So a lot of people have voted for trump even though "everyone" claims to hate him
Millions vote for the torys although "everyone" claims to hate them

So purely hypothetical, if tomorrow morning a National paper published how you voted in every election, would it cause you embarrassment/ trouble

I know some people jn my family would hate how I have voted in some elections but I could back up my stance.

Obviously this is not about any vote/election in particular.

No I wouldn't be embarrassed

Brumcherub · 04/11/2020 08:39

I would not be embarrassed.

Violetparis · 04/11/2020 08:39

No, I'm happy with my choices.

Nope. I am very open about my politics 😁

Stripyhoglets1 · 04/11/2020 08:40

No I wouldn't be embarrassed but I've never enabled this tory shit show!

blueangel19 · 04/11/2020 08:57

No, I am out and proud with my choices.

AcornAutumn · 04/11/2020 08:58

It wouldn’t cause any trouble personally but sad to say, professionally, it might.

Noitjustwontdo · 04/11/2020 09:11

No, I’m open about my political opinions.

missperegrinespeculiar · 04/11/2020 09:12

nope, I am not an hypocrite, if I vote for somebody I admit to it and defend my position!

LedaandtheSwan · 04/11/2020 09:14

I'd be a bit embarrassed. I voted for BoJo in the London Elections. He near bankrupted the city. Blush

Parkandride · 04/11/2020 09:14

Wouldn't bother me, but its been different in every general election so I don't look very decisive, I guess I'm a floating voter

zaffa · 04/11/2020 09:16

I wouldn't be embarrassed no, I openly admit I was once a Tory voter when I was much younger and very ill informed. Now I'm older and can see the extremely privileged position I've grown up in, I am very open about my support for Corbyn and a better future for everyone, not just those of us who have money. I'll continue to support Labour, but I do feel like they've brought in someone pretty vanilla to get the job done and win as many votes as possible, I don't think their policies will go nearly far enough at the next election but it's always going to be better than what we have now.

AcornAutumn · 04/11/2020 09:16

I don’t think keeping a vote private is hypocritical.

I’ve voted Labour and Conservative in my life. My mum has voted
Lib Dem too. Perhaps if I reach her age I’ll have all three on the list too.

I think it’s a great shame when workplaces make toxic issues out of politics. And it’s more of the workplace straying into personal life, which I think is wrong.

Don’t know if any party talks about that.

thelonggame · 04/11/2020 09:19

not at all embarrassed no

MacDuffsMuff · 04/11/2020 09:21

Only once, when I was on the fence many many years ago, did I make a decision that I regret. I'm not embarrassed by it though, it made sense at the time.

SimonJT · 04/11/2020 09:22

I don’t have much voting history (fairly newly a british citizen), but no, I wouldn’t have a problem if my voting history was published.

AriettyHomily · 04/11/2020 09:24

No. I would do the same again.

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2020 09:25

It would be difficult for me as a no voter in the Scottish independence referendum. My family would be horrified and confused. To them, voting no is the same as Americans voting for Trump.

It wasn't until that referendum that I fully appreciated the meaning and value of confidential voting. Without it we're fucked, despite people calling for transparency after every vote that disgusts them.

Hickorydickoryspock · 04/11/2020 09:27

Yes because once I voted lib dem because my boyfriend convinced me too... I was 19 tho. But I've regretted it ever since.
Every other time I've voted it was Labour apart from local elections where I've voted a mixture of Labour and Green dependant on individual candidates.

BlueStarRose · 04/11/2020 09:28

I wouldn't be, but as another poster said thank goodness for anonymous voting. The vitriol that has descended into politics is scary. I don't remember it being like this when I started voting 20 years ago.

MorrisZapp · 04/11/2020 09:30

I voted Labour in my very first election many moons ago despite my BF being passionately SNP. In the end I lied for an easy life and pretended I'd voted SNP too, it wasn't worth the argument.

If nothing else, couples must be able to vote differently and have the protection of anonymity.

Baaaahhhhh · 04/11/2020 09:33

I've voted for everyone in the past, so I wouldn't care tbh. My first ever vote was for Thatcher, then Blair, then Cameron, and Johnson. Somewhere in the middle I voted Lib Dem, our local area was Lib Dem for a couple of elections. Typical floating voter.

frosted232 · 04/11/2020 09:34

No I wouldn't be embarrassed. I've no loyalty to any particular party and voted for different ones over the years. People won't reveal their true voting intentions because they get shot down in flames and ridiculed by certain people for daring to have a different opinion. Where I live it's blasphemy if you mention you are thinking about voting for anyone apart from Labour so people tend not to mention it, the silent majority win every time.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/11/2020 09:36

I'm a floating voter and vote according to relevant policy (local, general, Europe) for that election.

I've gone to the polling booth where general and council elections are on at the same time and voted for two seperate parties.

I find it more strange that people will over a lifetime vote tribally for one party without deviating.

buttonmoonb4tea · 04/11/2020 09:37

No I would not be ashamed or embarrassed.

I'm unapologetic Labour voter. If I was really not happy with their policies I would look at voting for another party but never vote Tory.

I've first hand experience on a personal and professional level of their cruel policies and with their handling of coronavirus, I'll never vote for them.
