Rural area, mum nowhere to be seen, very cold and shivering so have bought them in to warm up.

Now what?!

So I found something in my shed this morning...

They're lovely!

Very jealous. Only thing in my shed is a grouchy husband on a Zoom call 🙄

userxx · 05/11/2020 13:06

Wrap a hot water bottle in a towel or two and put them on it in the shed to keep them warm until she comes back

Yep, I'd do this too.

AiryFairyMum · 05/11/2020 13:06

Yes, please put lots of food out for mum. She will be starving.

thecatneuterer · 05/11/2020 13:07

@Gingernaut I'm with a trap/neuter/return charity in the South East (Celia Hammonds). I've asked the OP to give me a location to see if we can help.

trickyex · 05/11/2020 13:08

I agree, pop them back in the shed with warm blankets in a box and some food for Mother cat and take the help offered up thread? Adorable creatures.

thecatneuterer · 05/11/2020 13:09

@Gingernaut But the kittens need to be put back, and the mum cat regularly fed, for any trap/neuter attempts to be successful. If the kittens disappear now then so will the mum. And the kittens are really too young to be without the mum.

FantasticRik1 · 05/11/2020 13:10

Shamelessly placemarking.

They look well looked after so hopefully Mum is around and will return soon.

Can you put a radiator / heater in the shed and keep an eye out?

Shellingbynight · 05/11/2020 13:16

Years ago I found a tiny orphaned kitten, the vet reckoned he was about 4 weeks old. He could lap, and I gave him the food the vet recommended, which was soft sloppy stuff he could lap up. I kept him and he thrived and lived to be 16!

Let us know how they get on, they are gorgeous.

IntermittentParps · 05/11/2020 13:16

Aw, they're so cute. I thought you were going to say it was a spider/scorpion/other horror Grin

Gingernaut · 05/11/2020 13:18

@thecatneuterer, absolutely.

PurrBox · 05/11/2020 13:22

Please listen to thecatneuterer... she devotes her life to cats, is very experienced, and really knows what she is talking about. I would put the kittens back where you found them, but in a warm box with blankets. Mum might be very shy and very cautious, so you might not see her, but she will be getting frantic with worry. Of course there is a chance that something bad has happened to her, or that some bad person took away her kittens and dumped them in your shed, but those things are much very unlikely.

The kittens look well cared for, so by far the most likely thing is that mum went hunting and returned to find her kittens gone. She is feral, so she will not let you see her, but she will be there, unless she has had a terrible accident.

Annamaywong25 · 05/11/2020 13:25

I've taken in 3 week abandoned kittens a couple of times. Fed them on runny ready brek and/or scramble egg. Dont know if it was the right thing to do but they both thrived and lived to old age (with me).

VintageTeaRose · 05/11/2020 13:25

Wow I've never seen black cats with blue eyes! They do look healthy - their eyes are so bright and free from infection from how it looks. Do they move well?

Allergictoironing · 05/11/2020 13:26

Another vote for you to put them back in the shed asap, with warm blankets/towels/whatever, and plenty of food for mum. PM thecatneuterer with your location so she can arrange for the professionals to sort out both mother & kittens.

I understand it must be tempting to have 3 cute black furries appear in your life, but that's definitely the best option.

Missmonkeypenny · 05/11/2020 13:27

Sorry all, was doing lunch for the small people so haven't had a chance to reply.

TCN I'm in hampshire, feel free to PM me and thank you so much for your advice.

I've just seen a run over black cat on the way back from the shops and I'm hoping it isnt her 😔

I've been out and bought cat food for mum which I'm about to put out for her now and a hot water bottle for the kittens. I will pop them back outside with the hot water bottle and blankets and check in a few hours. I'm also going to out flour on the floor to see if she comes by leaving footprints...is that mad?

The blue will Change like human babies. Some pedigrees have the Siamese gene so they stay blue.

WitchesSpelleas · 05/11/2020 13:27

Wow I've never seen black cats with blue eyes!

Happy to be corrected but I think most kitten have blue eyes to start with, and they later turn green or yellow.

The eyes are blue because they are so young; they are born that colour & only change at some time between 3-8 weeks.
thecatneuterer · 05/11/2020 13:31

OP - sadly Hampshire isn't in our area. You can find all local cat rescues here www.catchat.org Cats Protection is always a good bet too.

That's worrying about the run over cat. How close was it to you? Is there any chance you could go back and look at the body? You would need to look at the nipples (and of course the sex if possible). If the nipples look big and used then it's almost certainly her.

Badnessinthefolds · 05/11/2020 13:31

They're gorgeous! I agree with putting them back in the shed and monitoring to see if mum turns up.

If you have any styrofoam packaging you could cover tuck them in that and with a blanket so they'll be insulated against the cold (mum cat will like it too). Easier than hot water bottles. Lots of tutorials for feral cat shelters online if you want to get extravagant!

notapizzaeater · 05/11/2020 13:32

Awww they are adorable, a nice soft cuddly blanket will keep them cosy.

Badnessinthefolds · 05/11/2020 13:34

*cover with a blanket and tuck them in the

Stupid phone!

HellequineViriato · 05/11/2020 13:43

This is how we got our cat and they look about the same size as she was. Her mum was a feral who kept having litters most of which did not survive. We found her in the garden abandoned and she was there a couple of days without her mum. We were afraid she wouldn't survive but she ate the cat food/cat milk and after around a couple of weeks I think she thought she'd always been here. She is now a very large and pampered animal!

I would see if you can see the mum and decide what to do from there. If she is nowhere to be seen after a few days it may be that she might have met with an accident sadly. But looking at them they might have a good chance of survival with the right help.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 13:48

Not RTFT.
I have some names for them:
Female - Flora, Elfine and Ada
Male - Amos, Seth and Reuben

YesItsMeIDontCare · 05/11/2020 13:50

I'm also going to put flour on the floor to see if she comes by leaving footprints...is that mad? - Totally mad and also totally genius 😁.

Really hoping black cat isn't Mum, still sad though.
