Welcome into another thread of alternative reality as we try to nagivate through the Coronacoaster of life.

We may be up, down, spinning around (generally in confusion at the next random edict drawn up on the back of a fag packet) but never sucking the joy out of life.

The on demand news from the BBC on Alexa made it sound like they were going to do some pretty heavy handed policing. It's scary. I do think things could quite easily tip over into civil unrest.

How about this little beauty, we saw it in ASDA today. You just reminded me of it.

DD asked if it was "Gay pride, or NHS?"

ASDA say it's NHS Envy

Is it just me or does the tide appear to be turning on some of the other threads as well? Posters trying to impose their version of the roolz appear to be getting a bit of a push back. It’s about bloody time.

Orangeblossom7777 · 05/11/2020 21:21

I saw one too (rainbow) on the BBC site and thought 'hmm' it's starting isn't it.

NannyGythaOgg · 05/11/2020 21:42

Passive aggressive rebellion is a very stereotypical British reaction - and it does work. If enough of us do it, it works very very well.

The only thing that is stopping it / has stopped it is 'fear'. The government, ably aided by the BBC and main stream media have fed us fear up fear upon fear for 8 months now.

the government couldn't do it alone - I know too many people who, although intelligent and who think it has been overegged are still scared. (Mostly comfortable pensioners who STILL think the BBC is impartial and to be trusted)

Hopefully, enough of the MSM has had it's eyes opened. Let's hope it continues, the rebellion continues to rise and we actually make a difference.

Non-mask wearer. An interesting character. Likely to be genuinely exempt. Possibly oblivious though.

It'll be different now the younger siblings are returning.

Thought everyone would enjoy this! Managed to get DD married just before lockdown hit and had a lovely day.

Today my husband and I have driven about 200 miles to transport a dog for an animal rescue I support, debated if this was an essential journey and decided it probably qualified under animal welfare. I was fully prepared to say to anyone who challenged us on the way back that we were going home as we had been told!

The tide is definitely turning. I feel very flat this week. I will never get the time back from the Boris press conference, what was the point.
It can’t sleep again, so on a herbal sleep aid, it isn’t working.
I’m definitely visiting The range/B&M/ home bargains/ Wilko. At weekend, I like to live dangerously. Saw on Facebook that the nearest M&S is open, everything not just food.

RobinHobb · 05/11/2020 22:10

@TabbyStar

The students have pulled the fences down in Manchester. Who wants to live surrounded by metal fences?
Excellent
WouldBeGood · 05/11/2020 22:33

I’ve just seen that. Good for them... what kind of world are we living in?

BogRollBOGOF · 05/11/2020 22:57

Love the movie poster Grin
M&S is essential. It doesn't exactly sell desirable, fun clothes, but pants, bras, pyjamas, school uniforms and jumpers are all essential. Apart from suits. So 2019 Wink
Good to hear the students are revolting too. That kind of revolting, not the other one.

Years ago, DH went to M&S in town to get a new suit for a wedding that weekend. Really helpful assistant. We travel 150 miles, sit down for the wedding breakfast and the Groom's uncle says, "nice suit, I sold it to you on Wednesday!" We'd been put on the same table because we live in the same area, but the couple never expected us to cross paths days earlier!

It is interesting how there is a million mask protest in London, students tearing down that bloody awful fencing in Manchester. I think perhaps that westminster looked at how Drakeford and Sturgeon have achieved compliance and thought oh we will do that now it worked for them. What has escaped them perhaps is that in Wales we are closer knit, ditto Scotland. We live near wide open spaces do not live cheek by jowl. Whereas the English are a much more diverse people not as parochial, there are so many people living in such close radius I think it is tougher to be locked down there. England has many more large cities than Scotland and Wales.

I do moan about Drakeford and welsh politics as others do about Sturgeon, I think we are better off in some ways though.

NannyGythaOgg · 05/11/2020 23:15

Brilliant. I sometimes think coincidences happen too often to be coincidences. Maybe we are a Sims game from another planet

AcornAutumn · 05/11/2020 23:36

@MercyBooth

Mask wearing has dropped (according to shop workers) a good 25% overnight

Due to anger im willing to bet.

I think people are realising that compliance is going to lead to more extreme measures.
MercyBooth · 05/11/2020 23:42

Good point @AcornAutumn

Ive just seen loads of pics on Twitter from Manchester Uni What the fuck did the university think they were playing at.

It’s terrifying how quickly tyranny sets in. I’ve seen the uni apology - they claim they were trying to protect students in response to concerns from dementors. I’m not sure I believe it. Even if a handful of students asked for more measures to “protect” them, why the rush to do something so awful?

Sir Charles Walker gave a good speech before the parliamentary vote - here’s the really important bit. I think he’s really hit the nail on the head.

Was it not Manchester that put in private security and called in the police to keep the students locked up?

People wont keep locking down so private companies can continue to profit and not deliver, Because THAT is what has caused this second lockdown.

Interesting you can now be a political dissident in the UK! If the UK are arresting protesters they are going to have a much harder time negotiating for the return of UK citizens who have been locked up abroad for protesting in other countries.

TabbyStar · 06/11/2020 06:09

It was Manchester Met, this is Uni of (as DD says!) There has been a lot of partying in the halls, but pretty much everyone had CV or was isolated for a couple of weeks at the beginning of the term, it would be surprising if there was anyone left with no immunity! There is a bit of venturing out to Sainsbury's and some of the local takeaways, but certainly the students who are doing lectures online seem fairly well confined to the campus.
