Top or bottom kitchen?
Bottom is our current design, it's a laminate worktop but we have oak floors and oak internal doors through to the hallway and utility so I'm worried with the worktops it's too much different shades/tones of wood. Mumsnet pointed it out to me earlier and I'm wobbling now.

Top is the new design, it would be snowy Ibiza silestone quartz.

Which is better?

@YellowEllis

Honestly I'm doubting everything! The kitchen was what I was most excited about and I don't like it. I just don't like my plan and I don't know what to change. Dh is getting annoyed and embarrassed at me wanting to go back and change everything but I just know in my gut that it's wrong.
It's totally normal! If you don't like it, scrap the whole plan, believe me, I have been there
Ginandplatonic · 07/11/2020 04:54

What don’t you like? The finishes? The layout? It’s obviously keeping you awake at night if you’re in the UK. If you really dislike it it’s better to change it now than later even if you annoy people. But you need to sort out if it’s that or just the normal second guessing yourself feelings.

YellowEllis · 07/11/2020 04:54

I know but I have to decide by 12pm tomorrow or I'll delay our completion date. Dh just getting annoyed at me for being indecisive. I let him take over in the show room as I got overwhelmed but it feels wrong.

Neither. The top one is a bit to white / bland and the bottom one has a dark stripe through it. What about trying to get closer to the warmth in the floor with the worktop?

YellowEllis · 07/11/2020 04:57

This was the kitchen I had in my mind since day one. The issue is we need to pick tiles as we have them all the way up, around extractor. I tried to pick and couldn't, flapped and went for the patterned green ones. Dh chose dark worktops. Now it all feels wrong.

I like the look of the second one, but ultimately I’d prefer a quartz worktop to a laminate one.

Blueberries0112 · 07/11/2020 05:00

I like it. It look like they didn't use any backsplash tiles at all, just a backsplash from the countertop and everything else is painted

Bl3ss3dm0m · 07/11/2020 05:00

Top one!

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/11/2020 05:01

In that case, start from scratch. Would it be cheaper not to have oak flooring for example? I also like the pic blueberries posted.

user1481840227 · 07/11/2020 05:01

Bottom...definitely

bouncydog · 07/11/2020 05:03

Ignore what other people say and go with what you like. Personally I prefer the bottom one as I like the contrast and all white is too bland imho. We have a maple kitchen with a wooden floor and black granite worktops. We love it - the floor picks up the tones of the maple and the wooden doors and skirtings. According to mumsnet it would be too much wood but who cares - it’s personal choice!

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/11/2020 05:03

I didn’t refresh before posting. I like the tiles. They give a pop of much needed muted colour. Your last pic is too cold

seag · 07/11/2020 05:03

Top one, looks more up to date and fresher

Ginandplatonic · 07/11/2020 05:04

I like your green tiles if they are what’s bothering you. They will make what’s otherwise a lovely but fairly generic white kitchen a bit different from every other one you see. We have a granite island countertop in our otherwise standard white and stainless steel kitchen that I had serious second thoughts about because it was so different from the white on white everyone was doing at the time. Now it’s my favourite thing in the kitchen. I see something new every time I look at it. I’m so glad we went with something a bit different.

Blueberries0112 · 07/11/2020 05:04

I think your SO should go with your plan, skip the tiles. Paint it , you can always add the tiles later in life

OzziePopPop · 07/11/2020 05:04

Bottom one, good luck making a decision soon :o)

Coffeecak3 · 07/11/2020 05:06

You should go for the pale worktop if that's the look you want.
It's your tile choice i think that's throwing you. It's hard to see them properly on a visualizer but in your photo they just don't look right somehow.
I like the last kitchen you posted.

Gingernaut · 07/11/2020 05:07

Top

bouncydog · 07/11/2020 05:08

Should also add that if you’re not sure of the plan go back and change it. It’s a big decision that you have to live with. Ours took around 6 months in the design stage and in the end I did it myself with an online planner tool, swapping things around. You need a designer that will listen to what you want and work with you to fulfil your dream. What don’t you like about the layout?

Bl3ss3dm0m · 07/11/2020 05:09

I think that the sink looks great, slick and expensive looking, even if it isn't! With all the wood on the floor and doors I don't think it will look at all cold - you have very good taste, but I do hope you are asleep now!

KormaKormaChameleon · 07/11/2020 05:11

I think the wood worktops look better with the colour of the cupboards but the top one will look better with the other woods you have in your house.
Might be why it's a tricky decision as they're both better (and worse) than each other for different reasons.

Blueberries0112 · 07/11/2020 05:11

Are you going to get the exact flooring ? If you plan on using your existing flooring or something different, it can throw off your original design just to make the flooring work

Bowerbird5 · 07/11/2020 05:12

It is a big decision. I had to make the same decision two years ago. We finally decided only for the cooker we had and I wanted to keep to start to go on the oven then I had another decision to make. After deliberate for days we bought an Everhot...then I had to chose a colour Sage and Aubergine were my two favourite and I couldn’t decide. I went for the sage eventually. This might add to your difficulties but have you seen our worktop Lana which is shades of green. I don’t know how to do links but will find it and post. I like both but would probably veer towards the wood laminate. I wanted wood but read up about how it was often difficult if it got too wet around sink. We were able to go to the warehouse and chose the worktop. I absolutely love it. My cupboards are similar to yours but more country style as we live in a cottage in the country.

Lucy830 · 07/11/2020 05:13

I like the bottom kitchen.

weepingwillow22 · 07/11/2020 05:24

I am not keen on the contrast between white and cream. They look too similar. I would go for the wood if you can get a good match with the floor or something else entirely, maybe a grey silestone would be a good contrast with the cream.
