 14:34

My husband is addicted to Pepsi Max. I like it but try not to drink too many fizzy drinks, and if I have it after 5pm I don't sleep. Dh drinks so much of the stuff tho. He's trying to wean down, but he loves the stuff!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 07/11/2020 14:35

I'm diabetic and measure my blood sugar up to 7 times a day. I can promise you that Pepsi Max makes no difference to it whatsoever.

NoDarling · 07/11/2020 14:46

You are all clearly unhinged Grin because Coca-Cola is better then Pepsi.

GrinGrinGrin

itsgettingcoldoutside · 07/11/2020 14:47

I prefer it to Diet Coke now. Yup addicted Grin

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2020 14:47

Ewww I much prefer Pepsi to Coke.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/11/2020 14:55

Are you type 1 Utterly? My understanding is that it affects insulin levels rather than glucose levels so wouldn't make any difference to type 1. Also it affects people differently, for instance if I eat a carby lunch then I have more carb cravings in the late afternoon than if I had a protein/leafy veg/fibre lunch, but not everyone is like that. A diet cola was giving me a carb-like reaction.

Woui · 07/11/2020 14:59

I was a total addict and drank between 4 and 6L a day... every bloody day...for years.

I switched to fizzy water and added lemon or lime.

Total game changer for me and I realised it was the fizzyness I was addicted to as much as the taste. I also switched to a soda stream so I don't use so much plastic (still drinking 4 - 6L a day).

Had a meal deal the other day and got a pepsi max the other day. It was truly awful!

Eaumyword · 07/11/2020 15:03

My people. Unfortunately I'm completely addicted to Pepsi Max, limit myself to 2 cans a day. It has to be a can, I think to do with the fizziness. I've drunk it for 25yrs Blush
I weirdly don't care for anything like diet coke or the additional flavours like cherry.

DwangelaForever · 07/11/2020 15:03

Yes. I buy 4 2ltr bottles a week. Hubby is addicted to diet coke although he drinks his from tins.
