Rural area, mum nowhere to be seen, very cold and shivering so have bought them in to warm up.

Now what?!

If you can't find kitten formula, goat's milk is a good substitute. They'll need a comfy box, with a heating pad (well wrapped in a towel, 2 layers) that stays on constantly. Since they are still a little small to regulate body temp, the box should be large enough them to crawl on and off of the heating pad. If they are not pottying on their own yet, you will need to gently pat their little genitals to stimulate pooping and peeing (O JOY O BLISS) until they are able to manage this on their own. If they haven't gone yet, DO THIS IMMEDIATELY! You do not want ruptured bowels or bladders!

I do this sort of thing (advising) about 5 hours a day. You can head over to thecatsite.com/ where you will find a WORLD of folks who can help you with this.

This evening there are cuddles on the sofa with lots of purring. Next to no spitting when you first approach them now too which is lovely to see.

So beautiful. Do you know the sexes op?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/11/2020 21:35

Ahhh bless them.

I have a shed too ( garage actually ) and there's a cit our in the door for our male cat to breeze in/out at his leisure . Cut big enough that he cannot get trapped by any of the other neighbourhood bully cats .

We put a cushion down , so often check for stray kitten litters , but none to date (I am sort of relieved , we have 2 cats to rule us already ) but I am PREPARED Wink

I once parked up to look into a carboard box left in the middle of a grass area ( why would someone leave a box there ? ) just in case there were animals in it (or evidence that there had been) but luckily it was completely empty .
I felt completely barmy but I couldn;t have driven by it .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/11/2020 21:36

cit our = cut out

Male Cat is a Houe Cat , he just likes his Shed too

Missmonkeypenny · 06/11/2020 21:42

Lagney as far as I can tell, it looks like one boy and two girls

Omg it's little face, those eyes 😻

CastleOfDoom · 06/11/2020 21:44

Have you checked again tonight to see if the food's gone or for any floury footprints?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/11/2020 22:15

You know you want to keep them.......this is what you could have in a year or so ...

This is my recent shed-born acquisition! Mum abandoned them. I hope yours stay well and mum returns.

The mum will probably be back and be very distressed.

Bubbles90 · 07/11/2020 00:24

This happened to my sister in September. Stray cat brought her 5 kittens into her garage over a period of 3 hours. She was struggling to feed them and the weather had turned. The kittens were ill and covered in ringworm. They would have died had the mother not taken them to my sister. You shouldn't have touched the kittens but kept a watchful eye on them, looking out for the mother's return. The mother was either still bringing the rest of her litter across or she was hunting. Now that you've touched the kittens she will probably reject them. They look about three weeks old. They still have blue eyes, eye colour starts to change at 4 weeks.

grannieali · 07/11/2020 00:33

Just remember that keeping one cat is an expensive business, let alone two. Good qualty food will probably cost £30.00 each a month, add insurance because of astronomical vets' bills, also, neutering or spaying and tracking device, health checks and injections and de-fleaing regularly. After this, healthy cats will be fine for a good many years, barring accidents, but after about ten, insurers will be very relucant to take you on.

CastleOfDoom · 07/11/2020 00:33

Now that you've touched the kittens she will probably reject them.

That's not true.
But mum has not been back anyway.

MayDayHelp · 07/11/2020 04:16

OMG 😍 well done OP, they are very lucky you found them. Just so happens we are in the market for a kitten so I’d be happy to have one when the time comes (haven’t read the whole thread so am probably millionth in the queue but just putting it out there).

footprintsintheslow · 07/11/2020 05:35

Love this thread and they are very lucky to have been found by you. Flour was a great idea to see if anyone returns.

Could you post on the local Facebook page to see if anyone has lost a pregnant cat? Maybe it's a local pet cat who has just chosen your shed as their maternity unit?

Do people go and remove random dead cats from roads? Sounds like its someone's cat on the road rather than a stray.

If my cat had been run over I'd be consoled a little to know the kittens were safe and I'd probably want them back. Could you part with them now?

In any case well done as you sounds like you have your hands full with baby as it is.

Nineteenfiddlytree · 07/11/2020 05:36

OP, reading this thread is so heartwarming - and a little heartbreaking too, if the black cat was mummy cat - but those little kitties are so fortunate to have entered into your life.

It is good to be reminded of all the kindness that exists in the world. Flowers

Ddot · 07/11/2020 06:03

Council do remove road kill, you could ring to check if any cats been hit. It's too cold for them without mam for days so you did the right thing. It's a difficult decision, to help or not. Looked at the photos, your doing fine xxxx

Ddot · 07/11/2020 06:30

Sexing kittens, look under tail, if you cant see anything probably girl, if it looks like girly bits it's a boy. Not always fool prof, sometimes boys bits inside.

MistyMinge2 · 07/11/2020 06:41

I suspect the run over cat you saw was mum. I think you'd have seen some sign of her now if it wasn't.

Thank goodness you found them. They're adorable!

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 07/11/2020 06:50

Growing up on a farm we occasionally found stray litters of kittens. We rehomed and kept more than a few ourselves. Such a treasure find. I also found one of my cats in our garage all by herself. She such a lovely cat now. Enjoy them for the few weeks you have them x

ClaireP20 · 07/11/2020 06:54

@HollyandIvyandallthingsYule

Mum could be out hunting so I’d keep an eye out in case she comes back.

Look at those beautiful blue eyes!

True, if you've ever heard that miaow a cat gives when looking for her babies, heartbreaking. The reason I would only get a kitten from a rescue place.
ClaireP20 · 07/11/2020 06:57

And good luck OP! Give them a cuddle from me! X

Anyway, back to this lovely thread, yet again.

Hope the kittens are well this morning! You are so lucky to have had lots of kitten snuggles yesterday.
