Top or bottom kitchen?
Bottom is our current design, it's a laminate worktop but we have oak floors and oak internal doors through to the hallway and utility so I'm worried with the worktops it's too much different shades/tones of wood. Mumsnet pointed it out to me earlier and I'm wobbling now.

Top is the new design, it would be snowy Ibiza silestone quartz.

Which is better?

Sorry Verde Lara not
Lana.
We have a tiled floor which is a mix of shades of light brown and tinge of green on some. Floor was already down. The guys that fitted the kitchen loved it. It is a natural granite. The flow lines on ours go length ways and it has very fine tinges of a deep rose like someone drew on it so very subtle.

We have white cabinets with dark grey worktop and dark grey plinth

Best decision ever even now a few years down the line.

@KiriAndLou

I'd go for maintenance, OP. Which is easier to maintain and harder to damage?
I prefer the bottom one tbh. But looking at the maintenance the side stone seems harder work. Don’t use bleach, cleaners need ph under 10, don’t spill degreaser/oven cleaner on it - too much of a worry! Spray the wrong cleaner on it and the whole lot is ruined. www.silestone.co.uk/silestone-maintenance/

Top 🙂 by a mile!!

nomdeplume2019 · 07/11/2020 05:48

Top..
But both are as nice as each other

mamaca · 07/11/2020 05:55

Top is very similar to my worktop - white quartz. I was worried about stains etc at first but it's been in 4 years now and I love it!

Wincarnis · 07/11/2020 05:57

Quartz! I have had laminate, wood, and quartz which is by far the best in terms of durability and cleaning (do you cook/bake a lot?) Wooden worktops look nice initially but can be ruined by water stains. White worktops show every crumb.

HeronLanyon · 07/11/2020 06:03

Just looking at the photos I prefer the bottom because the top looks a bit cold to my eye.

BUT once you have your stuff on surfaces (however minimal) I think this would sort out that ‘problem’. So for that reason I go for the top.

If I were truly stuck between the two I think I’d be less likely to ‘regret’ the top.
Both are great. Good luck op.

QuentinQuarantino · 07/11/2020 06:11

Bottom.

The white looks odd with the cream imo.

The kitchen is quite traditional and the wood suits it better.

White quartz is more suitable for blingy modern kitchens that are in at the minute.

Chickychickydodah · 07/11/2020 06:15

Top

CormoranStrikesANoteofDoom · 07/11/2020 06:20

Top one for me

Positivevibesonlyplease · 07/11/2020 06:24

@weepingwillow22

I am not keen on the contrast between white and cream. They look too similar. I would go for the wood if you can get a good match with the floor or something else entirely, maybe a grey silestone would be a good contrast with the cream.
This. Just a slightly darker worktop would look lovely, IMHO.

and this.
Allsloppy · 07/11/2020 06:29

How about a combination of the 2. I have light worktop on the cupboards round the edge of my kitchen and a chunky oak worktop on my island. I like it.

KatherineJaneway · 07/11/2020 06:32

Top

Make sure you have spotlights in the top cupboards shining down on the work surfaces.

newbiemummie · 07/11/2020 06:35

Definitely top!!

DinosApple · 07/11/2020 06:40

I like the bottom better tbh. It's the contrast and warm tones.

We have white kitchen units, grey slate like floor tiles, and dark brown wood effect laminate which I chose a few years ago. I still love every bit of it. The laminate top has lasted really well (and it was only £30 for 3m from IKEA!).
One of the kids recently dropped a jar of Nutella onto a red Sharpie (Hmm) on the worktop. It shattered and splattered everywhere and took a lot of products to get rid, but the top still looks like new.

Bakeachocolatecaketoday · 07/11/2020 06:40

Honestly I wouldn't do this without seeing the samples together....that is your problem.

The modern look is whiter worktops. My light cupboards/darker worktop is looking old fashioned now.

Bottom

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 07/11/2020 06:54

Alone I prefer the bottom one as the wood gives it a grounding, but as it wouldn't go with the floor I think you should choose the top one. Silestone does look lovely in real life so I don't think you'll regret it. Very lovely designs overall.

springiscoming12 · 07/11/2020 06:58

Top, definitely.
Quartz is much easier to clean I think too!

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/11/2020 07:00

Bottom is warmer.

Tardigrade001 · 07/11/2020 07:02

The top one would look better with oak. The problem is a mix of warm and cold colours which gives you a slight 'off' feeling - the white and cream together, and the tiles, which look a bit too cold for the cabinets in the first picture. It could just be the photo though.
Ultimately, both are really nice kitchens.
