What to do with Diced Beef

IliveonCoffee · 05/11/2020 10:16

So I got diced beef out last night....and I have no idea what to do with it....

It's the same everytime tbh. I buy it, think oh that'll be a nice change. Shove in freezer....get it out once day....remember partner doesn't like stew...debate leaving him and cooking stew...decide that's a lot of hard work and I should find something else. Make a jar curry which would have been better as chicken. Beef is tough and wasted.

So what should I cook....I do have a slow cooker and I'm working from home so can get that on if needed. Unfortunately...not stew or casserole (but hotpots are apparently okay Hmm HmmConfused)

Chilli! I always make mine with diced beef rather than mince and it’s lovely.

Napqueen1234 · 05/11/2020 10:18

Make a jar curry but in the slow cooker! That’s what I do with it. Brown the beef (or not) some onions, with mine I use madras curry paste, tin of tomatoes and cook for 6 hours. Beef pulls apart and so easy!

Cook it in a beef stock cube for 2.5 hours on a simmering heat and then make a chilli. So much nicer than mince.

Slow braise it with onions, mushrooms and a splash of red wine. Serve with mash.

I use it for this recipe (cook the broccoli separately otherwise it’s gross and mushy)

What's the difference between stew and hot pot ? I'd do a curry beef just takes a bit longer put it on and just let it go..my DD makes chilli with beef steak it is lovely.

movingonup20 · 05/11/2020 10:23

Chilli?

Elizaaa · 05/11/2020 10:24

Pie?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 05/11/2020 10:25

Braise it with carrots, shallots, stock, red wine, and black pepper. When it’s finished and reduced a little, whack it in a pie dish and top with shortcrust pastry and bung in oven until golden. Serve with spuds and veg of choice.

MyCatReallyIsAGit · 05/11/2020 10:26

How about goulash? I use a Delia recipe which takes 2 onions, about 700g diced beef and a tin of chopped tomatoes. Cooks in the oven for about two hours, then add pepper strips and leave it another half hour. Serve with soured cream and rice/mash/whatever takes your fancy.

Stifado

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 05/11/2020 10:34

Brown it in hot pan, brown some onions, dredge in seasoned flour, put in slow cooker with a pint or so of Guinness, a bay leaf & some halved pickled walnuts.

Cook on low for about eight hours.

Yum.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2020 10:35

Cook it with cumin, coriander, paprika, garlic and a bit of stock in the slow cooker. When done, shred and serve as burittos with guacamole, rice, cheese, wraps or whatever accompaniments you like.

Beef stroganoff 😋

FlyingByTheSeatof · 05/11/2020 10:36

I make goulash weekly with diced beef which I start off on the hob and then put in the oven on 160 for an hour and a half which makes any cut tender.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/11/2020 10:39

i second goulash. With mashed potato.

Does your DP like casseroles? I'm not a fan of stew but love a casserole. Long slow cooking is the key.

MintyCedric · 05/11/2020 10:47

Coming on to second both chilli and goulash.

If you can be arsed to make bread bowls to serve the latter in, even better!

Comeonmommy · 05/11/2020 11:14

Steak pie. I have diced beef in the slow cooker at the moment on low and later I'll move it to a pie dish with a filo pastry lid - yum 😋

Mrsjayy · 05/11/2020 11:15

I would also make a pie its my favourite.

youngestisapsycho · 05/11/2020 11:19

In slow cooker, chilli or a beef ragu

Clawdy · 05/11/2020 11:19

Boeuf Bourguignon! Braise it with onions, mushrooms and chopped bacon bits - in red wine and beef stock.

StylishMummy · 05/11/2020 11:21

Slow cooker on high with onions, garlic, red wine and 1 tin of tomatoes makes a very rich steak pie filling

BertieBotts · 05/11/2020 11:22

Make a stew but call it a hotpot or casserole? Aren't they all the same thing anyway?

midsomermurderess · 05/11/2020 11:23

I'd say chilli too. I use it with this Thomasina Miers recipe recipe.

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/11/2020 11:23

Kebabs? Toss in a marinade, then put on skewers and roast in oven on grill setting......
Serve with tzatziki, rice, veg
