ADs won't tut when you're stuck in a rut, we're all too busy pouring Amaretto in our porridge

Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

Also they have had covid tests. (these relatives) on way into the country. Not sure how accurate that is when traveling but hey ho.

AcornAutumn · 06/11/2020 10:23

@Orangeblossom7777

I'm going to leave it up to them, his family really.

Yes these neighbours are quite strange. I would never have thought people would do that but they seem to have a grudge against some other neighbours and that was part of it.

Luckily the police were sensible and said, no it is Ok to use the garden, they are apart etc and got a sign saying so.

So the police were AD and normal! Good to know.

That’s good to know

I did hear, from a friend, that most of the neighbours reporting had a history of being problematic.

Orangeblossom7777 · 06/11/2020 10:45

Yes, ours now have some mad mission to not have dogs in the garden- it stems from some kind if dispute about gardening. (feeling others are taking over the garden)

Just another way of getting at people they don't like, sadly..

Dogs in a communal garden?
AlwaysWinterNeverChristmas · 06/11/2020 11:13

Hello everyone!

I used to be a regular on the AD threads in the beginning but MN got a bit too insane for me, so I had to leave. I'm dipping my toe back in, just in this thread for now. So many names I don't recognise! It's good news because it means the tide is turning decisively.

This is a new name, by the way

Orangeblossom7777 · 06/11/2020 11:16

It's a rescue dog, very timid and can't be left inside apparently. Now there us a vote on dogs in the garden going on. As of we don't have enough without that as well...

Orangeblossom7777 · 06/11/2020 11:17

Hi again Always

Sonicthehedgehogg · 06/11/2020 11:18

I've namechanged so many times I've forgotten all of them

@Orangeblossom7777 We've has similar mini-conflicts here. I have an OC personality so reeeallly want to keep to all the rules, even if I don't agree with them. Which means I get internal AND external conflict Grin

AlwaysWinterNeverChristmas · 06/11/2020 11:23
@RobinHobb We are now entering Narnia. Where its always winter but never Christmas.
I have had this feeling since the beginning of October, hence my new name!

MissEWeatherwax · 06/11/2020 11:31

I love your username Always. Very appropriate. I don’t think masks work, the worst type of window dressing. I know(not friends) people who are now going into each other’s houses to drink. Plus I bet they aren’t staying apart. I’m just bitter because I stayed apart from my DP’s even though it was horrible. I just want to stamp my feet and scream. I just don’t want to. Like a toddler.
I am still meeting my friend for a walk around the local park. And it is allowed.

NothingIsWrong · 06/11/2020 12:03

My employer doesn't know if they are coming or going. Half of us have been told business as normal (as construction), but the bits I need to help me (like IT as I know fuck all about putting a new network in a building I'm replacing the roof on) have been told no site visits. Except I need them on site to help me!

DominaShantotto · 06/11/2020 12:23

DD2's teacher is now teaching full time in a face shield. I'm really pissed off as none of the other class teachers are and DD2 is now fucking terrified of the virus from the stuff being said in class... but I'm biting my tongue, chalking down that hopefully she'll get sick of it steaming up in a few days and calm down a bit.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 06/11/2020 12:39

I used to be a regular on the AD threads in the beginning but MN got a bit too insane for me, so I had to leave.

With out these threads I'd have left back in March/April.

Bonfire night went really well - so well me might do the same again mainly as all the big displays are a bit of a pain to get to and back from. Also it might suit the IL better, we haven't seen them since last December but who usually come over for bonfire night - as they are getting older and less eager to travel when they do come.

Orangeblossom7777 · 06/11/2020 12:41

I saw someone walking down the street in the rain in one of those the other day- as well as steaming it up it had rain running down as well- wondered how they could see Confused maybe is like a kind of face umbrella

AlwaysWinterNeverChristmas · 06/11/2020 12:59

I have enough problems wearing spectacles in the rain, I'm not adding a visor to the visibility issues.

All this is an accident waiting to happen

Curlygirl06 · 06/11/2020 13:05

Probably killed lots of people this morning, went into the garage to get a paper and forgot to put a mask on. I had it with me but in between keeping the pram moving (baby just dropping off to sleep) finding some money, checking how many people are in there etc I completely forgot. However, no one said anything and I would have put it straight on if they had, genuine mistake.

In other news, work was busier on Thursday than on Wednesday which was unexpected. Apparently Tuesday was mental, glad I wasn't working then. People are still being arseholes, 99% of people are lovely, I just seem to attract the idiots. Hey ho.

justasking111 · 06/11/2020 13:10

From a very young age we told our children some teachers are idiots but they are in charge so you have to suck it up roll your eyes silently and know that you will get another teacher next year. I think kids need to know there are idiots in every field of life but if they are higher up the food chain then be patient your turn will come.

justasking111 · 06/11/2020 13:12

An old friend at a school reunion tapped the retired headmaster on the shoulder and said hello sir, remember me, you said I would never amount to anything, well you were wrong. He went on to be a mega millionaire in marketing, business worldwide, a fab. yacht in the south of France and wherever the whim takes him.

Evenstar · 06/11/2020 13:13

I turned up a week early for an appointment this morning, really unlike me , but it was at the opticians inside our local shopping centre. They have closed the main entrances forcing you to walk on an uneven footpath through the service areas in an area which is unlit at night. Where is the thought for any elderly or disabled people who may well need to access Boots or the opticians?

I stayed in a hotel for my daughter’s wedding earlier in the week and the rear entrance was closed, which is right by an area badged as a Women’s Parking Area so that women travelling alone can get straight into the hotel.

I feel changes like this are making us all less safe to avoid the risk of an illness which probably is less dangerous to most of us than being forced into unlit areas with uneven paving. I also agree with PP that visors and masks may increase the risk of falls.

DominaShantotto · 06/11/2020 13:19

I also agree with PP that visors and masks may increase the risk of falls.

My mum had a really nasty fall on the way out the supermarket earlier this week (she's cut all her eyebrow and given herself a black eye where her glasses bashed into her face) - thinking about it now I bet she was still wearing a face mask and it's knocked her ability to see where she's putting her feet (she's not that long post-knee replacement and still has to regain the muscle memory to where she was) if the mask has ridden up slightly.

I found the Some Dogs Do book useful for those conversations when ours were younger and later years expecting them to always be polite got them through.

Though DD1 still mentions her teacher who tried to tell her castles were rarely built near rivers - I think DD1 gave a surprising amount of correct information in response to that - very politely.

Think we were also cursed when they did Roman food and gave tomatoes to the kids and got to hear why that was wrong.

TabbyStar · 06/11/2020 13:43

We went out for some illegal driving practice this morning, though I forgot it was illegal until I saw two police cars speeding towards us with lights flashing that jogged my memory! DD's driving lessons were delayed six months originally, now stopped again, and being able to drive is quite important to her in finding a suitable apprenticeship. We'll go out most days though now she can't do anything else. Other than shops and some cafes being shut there are few signs of lockdown here. We have some cases at our secondary school so many people calling for it to be completely closed, though the school is taking a measured approach and just isolating bubbles.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/11/2020 13:47

Hello all. Day one of citalopram here, feeling sick and having very unpleasant trips to the toilet (sorry) but I know it'll take a few days to settle. Urgh. Not helped by it being day two of period, which might explain the absolute emotional wreck of a person I was yesterday. Literally came on in a flood as I was on the phone to the gp yesterday. DH took yesterday off as an emergency day but he's working again today so am just going to have to battle through. Currently got DD in the bath so I can sit still and mumsnet while I watch her.

I definitely can't see as well in a mask - I really notice it in the playground at school pick up / drop off, my peripheral vision at toddler height is gone. Makes it much harder to watch for dd1 to come out and keep an eye on dd2 at the same time. Can easily imagine it causing more trips and falls this winter, especially in older people who have lost some of their mobility.

IwishIwasyoda · 06/11/2020 13:51

I nearly fell over in the school playground the first day they enforced make at pick up. I couldn't see a damn thing and there were loads of kids underfoot. Now I don't wear my glasses and rely on DS (6) to alert me to any hazards ... it's destroying my confidence ...

TabbyStar · 06/11/2020 13:54

I haven't mastered the mask and glasses thing still. People have lots of bright ideas, but none seem to work, though to be fair I haven't tried sticking it to my face or stuffing toilet paper in there Confused
