Rural area, mum nowhere to be seen, very cold and shivering so have bought them in to warm up.

Now what?!

Soppy dh here too. Used to go out past midnight driving round looking for him then tell the neighbours “I have to, she loves that cat” 🙄.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/11/2020 14:40

Poor mum cat though, I don’t think they’d leave a litter alone like that all this time.

artisanparsnips · 06/11/2020 14:43

We fostered four black kittens and yes, they are grey and stripy when they are small. I learned the black cats are all striped tabbies, it's just that all their stripes are black, but they only go properly black later on.

No, pretty sure they come back every few hours Sad
MogHog · 06/11/2020 15:18

My black cat was quite striped under his fur when he was little..he is a great big black loon now but this was him as a kitten and you can see the markings

I agree, it is sad about mum but there has been no sign of her at all so i am wondering if she was the run over cat i saw. It's been moved so unable to check.

Sad Sad

But they are lucky - they’ve found a surrogate mummy and daddy to look after them. Flowers

TokyoSushi · 06/11/2020 16:07

Oh my, what a beautiful and also potentially very sad thread if that was their Mama. It sounds like you're doing an excellent job with them OP - they're very lucky to have you!

LagneyandCasey · 06/11/2020 16:08

Was the poor dead cat very near your house, op? If so I think that there's a strong chance it was mum. It's too much of a coincidence. Unless she has been frightened away by fireworks or other territorial cats in the area. I would still carry on with the flour and put out food for a few days just in case she does venture back.

I suppose you could try calling a few local vets to see if they had a cat taken in as that's generally where people take them to see if they're chipped. There's a chance they might remember if it looked like a nursing mum.

STINKERBELLS

Aww how lovely, know mice aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but they’re just little lives, making their living in the world,

The perfect sentiment , beautifully put Smile

Poppyismyfavourite · 06/11/2020 17:11

@LagneyandCasey when we were considering taking on the cat that my sister rescued when she moved abroad, DH was very non-committal, then when he first met her at my parents' house, he picked her up and she straight away gave his face the biggest nuzzle! He instantly fell in love and we've had her 4/5 years now I think!

We have wood mice living in the jasmine bush outside our front window. They scamper down and eat off the bird feeder, but only at the back where people can't see them (except us through the window)

We've resolved not to say a word, unless they get in NDN's porch roof. Then we will profess surprise and offer to move the feeder. Until then we will quietly enjoy their company in secret Grin

Blueberrycreampie · 06/11/2020 17:29

This happened to us but only one kittie and mum. However...she went on to have five more 6 months later. Cats Protection League were very helpful, and we ended up with mum, the original kitten and two others from the second litter. They were the only ones we managed to even slightly socialise. They all lived in our garage for months before we could get them rehoused. Happy days though!

lornski · 06/11/2020 17:37

Omg! If you are near me I’ll take them! Would love a wee bundle of fluff. My current bundle of fluff may take some persuading but she’d come round.

DeathMetalMum · 06/11/2020 17:39

Very cute. We had a litter of kittens in our back garden this time last year. I saw mum hop over the fence and didn't see her again. We left food out for them all and with the help of Cat Protection League we were able to catch five of the six (or more) kittens. They were a little older 5/6 weeks. We now have two of them, and mum visits the garden like she used to. CPL found and neutered her with the help of a neighbor.

Ha if that was to me that was 10 years ago, 😔
Grrrrdarling · 06/11/2020 17:42

How are they, & you, doing? I agree with another commenter saying they are about 6 weeks old. Proper cuties too Smile
Kitten food & milk should be enough to keep them fit & healthy from that age. Be glad they aren’t a few weeks old & you aren’t having to bottle feed them every few hours Grin

Stand down. 'Elderly Korean lady' is a classic thread from 2014: link. No racism involved.
trenchy24 · 06/11/2020 17:52

Ooh lucky. That’s how we got our cat. He was left in our shed years ago. Similar age I reckon. I fed him cat milk using a liquid medicine syringe to start with. He is absolutely massive now and extremely friendly and healthy.

Missmonkeypenny · 06/11/2020 18:00

Grrr they are being bottle fed and every 4 hours, vet family friend thinks between 3-4 weeks as teeth only just starting to poke through and no idea what to do with anything other than milk from a teat although one of them has started to lick it from a palm of a hand!

Anyway, back to this lovely thread...

Those little kittens are so lucky to be inside in the warmth right now. Bless their little furry socks.🥰 Hope they go from strength to strength.

I'm afraid I'm chuckling at the faux offence about the Korean lady . Someone hasn't been here very long have they ? 😂.

Go to Mumsnet classics love . Have a read . Nothing remotely offensive. Take a Valium .

whataballbag · 06/11/2020 18:23

Oh they're beautiful! I found 4 kittens in an empty house once (letting agent). It had been broken into a few times so guessing mamma had got in that way. They were under the kitchen units, was on my knees crawling through glass to get them.

Mamma cat was there too but sadly she had died there with them. RSPCA lady said she looked really malnourished and she must have died feeding her babies 😔 they were all healthy though and the RSPCA were fab. Was great to look on the website a few weeks later and see they'd all been adopted!
