What would you buy/do?

Must be life enhancing. Already have all the appliances I need, I think.

And of course must be available for home delivery.Smile

(Small windfall which has to be spent on “something nice, just for you.”)

A replacement iPad mini for mine that has lines on the display and then a few books

For those of you wanting an Apple Watch, I have one and I wouldn’t recommend. The battery life is rubbish and so you lose the sleep functionality as you have to charge it every night. Get a decent Fitbit instead tbh

NullcovoidNovember · 08/11/2020 19:56

Wow great ideas! Loving the flowers idea.
Especially through winter.
I'd perhaps buy some bulbs... Pay someone's to remove some ivy..

Buy some silk pillow cases, clarins body moisturiser, an electric blanket, face cream...

New duvet, luxury, one and or premium bonds!!

froomeonthebroom · 08/11/2020 19:57

Lego modular building approx £150. Irregular Choice shoes approx £100. Save the rest for a couple of nights away in a premier inn and a nice meal/drinks.

Littlepaws18 · 08/11/2020 20:00

Three words: Dyson hair straighteners.

Changed my life and you will still have change for a pair of ugh slippers.

MustardMitt · 08/11/2020 20:00

A KitchenAid and a good food processor. I'm assuming the KitchenAid would be about £350!

MustardMitt · 08/11/2020 20:01

Or a Dyson hairdryer. Probably the kitchen stuff, it would make me smile to use it remembering someone's kind gift.

notangelinajolie · 08/11/2020 20:02

I'd put the money in my teeth implant fund.

Rollypollygoo · 08/11/2020 20:13

Sensible me would put it in my New Car Fund.

Indulgent Me would kit out my bed... New mattress topper, new mattress. Some new sets of bedding and matching bedspreads/cushions.

ohdearmymistake · 08/11/2020 20:54

Get some carbon dating done.

Oly4 · 08/11/2020 20:57

I’d put it towards the 1K watch I want.
A watch or a diamond bracelet!

BarbaraofSeville · 08/11/2020 21:05

@ohdearmymistake

Get some carbon dating done.
This is a service that a member of the public can pay for? Intriguing.

What ancient artifact to do you need dating?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/11/2020 21:09

Agree with others that it depends if it's someone you feel sentimental about. If yes, I'd use some of it on a piece of jewellery.

Otherwise, for me it would be:
£150 new boots
£60ish cashmere scarf
£150ish new coat
And the rest on a couple of huge new cookery books and some flowers

NullcovoidNovember · 08/11/2020 21:17

I'd love to know why hair straighteners need to be 300!!

What do they do aside from straight hair. Would you need to blow dry first?

Sarjest · 08/11/2020 21:53

Maybe buy a garden bench or tools plus some decent sized plants? You’d appreciate them for years. I’m getting old. 😀 I’ve got a similar amount of money but the garden doesn’t want for anything. I’ve only managed a dressing gown...

ohdearmymistake · 08/11/2020 22:33

Around 15 + years ago I found some of the old wattle and daub on some of the walls and in the loft. I was told that it's possible to carbon date the straw in it, so set off on my quest to find someone/somewhere to do it.
After a lot of research I found that the archaeology department at Oxford university can do it. I don't know if they still do this but see no reason not to. I was about to send a sample off as they mentioned casually that it cost £350, I imagine that £500 probably wouldn't be enough now but would go some way.

If possible I would send some chaff that insulated the kitchen ceiling which was very effective for noise and heat, though I doubt would pass fire regs.

TableDesk · 08/11/2020 22:37

Botox or flower subscription ie Freddys or Bloom

Thighdentitycrisis · 08/11/2020 22:39

I’d like a puppy

HoobleDooble · 08/11/2020 22:41

I'm desperate to trade my car for something a bit newer/less milage so (quite boringly) it would be shoved into my saving account before I started looking at pretty things.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 08/11/2020 22:48

Custom made coffee tables, I can never find quite the right thing

shrill · 08/11/2020 22:50

A really good wig or a gardener in the spring

Cherrysoup · 08/11/2020 22:52

Pay the yard bill for the horse for the past 2 months, easy!

Cherrysoup · 08/11/2020 22:54

I’d like a puppy

Blimey, you’d need at least 4 times as much for even a pup with no history currently!

elp30 · 08/11/2020 23:22

I'm a keen cook but I've never owned professional knives. I'd also spend my £500 (after the knife purchase) to get specialist training in knife skills.

That makes me sound like a sad git!

Marchmarch · 08/11/2020 23:33

Lots and lots of lovely ideas, Thankyou!

I have bought some very good boots and I plan to spend the rest on some large climbing roses (David Austin Shropshire Lad, I think) and some lavender bushes underneath, and some hefty type to dig and plant them. Smile
