Would a barking dog next door put you off buying a house?

Yes

FingersXrossed · 03/11/2020 22:34

That should say next door to a house we went to view! The dog wasn't living in the house we viewed! Blush

EL8888 · 03/11/2020 22:36

Yep. It’s infuriating. Next door but 2’s dog does it and l want to murder it. Despite being an animal lover. But they are quite anti-social in other ways including 6 cars on a terraced road, with no driveways

Yes.
I was really worried our house wouldn't sell as next door's five constantly yapping dogs and their constant bellowing at said dogs to "dooo a pooooo" or "shaddddaaaappp" not to mention their seven caged cats, fourteen hutches for small animals, son's heavy metal band in the cellar aaaaand the 5000 blue fairy lights they put up in the backyard, were a big part of the reason we wanted to move.
As luck would have it our buyers also had several dogs as well as six kids and the husband is a DJ. So they all happily make a great big old racket together 👌

Wolf next door to us. Deep rumbling bark every time I go out the door. Neighbour apologises but it still happens every single time.

Gifgif · 03/11/2020 22:49

Depends how much they barked. It would be less likely to be burgled.

Without a doubt. We moved house to get away from a neighbours awful barking dog. She would put it in the garden all day everyday and the noise was awful.

ginghamstarfish · 03/11/2020 22:54

Yes. Because we had one too many neighbours like that, we now live in a house with no neighbours at all.

crimsonclover · 03/11/2020 23:05

It depends on the dog - I'm surrounded by neighbours with dogs but they aren't problematic. They're mostly indoors though. If I knew the dog was outdoors most of the day barking - absolutely.

namechangeforfriday · 03/11/2020 23:13

Depends on the circumstances. Dogs do bark, so hearing a bit of barking while viewing wouldn’t put me off. If the dog was chained up in the garden alone and barking then yes (and I’d also report to the RSPCA). I have a dog so would actually like to live near other dogs so he can get used to them being around (he is a barker if he sees other dogs) and fellow dog people are usually friendly

alexdgr8 · 03/11/2020 23:15

Yes. of course. do you even need to ask.

fastandthecurious · 03/11/2020 23:21

Yes. We have a neighbour who's poor dog is outside all day every day, it barks at literally everything and everyone. It's a bloody nightmare as it frightens the life out of DS sometimes and has been known to wake him in the summer if windows are open. It's not fun to live with really.

PickAChew · 03/11/2020 23:21

Hell, yes.

nosswith · 04/11/2020 06:59

Yes it would.

cheeseychovolate · 04/11/2020 07:06

Yes

Bumpinthenight · 04/11/2020 07:06

Yes. I hate going to a friend's house for a cuppa due to her yappy dog. I would not cope if it lived next door to me.

Next door's dog barks when she is let out in the morning. 6am wake up calls everyday are wearing very thin...

Deathraystare · 04/11/2020 07:09

Don't be silly. The exact opposite. No one takes any notice of a constantly barking dog. Burglars staking out the neighbourhood will realise it barks all the time. Even if neighbours saw the place being burgled they would probably think "Serves 'em right and please take the dog!".

I certainly wouldn't want to listen to a barking dog or worse one of those shivery yapping type dogs all day.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 04/11/2020 07:09

Even as a dog lover yes. My dog is daft and will woof running into the garden. Let the squirrels know she's about 🙄
Then happily sniffs and does what dog do.
She will woof if NDN go into garden , they say hello to her she shuts up.
Very good guard dog.
Doesn't bark when left alone - reports off NDN.

But Christ NDN have a small thing that yaps continuously. That much so they apologise all the time . The fact that I have never seen them take it for a walk probably doesn't help. Whole new thread.

Lots of dogs now round our way . When 1 starts the lot of them join in. Bit annoying at 10pm , with my dog looking at me through 1 eye snorting that she's been disturbed

gabsdot45 · 04/11/2020 07:24

Our ndn had a very loud dog when we moved in. He would bark when I opened the back bedroom curtains and when we were in the back he would jump up to look over the fence. The day we moved in they apologised in advance for the barking.

He died eventually and then they got another dog who was also pretty loud.
We've lived next door for 24 years now. It hasn't been a big problem.
It's not necessarily a deal breaker.

BeakyWinder · 04/11/2020 07:30

Deal breaker for me. I had a yappy dog one side and two kids under 2 on the other it wad hell. I could hear everything. I moved recently and my mental health is improving so much, it was low level disruption and sleep deprivation for years.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 04/11/2020 07:32

Yes. Completely anti-social and drives me nuts.

DefinitelyPossiblyMaybe · 04/11/2020 07:34

Yes it would put me off. But I have lived in 3 separate houses where a dog barking nearby has become a nuisance and I have complained each time and the barking largely stopped. First time it was a yappy jack russell that yapped none stop. One day I snapped as it kept waking my DD, so I shouted over the fence to them to make it stop. Weirdly never heard it again. Second one a young couple built a run outside for their young labrador that barked all day. Complained, largely stopped but then got worse, complained again, largely stopped. This house a dog in the street behind (garden backs onto ours) barked all evening every evening. I went round to complain and noticed the houses either side were up for sale (wonder why?). The owners seemed very surprised and denied it was their dog, but it worked and it rarely barks now.
Dog owners take note (and I am a dog owner) if you have a dog that barks a lot, your neighbours hate you!!
